Welcome back to the on the boardpodcast. This is another episode of my Euro Two Thousand and twenty preview andwe are here again today to discuss, firstly, group see and secondly groupD. So by now you would know whether I'm doing it in group bygroup episodes or two groups at a time. At this stage probably going to betwo, but we'll see how I go. All Right, group CEEis an interesting one. No real title contenders, you'd have to say,out of this lot, but three really good teams, and why not so? But good to see North Acedonia in this competition. I believe it's theirfirst one. Believe them in Finland are in their first one. Could be. Could be mistaken there, but I think they are and they're in theirfirst major tournament. Austria. They're pretty...

...solid team, got a few goodplayers, not not a powerhouse or anything. Netherlands were in really, really goodform and then Ronald Kerman had to go to Barcelona. Obviously they werein they were sinking ships, so they had to bring someone back from theyou know, the glory days of bars or so he went there. Sincesigning the ball it's really taken a term for the worse and then Ukraine arereally promising side with a lot of good young players but aren't yet proven onthe big stage. Right more, a little bit more in depth now Austriawill be the first team will chat about. Across the last ten games they hadseventeen points. So I probably should introduce this like I did the firstepisode, because not everyone's going to be watching every episode, but I'll belooking at there, for me, the last ten competitive matches, so notfriendlies. Also look at their last four big tournaments and I'll discuss their keyplayers. So they've picked up seventeen points from their last competitive ten matches.had a fairly like just an average strength...

...of schedule. They've only scored fourteengoals and conceded fourteen, though, so seventeen points is pretty handy. Butwhen you see that goal difference, that doesn't strike me with any sort ofconfidence of how they'll go. They're not yet proven at a big tournament. And reason with this team two thousand and sixteen euros. They didn't get outof the group stage. Haven't qualified for you the last two World Cups orthe two thousand and twelve euros. Looking at their team in terms of keyplayers from the club season this year. There's not really anyone that's had areally good year, to be honest. They've got a lot of good defensiveplayers. So Martin Hinterregar. He was in the top five for recovery. So I believe coveries are like tackles, interceptions and blocks. Potentially. Icould be wrong with that. It's basically just how many times you get theball back. But he's right up there with that German Bundes League of centerback and he's also a bit of a...

...powerhouse in the box in terms ofheading. So here's one of the key players I would highlight. Not Quitesure how they're going to line up, but Stefan Il sunk up as well. He measures very highly in that status days, Gore and drug of it. So Three Pretty Handy Center backs. Not sure which of the two they'llgo with. Other players to note floor and Grillach. I believe he's stillat Hoffenheim. I think the cine midfielder. He is a very good ball progressorloves dribbling. has a very, very high dribble percentage. So helikes to just breeze pass, basically brief passed opposition midfielders and then obviously thestyle of traction is David Alaba not actually sure what position is going to beplaying, to be honest, of seeing him picked it set cdm with he'sobviously played most of his career at left back. Played a bit of centerback. In the warm up friendly is he's been playing like the left wingand Cam so really have no idea where...

...he's going to be playing, buthe's going to be playing a pivoted role wherever he is. For Bayern Munichthis year he was in the top twenty of your it's Big Five Leagues interms of passes into the final third, so very good ball progressor when hehas the ballad his feet. He's obviously moving to around Madrud as of nextseason, so it's going to be why I guess he's got his big move. So there's not that much motivation. But you know, I'm sure alot of Real Madrid will fans will be keeping a close eye on his tournament. He was in the team the season for the budness league, as wasMarcel Sa Bitso, who's probably their main creative powerhouse. He was really, really good in the nineteen twenty campaign. Maybe not as dominant this year, but he loves the goal, loves to keep past. Very, very goodplayer for Leipzig. So here's another one to watch. So yeah, soubetsare an Alaber. The names everyone knows and they've also got pretty good centerback pairing, W whether it be hinteregga...

...and drag a bitch or Hinto Regaand Il sunker. So we'll find out more about that then. The favoriteof this group would have to be the Netherlands. They've picked up twenty pointsin their last ten competitive games. They've had a very easy schedule, however. Goal difference is good. They've scored twenty three, conceded eight. Haven'tqualified for the last two big tournaments and, as I'm sure of you know,Virgil Van Dyke will not be playing in the two thousand and twenty euros. Well, two thousand and twenty one and so confusing. But yeah,so that's a huge out, as it was for Liverpool all season pretty much. And I have to say I think if this tournament happened in two thousandand nineteen, like early two thousand and nineteen, I think Netherlands would havebeen right up there. Was One of the biggest dark horses and even oneof the favorites, because they are in is scintillating form, especially in thenation's league. They were getting big upset victories over some of the biggest namesin the world and then all of a sudden a few of their players havelost form. But, more importantly,...

...as I mentioned earlier, Kerman wentto Barsa and they bought into Boor who look how I had to say like, I don't know he's extensive manager or history, but as I'm sure alot of you and me I've only seen his crystal palace spell, where Ithink he lasted like forty days, and now I've seen what he's done tothis Netherlands team since taking over. So yeah, it doesn't fill me withany sort of confidence. They keep player. They're almost a one man team attimes, and it is Memphis to pie as Leon is as well. He's just an absolute star wherever he goes right up there in terms of goalinvolved expected goal involvement. So expect to goals plus is expected assist. Hesits thirteen in Europe's Big Five Leagues. Up there in shots on target perninety, which is pretty impressive considering he starting out and out striker he's alsopretty high in the key past start, measuring in the top twenty four thatand he is also in the top twenty four shot creating actions per ninety. So he's an all our player us at all creates finishes. He's basically goingto be the one man show up in...

...the attacking depths for Netherlands. Thatthe their have some informed players like root, vegue, horse and stuff like that. Genie y now them obviously similar boat to David Alaba, fridge andthis summer and he moved. Well, I don't know if it's confirm.I'm pretty sure it's confirmed. He's moved to Barcelona, but everyone knows it'sgoing to happen. So he's not in the greatest of didn't have the greatestseasons for Liverpool, nothing like his nineteen twenty or eighteen nineteen campaigns, butwhen he plays for Netherlands he seems to go to a new level. I'vegot Frankie Deong, obviously very, very talented player. We all saw howgood you was in that I axe run. And then they've got the likes ofdaily blend, Dabby class and who are just solid professional you know you'regoing to get when they turn up. So they've got some really good players. Denzil dumb freeze as well, had a really good season, so they'vegot some talented players. I don't know how high their ceiling is, tobe honest. I think teams like Italy...

...and such have a lot more potentialto go on a huge run in this tournament. But yeah, I wouldn'tright off the Netherlands. I never would. Then north Maceadaronia. Eighteen points fromthe last ten games. However, out of their last ten they haveeasily had the easiest schedule of the lot. Their average opponent fee for ranking isninety six. So yeah, they're not being tested against many good sides. Goals scored. Nineteen goals against thirteen. So not the worst, but you'd, if you're a team coming into the euro's open to a perform againstteams at that low rank. You'd be hoping to kind of be dominating them, if you know what I mean. So with the greatest respect, I'mnot expecting too much of Macedonia. The only players I really know is Goreand pendev. He's still magically playing in as Jan Ali Oski. The actuallyreally rate them. Every time I've watched Aliosky even in the championship days.Always thought he was a really, really dangerous player. Now he's kind ofsettled from a winger to a left back,...

...but sure he'll be in a bitmore aggressive role for North Macedonia, so will be interesting to see howhe goes on the big stage. And Yeah, it'll be that these teamsare beatable. For North Acedonia, that it's not like you're in the groupof death with France, Germany and Portugal. There they are beatble sides. SoI'll be interesting to see if they can steal a point here or there. And then finally, they've got Ukraine, who a lot of people are sayingyou're a big dark horse, but statistically it's tough to get behind that. They've only picked up thirteen points their last ten games. However, theyhave, on average, had the toughest schedule behind Germany. So Germany hasgot the hard schedule in their last ten. And then it's Ukraine second, sothey had really, really tough driving. It was in the nation's league, played some of the world's best teams and they struggled, let's be real. So they scored eleven goal. I think they had an upset victory ever. France, maybe one, so I could be getting confused with Turkey, but they scored eleven goals in those ten...

...games conceded sixteen, so one ofthe worst goal differences we've seen so far in the euro last two years theyhaven't got out of the group stage and they haven't qualified for either the lasttwo World Cups. So it's not that promising for Ukraine when you look atstats, but when you look at the team on paper and how they performfor club, that's where the hope comes from. So they're may bans,Roman Malinowsky. I'm going to go with plays at Alant for Atalanta attacking midfieldercan play wing. He's sixteen in terms of expected goal involvements, second interms of key passes per ninety across Europe, right up there in our passes intothe box, right up there and shot creating actions. Just an allround jet and he's clearly going to be a key to Ukrane success. Someof their other good players. I think there's a youngster called young cove orsomething. He plays somewhat of a right wing camposition. I remember he wasreally good in a couple of the nation's...

...league games. They've also got Yarram, Chook up striker, and Cinchenko, whoever knows from his man city fame. So they do have some really, really good players. Ukraine a lotof young guns, so it's not we're not sure how they're going to performon the big stage, but definitely the potential is there. Also Andrea Yamba, Lanko overrun, knows from his West Ham stint. So yeah, thisis probably one of the Times I said Group A was tough to predict, for that was more in terms of second place. This one's tough to predicktright through one hundred and twenty three. With the greatest respect, I thinkeveryone would agree that North Macedonia most likely to come forth. So the waywe're going to do it our prediction, like we have in the last twogroups, we're going to go on the match predictor and see what that givesus. So Austria, North Macedonia. Look, I don't see how Massdoniascoring too many goals. I know we've seen a lot of Cinderella stories inthese international tournaments, especially as of late, but I'm not going to be thebrave one who predicts it. I'll...

...leave that to you guys at home. So I'm going to say, Jeez, Austria is stats are not that good. The in saying that, but I will give Austria the double.I'll say one neil. I don't think it's going to be a very goodgame. I'll say both teams just eas into the tournament, Netherlands, Ukraine. This could be an early decider for the first place in terms of thegroup. Hosting this group we will have the Netherlands have three of their gamesin Amsterdam. I know that much. In terms of who has the othertwo, it is not being hosted at one of the teams. It's beinghosted in Romania. So Netherlands definitely have the huge home advantage there and Ithink that's going to play a big factor. I want to get behind Ukraine. They have been tough, trialed and tested against some of the best teamsin the world in the last three years, but they haven't had the greatest successagainst them. So I will say Netherlands or. But under the warthey have not been good. They I'm...

...going to say the home crowd hasit, as is say, and I'm going to say one neal. Orare moving into the match day to so not the most exciting, but youknow, they might start conservative into the tournament. Ukraine, North Macedonia.I'm going to say Ukrame at the bounce back victory over north Macedonia, threenil. Sorry North Macedonian fans, and then the Dutch Austrian game. Onceagain, not that confident in Austria, all Netherlands, but I'm just goingto say the home crowd will get let's go to one to the Netherlands, because why not conquer one deal every game? And then that's day three. Wehave Ukraine versus Austria. I think where I'm sitting right now, thiswill be a battle for second place. Ukraine, Austria. Austria I havemore faith in just as a solid team. Ukraine, I believe, have ahighest ceiling. So by this stage of the tournament I'm going to backthat. There you know, the youthful exuberance is going to come into playand I'm going to say as Ukraine beat...

...ostre in a thrill at three,to Netherlands Macedonia, I will say the Netherlands turn it on for and willgive that North Macedonia goal, because why not? So I'll tell you thatup and get back to you of what that means the table will be.Interestingly, I have not gone with any drawers in this group, which isvery unlikely, but why not? I've gone with the home side, theNetherlands, nine points. I know they're not in great form. Do boresare very questionable coach, but I think on paper they still have the strongestside out of this group and I think the home crowd advantage will play abig part as if you are a fan of other sports such as cycling andFone, you will see how loyal and hectic Dutch fans can be. Youwe know they get behind Max vistappen and then they just crowd some of thesome of the TURNF for got what they call hairpins in the Tour de France. I'll go Ukraine, six points. I just like to buy into theirnarrative if the potential they've got of their young players. Haven't quite seen itagainst some of the be best in the world recently. But I don't trustAustria that much, to be honest.

They're just got a lot of solidclub players who I don't know if that cuts the mustard at this level. So I'm going that Ukraine six points astro three, a massive only zero atthe moment. Austria will be going through to the round of sixteen, however, as one of the better third place teams, but I'll get back tothat in the knockout preview.
