ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Won Ata evizode forty one of the Honobllepocast as you've just heard, or seen, depending on what you're, watching orlisting on once again joined by Christian pilche welcome night thanks,O yeahpretty. Well, thank you M Domyalook, red back from a scateboard and usuallyescateboard. Usually when I skateboard 'cause, like the wind Um, I usuallycome home looking like I'm just just watch Titani and I've been crime for three hours or something, butI look sexyou Magt Cheeseman! Stop is yes. I likewe to the Ellawa well today wasactually meant to be n, fl fancy episode, but unfortunately the thirdmember of the three men band pulled out. He got the lake poll up to work, whichis obviously a lot more important than this 'cause money actually noters. So we've postponed that to nextSaturdays episode. So if you really workcame for that episode, unfortunately, you're Gonta have to just hang on sit on your hands for aweek and wait for that one, but want to join us today. We're going to bechanned about cricket once again, the WOSDORN trophy, so theEnglamers Westernhes test series and yeah we're just ging o talk about Thaut, pretty much nothing else to chat about in terms of cricket. There's no muchelse going on apot from the old threa tain criket, but wasn't actually that interesting, really jus s three Gro upplys nocking a...

Bron basily Um. Did you actually hear that they'rechanging the name of the wisdon trophy to the Richards? Both Hem truphy did not hear that. But I write a lot. This is the last year the wesentraryfew will be m awarded to the winner of theNgwesternes testmatch from now, and it's going to be the Richn, both emtrophy so al right that change there's going to become a time where everytrophy is named about two players and thereis going to be like wait. What happens to like this generation'cause? It's like. We can't just pick out the old peopleno on the tribe, noRani, an every fifty yeah, its actually a hat point. So letsust quickly reviewthe last test match, so England ended up winning by on hundred and thirteenruns, but- and there was a day reined out. So it was a pretty comprehensivewind, but you do need a bit of context. The westernes were about an hour offholding on for a drawer, so it was pretty tigly contested despite whatthat schoollan does suggest, but it has to be said: ingand word domine prettymuch every every minute of that test. Um really set it up: WITHTHAT arpeingmeanings at four hundred and sixty nine rouns and that huge ponishit betweenthe fellows sibly and starts what was that Poni Shi eighty one to threehundred and forty one cuers lodge actually yeah. That's two hundred andsixty pretty quick, math sad boys Um. So that's pretty unusual for Englandand something that've been lacking over the last Walffar so long like withoutsuch an issue with people getting stuck between thirty and like sixty, so itwas good to Um, say too, the lins really go on with it and although theydid get criticized in particular sibly for their slow scoring rigte Um. Nowyou look back at back at it, ofter the...

...match and England's one by O hundredand twenty runs, and you can really put it down to that parmship. So I thinkthe people criticizing that should shut up michelholding included Um. I wasn'tcopin that actually wasn't really cauping it from the commentators.'cause like fair enough in the moment, saying hat when you're dayfive and youliget realized that that enings has set off the test match. It's like like whatmichaelholding was saying was maybe when he got to a hundred, he shouldhave started, accelerating, which I I'd get the but um the Peopler who justsang in Generaly, botto slowlike, just deal with it and like Marcoholding, wassaying the from a hundred on Wi who's, justselfish. What what do you think of that call yeahobviously? Obviously it was agreat innings. I mean since O, since Crook, we've had a bit of a gap withour opners and it's good to see that we've got one that can finally buckledown and an tovend yeahyeah exactly and you love those sort of pies. Don't youat Yourand Yourself? WHY DO NOCKO? It's insane mental strength to like, although people would be more impressed by somen, batting, faster Sullon whosplague cricket you as well, even though you haven't played for like six orseven years, you know Um it's actually tougher to bout slowerthan fast, because I fas you to start it's exciting for yourself, where, whenyou get slow, it's like insane patience insane mental toughness, irr an you'got and you've got fieldas sledgeing Yo ar saying, like ah falling behind therun right here, be just Goinna Goin to ignore all that yeah andcommentatd. You got like he'srably come home. I don't know day to of the Tesane's read the papers getting wipped offis go hundred and pwenty line. Youactually have to cof that stuff so yeah. I really do respect it, but yet wwereyou impressed happy overall with the wind or yeah. Well,...

...obviously, it was an England clinic therain. The rain almost got the drawer for the windies, but ere was a one oneway one way: Stra enti match engglan dominated and it was minely Ben starks. But yes, Sebley sibliznings was very good as well. It wasalad, but he battered for like forou hundred nNinety Bulls and then the fairest ball. He tried to tea off. He got out on, butyes he's clearly not that sort of playalso yeah um n yeah. That waspretty much. No one else really made runs Jos Pallo made like a junk time.Forty at the end, a few of the bolls pitched in Rost and chase took firefor prettygoodait, and then the Westindews came out not a bad total of two hundred andeighty seven. In the first test it would have been a good title, but justcompared to that huge England, first inings kindfst paled in comparison,Brathwade, andshimabrooks and Rostand Chash, all with half centuries, and yetthat's just the difference between the two sides in that test. Um, none ofthose tree really went on with it score of bing hundred like stokes and siblydid Um, and then that moved us into the Englandsecondings, where stokes decided to open himself R. I don't know if it wasthe curchous decision or his owned, but on't know he was in captain root. Sorry, so he came out smack. Seventy eight orfifty seven, probably the most entertaining contradictory to what I as sayingbefore. I love my Slo Batsman, but that air test cricket was pretty prettysilly Um, just every bowlwwoe get around or part um or even croly, andthen stoks. We just have a crack, so that was good fun di sel Ti shot earlyon the fifth morning. I think it was holder, Al Rich and he just danced himand smacked him. A hundred maters yegsome of the showaer Weinsane, likehe's just so good he's, Ahotin, yeah...

...and then so they put on a e hundred andtwenty nine declared stokes. Probably although at once again he told thecaptain but probably robbed Ove ton there. It was good corn, actually ftwenty, twoshort of, but which would have een pretty insane. He could have got it inlike three or four overs. Archiden N hurts the stauts of the Westernnewsbowls, this innexo all economy rates over six UM game. I Rot Licin, afte Bek up two wickets and then on the final. Well, the final two sessions anda half England skiddled them for a hundred andninety eight e, just just couldn't hang on for the draw blackboardand Brooks, did their best put on a really good Patship, I think, of over a hundred, but no one else went with them hold our tried for thirty five, but Um yeah. There was just no one else, really chipped in dowitwent cheaply, chase went cheaply and the top three or went pretty easily sobig wind for England and yeah. It really just sets up this third test. Iwas getting a bit worried. Dn't want it to be adrawl, because that means wewould have been stuck with the whole ashes thing where n they retain butlike they could lose a series or well draw the series. So I didn't want that happen. So I'm Kindo, happy n one, and that really sets up this thd test as iar saying, but interms of Ben Stokes. He one man of the match we both gave inour. We did our votes again. We both gave our five vots, also just cuickally in terms of thosevotes, rust and chase got four from me. Three from you, civily got four fromyou three from me and Shimabrooks. Both got two broad Gol one. So that's aquick run down of that. Go the first laderboard in a second. But do you think Ben Stokes is the best crookedall right now? Well, we we weretalking about this. We were talking about. They sit in the next the otherday H and it's an interesting one,...

...'cause, obviously you're you're on thebandwagon. You think he you think Heis and I probably agree ifwe're talking all formats, but I think stav Smith- probably stillhas him intests only. That's that my view. It's a tough one like I know, Stae MeSolop at abatmen. Don't get me wrong, but so, if you look from the ashesuntil now or start has the second mose runs. However albet He has played a lotmore tests than the Australians and a few of the other countries, but he'ssitting on two runs behind Marnus at an average of sixty. He has two hundredand fifty more runs in Steve Smith, but arm miss being going ot an average ofabout seventy five. So he's got him there and stoke has like four tons, seven fifties or something which is all pretty similar to Marnison Smith, sothey'ethemanas and Smith probabwy both have hem in terms of the batting and there's also bloks like Babara's armBarie Chame, but they eve'n really played enough test to take their startsinto account. So there is two man challenges for the best bousemen in theworld right now and then ware in the last yer twelve monthsanyway, and then you look at the Boll, so they've they've got im there. I metthat. But then you look at the bowling and he's in top ten for wickets takenand he's actually bol less overs than everyone in the top six. So it's likehe just doesn't he does it all? And I know you look at it. You look at himand going ask Missa wave at Aboutsmin, but when your factor in that bowling, you factor an how good of the fields when Heis, although smit, is also wellclassfielder and there's just something intangible about Benstokes. It's like it brings out aggressivecompetitiveness to an engantain that othewas think would have it likeEngland's historically kind, O lucky joger. She cooks, thit kind of justpleasant people who are kind of the...

...typical gentlemens of the Cricket Sport, but Um Sto Tino brings that edge. That kind of Australia is typically knownfor really and just stuff like on the fifth day. Hewas bowling with a really close field, soeone drove it through me off. He tookoff after he bowled the ball. Dived stopped the ball when, like the boy waslegit this far from the rope he died, full stretched knocked it back, don'tthink he even saved a run ecause they ran for anyway, but like that's, justthe crazy stuff stoke staes. That don't think many other cricketers would bewilling to do and he's just like in that test. MacShe's showd, he can bat slow. He can bout fast and yeah. I don't know. I C Inot really fully on the Bas Sidis, the best cricketorwas, more kind of just. I thought that I was thinking when Iwas watching that test I was like. Is this man actually the best ciciketer onthe planet but yeah? It's just hard to hard to argue when you look at esstarts, but I understand the Smith Call: Do you think in all three formats stokes as t enumber one so like if we, if we viewe te Ra? Sothis is the way Iwutit say: You'll you've made a new country and you getto pick eleven plays for your team and obviously 'cause you're in new country. You have a team, an tess, ardiis t twenties whois, your first peak yeahthat that's a very, very tough one. I mean, I think I think in one day as stokes isas good a batsman alone as stavesmith 'cause. I don't really is not Smith, definitely isn't the best in the world at money as but not a dominant, yeah,Um Yeah. Look, I probably would take stoakes. I don't. I don't know if there's some English bias in that call, but I guess Colly Shan Truinturnactually, aAy coly you olmost, Hade, coer Yo have...

...a Smith. If it was three four minutes:Yeah, it's a tough one like I don't want to go to in debth 'cause. Ihaven't like actually fully thought at Thro, looked at the stats or anything, but I definitely think it's something that well, it doesn't really need to be.Disgusted. Is Hat they're just going to play cricket, no matter what peopllthink of them, but I genurally think if he has another cracker in this nexthesty mi well and truly have atis spot on that Mantil as the best cricketer inthe world right now, but yeah. I just wanted to touch onthat. Um Justin, good debate, yeah it it's an interesting one.Obviously there's some factors that play a part like Thei Estralis, notplaying croicket right now, probably helps Stois cars in my eyes, BCI'mwatching Stokes, I'm not watching Smith, then, but another thing in stokes is Umfavores in terms of his batting. He asked about on hard decks where harddeckd tobout on hot pitcheres Um, whereas t Australians like what theywere playing on in the summer, which is like cement yeah, that's true bout. Thesolling Smith is the UM, the one player in that Australian Tan,that dominated no matter what pitch yeah amomanes Marnus as well, mpretylike not on not on Smith's level like in the ashes last year. That was justridiculous. What smetdid Yeah O, if you took somemith out of that ashes seriesEngland would have cleaned it up lukoran in like four one or somethinglike that yeah. But then it's interesting 'cause Smith, didnhovergood summer, well, er he to his lofty standard, so he's a interestingplayer. Smitty! Obviously you'll probably take him carrying the team andthe ashes over Pakistan series at home so that moves us into orvertsleaderboard out the moment. I've actually got despite me sayingBenstokes a one of the best crickes in...

...the world. I will be the best. I don'teven have him. On top of the boment. I've got big rost on chase on on top of my leadaboard that firefar in in the second match, got got him the four votes, and then I hink hecored two fifties or something or two forties, and it took a couple of weeksin the first church with test which picked him up two boats, and then hesits in front of holder and stokes tied on five foats, for you, you've gotstokes he's got a two point lead with seven voats on Chanon Gabriel, who hasthe five from the first test. So all pretty tied up. Obviously three test series so going tobe like a big lead for the winnow, so both both ouht for grabs me coll, compuches, mvpse, um, but yeat, so that moves us into the third test. How comeon p tonight, you Ma you made a bit of a spicy spocy core with giving chace the fourvotes in the in the last test, Iwas sibly what yougave Wol you gave him three mots yeah yeah, but people always say that a fivefor is the equivent of a hundred mm and s. So if you cancel out the fivefor in the hundred, then sibleys made twenty runs 'cause, he mat a hundredand twenty didn't Boutin. The second tings rostand chase took he didn't bowlagain in the second innings, but he made fifty in the first y. that's justthat was just my logic but i'mnotsibly, especially 'cause. He kind of set upthe wind, probably stiff, not to get the forl and like chase, took four firbu a Firefar, but when m the other team's made four hundredand seventy just the five faven baler and actually declared. So it's not likehis fife. That really did anything, but you know, but he did reon hemost of hiswickeds wear the top order. Wasn't it lucky go yeah he took dum got crawlyout for it dark yeah Um, who d you get...

...through egot burns out as well, I'mpretty sure so yeah they won't jump Timepoles, but ye that leads us into the fertest. As I said andnow. What are you thinking forEngland selection at the moment, so this is coming out on Saturday, butwe're talking about it on Friday. So we don't actually know the team. Yet, whenyou're listing you'll know because day one would have happened, all we knowright now. We've Bot a fourteen man squad England has announced it is thesquat of the last test, plus the three pacebowls from the first hess, SirAnderson, wood and archer. So there's going to be three to be cut. Who areyou going with? Who Do you think they should pick as the three or maybe I'veseen some people on twida saying don't pick best but im interestinin thinkingfor the balling attack? Well, it's that the sime grand rot yeah, yes and it itwas actually turning quite a bit Ar so Defima tofater I'd definitely pick bess, which man, one of a couple of the Bollers Wuld, be pretty stiff, but Imean I'd, probably go archerbroad Anderson. I D. I write Carin high themost, but I can't really see them not pickingarcher. I think that's exactly what they'll doalso by the way, the best not picking best. They have stokes who's takenthealdmo wickets in the series. So why would you go five scens but anyway? SoI definitely think that best is playing yea hundred and cenn grave. I don'tnecessarily want that like I would pick differently, but ID definitely thinkthey'd go Ananar from broad just because they're, like probably themost trustworthy bowls, I guess they've kind of shone over while Anersen abroadfor the last ten years after for the last twelve months, their top classbowls mark would definitely know. I just it's hard to say, because obviously Iwanted impicted in the first test after a good sat African series, but Ijusthonestly don't know if he's built t...

...for test cricket like realistically, what He's built for isto run in and bowl like three ovas of rapid pace Um and I'm not really sure if that suitstest, Cricke and he's kind of like mutual Johnson in the early days beforehe turned good, like he'll produce a pearl every now and then, but he bowlsa lot of crap, and I guess you can argue the same with ofre. He bowls alot of poo well like in that first test. He was bying a lot of fool, tosses andstuff, but yet Jofra, just DROEF droper oftand finds a red them like he did inthat second innings and then he goes to work. Don't think. Wood has reallyshown that inhibadon off the back of that first test. I don't think hereally deserves it over any of the other guise and then yet it's a tough one, becauseI'm also a big Fan y curren. And if I'm honest, if I was to pick the side, I'dprobably only go with one one of Brode Ansen 'cause. I think at this point in their careeers they'revery similar bowls, like they both Um, the like they're, not balling, that FASeboing one thirty fives and then more about accuracye same swing Um. So Iwould personally only go one of them, but I definitely think they would bothget picked like I'd rather see. One of them get picked carned for the left armand an Atcher for the pace. I think that would be a well balanced line up,but um yeah. I definitely think broad Annsin ANARCHA, pretty stifferentprettystiff on works, has the best balling average for this Yearis ouofall, theEnglah Bolls, actually egot be boldwell works of five for seventy six, almost a commurative below to strikerout of forty four, so Um itw'll be pretty stiff to be dropped. I think hemade a few runs in the first innings, maybe no for about at but yeah I'mpretty stic for work, but s Kono, just...

...the tame of these careers in it reallyone s just does a decent job when he gets piqued and then he just seems tobe the one who gets left out, but ll he'll keep grining brones and theircareers, like you know in that twilight Faye, so I'm sure he'll gethis Topu if he keeps boling well did you hear James Andersen came out andsaid he wants to plan the Twentyn twenty one. Twenty two ashes inAustralia? Really that's eighteen months away! So ywe wee, likethirty nine yeah! Well, I mean I wouldn't be against it, but H S he'snot like Inistrali, though I guess strols on Tho he's got Ta Pol record, but last fashed as overer. He waite a bottle with Dan, so Yeatu, but yeah so interesting there from Jimmy. But if,if he's there, they'll Bein 'cause he's an absolute legend of the sport andthen on on so that's pre, there's going to be no bauting changes. Obviously, because there's not even anyone includedg in the squad who could be anoption, they are found that I found that interesting 'cause. Obviously theyfinally dropped denly after after our best wishes, but then cruelly got his opportunity and made a goldendack and then Tadoff ta you cat you kind of dropsomeone aftere. I was actually worried like I wanted them to, but I was worried. I were going tobring him back, which would have been shocking, but now I'm glad hat ityou've got to commit, give them at least one or two tes series in theposition. I think especially, is such a pipial position. Like number three Um.I also saw some people calling for Butler to be dropped. Pope keep thatworks at seven, which is an interesting one, but then all of a sudden fallinginto the standard England trap of just having like two bowling all round asseven and eight, which is oh and then...

...have an extra Samer Wat works as theExja Yeah. I don't know about that. Yeah like I don't want bole to play, but it would only be for folks, in my opinion, yeah exactly and then, if welook at the West indies, obviously we're not the most knowledgeable onthat side of things, but they've had serious issues in the top order. JohnCampbell does not look up to it. He can't of just I think, he's gotten tothe point on the to where he's like I'm out of forms. So I'm just cin try andswing my way into, for which is just not working for the great man Um. Ithink it was in that Second Inn Maby, but he often does his he'll hit acouple of falls early and hell just like brawdl. Something we'llmake him look like a fool. So there's people saying he might be dropped andthen there's also people saying shy. Hop might be dropped, but Jason Halleycame out this morning and you know he was backing him up saying now. Wehadlike have full faith and hope he didn't say anything about John Campbell, sostiff yes, so I don't know I don't know: Do you think they should make a changelike th, y've they've done pretty well this series, yeah ell, I mean yeah, hope on't get dropped, I'm not really sure who who's in the pecking order toopen yeah th. The only three options are so they'vegot that bone guy ncry up on her, but he's the meddleward about when Heis, the only guy in the squad. Basically and then they've got Shane Mosly, whois experienced like his plaed, a few tests here or there as an openingboucemen he's in the reserves, but he did nothing in the practice. Games andT N, Theyjoshi, O silver whohe actually scored an hundred and ninety in one ofthe innings opening the batting his only twenty two. So he could be a kindof left field choice, but I honestly think they're just going to pick thesame team yet's only it's only been in two testsso far, so I guess off a long break. It would be fair togive them another shot. Ot It yeah,...

...there's not there's not too much areason to change things up yeah, but in turn inin the long term, I think there's a few players. This is a really importanttest for Um. I think it's really important for John Campbell andShehhert, both of them Becaud, Dambraba and Um Danbrabe and Shimron Hetmi. You wouldassume they're going to be back for the next test series and there both bassmen, who ere Bouta at three and four in the past. So all of a sudden shyho could beould, be left out of the squad for the next te ill, not squad, but the firstelevenent in the first test of the next Serie. So I think it's a really bigmatch for him. He's shown a lot of promise his whole career really, but hehasn'm really produced im much for the last three seasons, soit'll be interesting to see how they go, maybe a batting order, a shuffle whichMichael Holding or anbishop. I can't remember who he was saying it. Theywere suggesting that they Ekon, maybe hope down to five or something which Ithink could work, but the problem with that is brooks is doing really well annumber four chases doing a fairly decent job at Im, number five and thenBlackwood looks like a natural number. Six will lower or aboutsman lo lower toMiddla about them. So I don't know if you really wantted to disrupt that justfor the benefit of a player who's out of form 'cause, it's kind of like it'sTay issue should really punish all the plays for it. CINDO bt, Croston Chaseand Brooks both they're, pretty they've shown good temperaments. So I thinkthey would both work at number three, but it's kind of you don't really wantto disrupt it to t' a bit. It's a pretty big risk. Yeah. It wouldn't bechuffling those guys around yeah, so we'll find out tonight. I guess whatthey do in at in terrs of England. Obviously, Jos is going to play despitea few people. INTITE callingthat Pope keyor a shuffle thing, but it's a bigit's a big test for Jos Butler's career.

If he doesn't make, runs in eitherinnings this test batch. I think I think he would be like Io'LD bebacking in Ben Folks to start the first test of Pakistan, sers Um. I don't knowif they play 'cause. I know there's no test playersin the one day, squae against island. So I don't know if there's a firstclass practice game in between. I doubt they would be because it's quite a tarhschedule Um, but yeah Arican benfarks would be giventhe crack because you can', this isn't good enough of butlers t n yeah yeah. We wanted folks to play thisseries and he should hi should be the man but Yeah Li e. It has to be sad. It's abit stiff on Butla because, especially in this serus there's been a fewwinnings where Hi's kind have had to be selfless like when he was opening Twistarks Ot obmously, not his position. Is it but M as jus something Ho Coul keep. It doesand there's been quite a few times where it's actually been the perfectjospotlers situation and he's coming an only score, O thousand and thirty, which es to be scoring into like sixties and, above so yeah Iraqinis areally big test for job but Jost Butla, not so much wit. The gloves, I think,he's been doing a fine job there, but yet, especially with the bat, any is anyone else on the Fi to theEngland in the England Lana. In terms of that Pakistan series well, Um Barns hasn't made any runs.Has He nonhe? He made a forty think an secondeins of the first test, so I mean there's still, there's still the potential afor, youknow Denley to push out one of cruly or burns like crully could open. But apartfrom that, I thiyouill definitely stick with Pope.Even though he's done nothing yeah...

...auses, you had a great series against SallAfrica and hes up and coming, but yeah, not not too much Oldin the thought yeah, maybe maybe they might lose patients with Popeir, six and Mit put hem up theorder NPOTENTIN. If he prepares that CD, a lot of the times similar to Butler,is kind of coming out like lose loose situations. Where he'sgood about fast and SOT, really his game. Is it but yeah birds, probably the one in troubledmoise, but even then it's only like I was saying for the West indeas, it'sonly three tests back from Loa a three or four month lockd down, so I thinkthey will go pretty much the same line up, especially if they win the test. Ifthey, you know get cit, all thet might be a different story, because it'd be a pretty embarrassing test, seriouslossoer monest. If they lose this one western news, I don't think how tesingle point in the test championship coming into this, but yeh that's prettymuch. All I've got for for that serious, an anything else. You would like topoint on in the test match coming up tonight: Um, nothing in particular, just hope. TheHRD the bars come backen up when the series eah. Would you preferthem to that first or ball? First, man will weawize like weaize like sayingyou know Jimmy opened the bowling on dayone, but probably unless it's luck, unless the conditions really serv, it I'l probably be signed an Batfist YeahShard in th, and that second test that it really can set up a test match yeah.So yeah, that's pretty much it. I'm noot gonna just talk absolute rubbishand try and get this up to an hour or anything, I'm just going to cut itthere. That's all we wanted to talk aboutreally got some big episodes coming in the next few weeks.
