I'm cheese. He settle. All right, welcome back to the on the ball podcast. This is episode thirty of the show. Today we're joined by new guests big CAL Elbans, as you can see on youtube if you're watching there, but if not, if you're listening, welcome Col thanks for me. It's a honor and a privilege. Yeah, as you were just saying before, we came on bit stiff to be held back to La if number thirty. But you know, sometimes you got to save the best batsman to like six or seven. Gilchrist, like thirty more days to go. Yeah, yeah, Gilchrist, Gilchrist about it, like Sulker. He's pretty handy player. So so countly? Not sure. Yeah, it's like number four batsman in the ones. Oh Yeah, all right. Yeah. And then, but, as you can hear and see, would once again joined by Rhett. How are you mate? Good Mate. Here you go. It looks a bit chilly down and Tassi to night always, isn't it? What's it's not too warm here either. Today we're just basically going to be chanting shit about cricket. We've got a few like topics we're going to be discussing, but it's not really any specific topics. We're just bringing a few things to the table and we're just going to you know, just chat generally about cricket, which is what we usually just chat about. Anyway. We have no lights. Yeah, pretty much. I've talked to you guys since like two thousand and fourteen. I think maybe eighty percent of the conversations have just been chatting shit about cricket. So little bit too French conversation you as well. Yeah, yeah, thank with molds and our very nick correct I was a sorry making Hampton like about a month ago. I reckon. Did you speak French to it? No, she was like across the ride in there. You didn't see any, thankfully. That's a classic combination French and cricket pressure. Now you you wanted to. I didn't really have too many ideas what we're going to talk about and you thought would be an interesting idea if we all just brought something to the table that's like, well, a cricket anomally, so something that's just bizarre. That's basically happened in cricket and we're just gonna, you know, educate one another on that thing or event or person and basically explain to the listeners why it's weird and just the details of that thing or event that makes it weird. So join to start us off. I know you've got something pretty mud and up for, I'm sure. Is that bizarre? The car idea I had in my head, which maybe I didn't explain super well, was that is anyone ever know that that facebook page useless AFL stats? I think I'm out of seen a few things from but I don't know. But it's just like the most miles ridiculous, like Uba specific stuff the like, has obviously no purpose. Yeah, I was just I just didn't right reading them a lot. So I was thinking, like, do you talk about that? There'd be a lot of that. They'd be even more useless cricket starts and AFL stats, because Krie gets like the most statistical sport ever. Yeah, sure, true. I know. Recently, I don't know how, but I found out about this guy who played, Richard Cheek ways name means, which in itself is just funny, name like cheek. Yeah, from you know, dashing middle lot of basman for in a very strong era offrom, New South Wales. A few stats on the man played twenty one first Class Games thousand and twenty nine runs at twenty eight, point five eight, a score of a hundred five, only one hundred. These are. There's a very impressive innings of him on youtube actually in a mercantile mutual final. Make a hundred thirty one and you've watch this innings. Yeah, he works. He's got the highest ballot I've ever saying. But Um is it was sort of why I found it. First an he's it if, a cult figure, and then you south Wales sort of lineup because he apparently was like the like biggest alpha dog in Sydney great cricket like ever, like absolutely took the Piss. Unfortunately it was in the nineties, so none of it's on my cricket. But the only thing you found he scored elevenzero first grade runs for Randwick creer club by play forever decade.

His last most recent recorded game on myke cricket was a a Strailian Cricket Association Master's team versus an act invitational. Eleven bold first ball. Now I'm surprised he's not been on like well, I don't know, he might have been. Im not the biggs been on the great cricketer. Yeah, it's going to say sure, he's been as more to this story. He I'm not done yet. All right, it was. It was a late singer, didn't play, an instant, the late singer of the band six and out right. Yeah, you might have heard of them. Breton Shane Lee, you were both in it. Yeah, along with Bradon McNamara and Gavin Robinson, who I don't know. I think I'll new, south Wales first class players as well. They had one one one thing would have craft the area top one hundred. She's got can't bowl, can't throw. About that incident with the Joe the cameraman onever you are. Well, what incident was that? Well, like it was like I don't never know the details of it, but that was. Yeah, I know, I know. You took about like someone everyone thought on the one yeah, they said it was. Everyone thought it was warning, but it was actually in the Joe the camera man like claim responsibility of the everyone knew wasn't hire. Like you just told someone like in their own team that they can but on for or throw. Yeah, and everyone thought it was warning and they had like professionals like test, like to say who it could be. And she like that. And then the Cameram was pretty compete. So Richard Cheek Wee, Dick Cheek we cheeks. Great, take whatever you actually this. I thought it was a first. Asian, I mean Chinese Australian, never play first class cricket, but he was it, second behind Hunter Poon. Luckily his names aren't the other way around. One game for Queensland and the S. How's that even like knowing? But he played for Queensland Against Victoria, the G Queensland Bad at first. All that. Hundred Sixty two Victoria, two hundred and five, hundred and thirty eight declare laundreds. I can't remember there. Anyway, that's all I got. Oh my God, seems like a very odd yea. I've been this is West Tigers player called Michael Che Cam and Lucky. Every time we watched him, he's like calls him cheeky. Yeah, and then he calls him like Richard Cheek Wei, and I've never understood it till you brought it up, like last week. I grew what it and like I called him that nickname just because it was funny and then I never knew what it meant, and then that now I know. So cheeks, he's got a active instagram account, Richard Cheekley. There's not much on their day. He's got like less than a hundred follows. Poor guy. How it is a great trick thing that had because he was a singer for that six an our band. They had him on singing a song like this is like a month ago. Wasn't even longer. It doesn't been a media stuff too. Gets himself out and about. That's impressive. Have you? Have you guys ever come across many like Chinese Australian cricket is don't know, or not like professional, but like in the in the DNA, say are a man, a couple of guns? Me Really? Yeah, we have this kid like he's now. He gone like he was a half halfway, like half white, I think, half Pasian. He was beast like he got gas and hit bombs. Yeah, this is guy. I'm Brisbane junior cricket. He was a bass dams like Aranteo. That's like probably that only guy I know. I guess. Like they could be people who are like high Chinese. I mean it's fine to me for some reason, coacher, when...

I'm paring like real early on in a junior final at like at Hurlingham Park and that was just like Asian Kid. He like claimed the boat everything up. Yeah, yeah, everything, like lift off and run. I'm spin and every bull it would all sho you'd be like Ah, this one's pace and he'd like go back like a fifteen meters anded like her. I'll go like there was a sorry, I feel like yeah, yeah, yeah, that was the Damon, pretty sure. Yeah, he was from Bou Marris. I think there's listening. Yeah, that's random. That made that was so funny. I'm flying cricket. I was some great memories doing that. So my cricket anomally it's a bit different. It's like, yeah, it's more just like a three stickles. Yeah, it's more just a freak me to free of these to Sistis. Yeah, and cal mention because I wanted him to give me an example, to like give me some inspiration, and he actually mentioned this game, but I didn't know it was this match. I just knew there was a match where Ben Dunk scored two hundred and thirty not out in a one day or and I just remember coming home from school and the innings had just finished and I looked at the score and I was like. Yeah, look struggling to copy. Yeah. So basically it's a one day cut match in two thousand and fourteen between Tasmania and Queensland. Queensland one by seven wickets and they chase down three hundred and ninety eight with three overs left, which is probably not what you see every day. Ben Scott Been Dunk scored two hundred. That it's Kunk. He scored twohundred twenty nine, not out of a hundred and fifty seven rocks. S S S. well, he's away. Don't see that gap. Yeah, just says Sydney. So I'd say North Sydney. I'm tiny's yeah, yeah, that's tie. That grounds. So he's almost scored a ton in SIS in pain. Bit Slow as you asked me. A hundred twenty five of a hundred twenty seven rocks, only four sixes. So if he'd open with someone a bit better they could have been looking at for fifty four hundred plus four hundred and fifty five hundred maybe from we're been dunk was like an absolutely jet like in the big all had a good as big bash here and so like every fifteen Mai. Now this biggest fluke, like if anyone's ever flute to season. It was that season or like all really that other than the Melbourne Star since then. Yeah, from like twenty ten to two thousand and fourteen, there was like Craig Simmons. Yeah, I was thinking great times, Luke Palms back and Travis Burt. All four of them were just like absolute weapons in the big batch and they sucked it like they couldn't even make like the shield team and stuff. Yeah, best balls. Yeah, like make Simmons I don't actually think had a w a contract. I think he'd just played the scorches and the one in one year. He was like one of the best bats from the big batch. It's good back. He scored a hundred in the final. I think Tom that semi, I'm pretty sure. Yeah, he got one of the fastest. I'm pretty sure. HMM. Now righteous so James Hopes, fair play to him. He's gone number for thirty eight off ten overs in back game. Yeah, it connoted three point eight hopes. He can legend of Queensland Cricket. He's one of the two hundred from yeah, actually is. And Lock has sometimes been called James Hopes due to his stocky nature, and I think that that's criminal to James Hopes because I don't think locks producing those figures anytime soon. When your teams getting thumped for three hundred and ninety eight. Some of the other finest Niggers, Paul George, went for a hundred and one off his ten overs. who called Dr up cheese. Not the greatest day out, but he took a wicket, the only wicket. So you win some you lose. Something like I are you taking not? Are you taking them for eighty six or one? Four hundred and one? It's none for eighty six month for it means you you don't even have a bowling average for okay, yeah, yeah, so you have paging a hundred one. So if you go, if you got on my cricket just for that game and sought by bowling average, it's blue. All right. So hopes he's not even coming up. So I don't know what hopes he's on about. The change room. It's all. It's all Peter George's shirt. That should be being heard. And then Queensland Roll Out. You're thinking they're absolutely cooked. It's been Kuwaja. This is early on his career. Two Thousand and fourteen probably would have only been tw his third or fourth year. Max He whips out a hundred sixty six of a hundred and ten rocks. Now, actually was he made his test debut in about two thousand and nine or ten. Yeah, Oh, really, I know. I look it up. It's very quick from his debut in like state...

...cricket to Australia. So yeah, no, I probably could be wrong there. It always. That's stuff always confuses me. Like Dave Warren has been playing for like ten years. I call that. Have you seen his tick tock creates? It's actually got a better trie doctor. It's cricketing career. I can not even has an eleven million likes of Tick Tock. made his test debut in two thousand and eleven, first class to Bue, two thousand and eight. So yeah, I was we've been around, sold it years off. Yeah, so it was. Oh, yeah, what I talked about, because you obviously starred in New South Wales. So is a queens on this point. So yeah, he's obviously a few US inside. I don't know. Laughter. He whipped out one hundred and sixty six. I'll make Chris Harley, who's just she absolute standard state cricket I he knew wipped out a hundred and forty two or hundred and twenty bone so and then, yeah, so they've gone three hundred and four hundred and two or forty seven overs. So imagine scoring Tou and thirty and losing. So I just don't know what happened this day. Like then's got to be an investigation into it because something, something wasn't right. I'm any just playing on this into deck. How many runs in total? Exactly eight hundred. Imagine, if so off, imagine the odds of total school manor of eight hundred. It would be like literally one hundred one. Yeah, I must have been. That's all right. Yeah, so four for eight hundred with the match figures, the average run rate for the mat with eight point two two, and Queensland still had three overs left in the bank. So you'd think they would have accelerated from there because they were only going at like a measly nine and over. So they would have been in to pick up that run right. Yeah, if I'm honest, man in the match should have gone to James hopes in. Absolutely he's actually one of the game. Man Ben Dunk coped it. I actually reckon it. was. He's pretty stiff there, match match winning open a time in a one day there. Did he back through the Game Kawaija? No, I didn't, but he's a battered to the thirty six though, over and he's basically led the side to be premis. When you make two hundred for you like it's not. It can't be your fault if you get some team lose. Yeah, and like, even though only six years ago this is still like that was like new. That was a new territory to be scoring double tons in a one day or like, I don't know, very hitched Arma. It's just made a regular occurrence every match. But anny dunk inspirational footy. A few others that I don't want to go into great detail off, but these are just some weird things. Like this is very general, but Marley's action is probably one of the weirdest things in cricket ever. Like you see all these people to work? Can you see all these people are taught from when they're like, for on how to bowl of crickdball, and you search up like who has the most test wickets and watch his action and it just resembles absolutely nothing you're taught. So it's like, so what is he doing it wrong, or is everyone else doing it wrong? I think right. Clock it well and we need to realmon having that. He had like, I don't know, double blow or something like. We fully turn his wrist aint. I don't think he can like straighten his elbow completely. Yeah, and he I guess he doesn't chuck it. All the tests have improven that. He doesn't chuck it, except for Billy Bowden just pulling him up a couple times. That's actually ballsy for you. From another one shift, Chanderpool, just having a great test career, just batting front on, probably one of the more rogue things. Once again, you're all taught from the age of like four or five to have your shoulder facing the bowl, your feet in line with Middle Stump, and here is the heel of his right foot is on middle peg. Like that's my finishes in the rice fell though. Yeah, I have to say it is overrated, like it's just when he's facing up. It is true. So actually do technique. Yeah, and then another thing. This is I don't this isn't like a fluke. This is just shit. Like this should be deleted from cricket history. Adam very just is average and if played just seventy five, it's like sixty two. He has the fourth highest average ever in test cricket, but second and third is Smith and Mana. So they could fall under him still and then he could still finish with the second highest averaging test creet. He's played just enough games for sipe proper. Yeah, exactly the minute against the West indies. Basically Twenty Years Requirements of twenty innings or like fifteen tests or something, and he just played more than that. He had seven not outs and thirty one innings, five tons for s and he had two hundred and seventy nine out against the west Indian. Yes, basically,...

...with the reason I'm going to say, you make it double Tony his New Zealand as well. Yeah, that was a yeah, we got bold, caught a no ball and then it wasn't even a no ball that he left one. He was on naught. He left fighting, got bold and the umpire, the on field umpire, calder a, noball, and then it wasn't even a noball. And read it, don't it's just those or anything. And like the whole fact that he only started playing test creer when he was like thirty thirty three like that makes it even weird. Like I swear it was like probably the strangest career of all time, like one tour to the West indies where he made late. Yeah, the turn every game. Yeah, I didn't go out right. It was a it was a series in like march or something, after the Australian summer. One of those series of just everyone turns off cricket, forget free tests, and then next minute you're looking at the all time test cricket list and he's right up there with the Dawn. It has to be said, though, thank God. Yeah, yeah, the a couple rubbish tests laid on which saved it. At one point he was away with seven. It's scary up there with the Dawn. But yeah, so they're just a few other wanted to mention. Right, what's what do you bring into the table mate? So minds a bit on a different wavelength. But everyone told about everyone talks about cricket as a religion. But and people laugh at it, but my topic is peace in the Middle East. So cricket in the last twenty years, don't laughs. Yet has been brought to Afghanistan, all right, and like before, before this and you anyone talks about Afghanistan, the first thing they think about terrorism, war, the Taliban now at least as like one of the most important things crickets done for Afghanistan is as soon as you mentioned Afghanistan, people think cricket, they think Rische kind, they think the World Cup. It's just like it's just rebranded Afghanistan and the way that people in India look at cricket and like in Afghanistan, that's the way they look at creet now. It's just like it's just like provides them with a different kind of hope that like people don't look at them the same way as they want to just because of cricket. Like people laugh at like the way people act, like in India and like Pakistan Afghanistan, around cricket. But like, if you look behind it, the way like the reasons why, like I reckon creet should be religion, like you should be able to worship machine Khan and I think could be the most peaceful religion in the world, except for the change rooms. On a Saturday morning fell into walked up to do this for examples, involved ruins everything to competitive people. The people in Afghanistana like actually saying that, like the way, like the culture of cricket is like changing the culture of like the Afghanistan people, like they say it's the gentleman's game, and like it's kind of changing the way people act in Afghanistan, like people more like becoming more peaceful and like respectful just because of the game, the great game, absolutely absolute leaders of the nation or the game that leads to anything but depression. In Australia The fat opening bouts and from Afghanistan the Wiki keep like card like justasl they developed there, like Cricket Board Twenty, only t twenty years ago, and in twenty years they reach the World Cup and like not even just like like in there, like people actually think of them as a threatened yeah, I'm pretty surety, pretty impressive island, I'm pretty sure. Yeah, since I two thousand and three. Yeah, they were like Paul Sterling and like a field and something Ed Joyce and Joyce it supposed like for the night. I just counting crickets and they just have a full time career for island, playing test career. Now it's absolutely joke. Now Afghanistan definitely have like rebranded. Like this is just me being ignorant. But like before they became good at cricket, I'd kind of like in my head I would bracket them together with like Iraq and Syria and stuff like that. But now, if you ask me what I thought of Afghanistan, I'd put them in like the subcontinent, with like Shlanka, India, Pakistan, and I was just like through my ignorance because actually said or all we would associate with Afghanistan would be like terrorism and stuff like. Yeah, like I don't think if you ask anyone on the street before cricket, I don't think they could tell you one thing about, like about Afghanistan, apart from the war or like terrorism. Like I don't think. I don't like even now I don't know anything about Afghanistan apart from Russia, the negative things get. We have...

...to mention, though, Rashid can he's at least thirty five. That's one of the things. Like a lot of people from that like everything. They don't even know how old they are ever say exactly their benefits, yeah, which you know respected. Yeah, they're all born inject hey when when she came first came out and he was like eighteen or whatever, and he just had like like he just wasn't tell me you're writing. I remember there was it's like new story the can of India like three or four years ago, and it was like some blow could like broken the record in like professional soccer. He'd like made his debut when it was like fourteen or something. It just like turned out he was like twenty five. Like they like fruited like a month later. It was just like completely wrong, only by eleven years. Yeah, like it was just like I even close and being twenty five and even finished growing. I don't know how they've claimed it, but yeah, I don't know what's going on there. Just that what we there. Any others you guys are thinking of? Other I made like a bit of a list. There were just some other random things, like they're probably weren't as bizarre. It's like Richard Cheeku, he's Sheffield Chill career for your south Wales, but just random stuff, like Michael Clark Bowling Australia to victory is but going down. It's one of Australia's great batsmen. Like Brad Hodge's career, like he's test career. I mean, yeah, I don't know. I was saying either. Yeah, like just casually would come into the side, make two hundred, get dropped as you do. Man, been most weird coach the halover ever. Yeah, and then there's a guy, I think it sounds like Gary Gilmore something. He played like two or three series. No, he wonde more than that, but he had like these two years in the early s or late s I think, and he had like a bowling average of like fifteen and him and Dennis Lille would just like destroy England and he just like I think he got an injury or something and then just completely disappeared. But at one point look like he was going to be like the world's Best Bowler. Apparently like hooped it like two meters every night. something. All right, but Bob Massey took sixteen for on test debut and I only played two more tests after that. Yeah, there's so many random stories and like sixteen for. Yeah, so many guys, like even dad. My Dad always goes on about had Jeff Thompson's like the greatest cricket he's ever seen and he reckons like he broke his back or something and he apparently came back and my dad like this probably isn't true. Dad Reckons, he bold like slower. After that he reckons he like genuinely bolt a hundred and fifty before the injury. But yeah, a lot of guys just get ruined by injury. Yeah, Jimmy Pattinson, the great man, could be try's greatest cricketer of all time if not for injury. All right, so that's that's probably it for the just the weird part of the video where we just four. One more thing. Oh yeah, what do you got? Well, we're talking about the Queensland chasing down four hundred or whatever. Yeah, everyone knows about the thirty. In two thousand and six. Australia, US South Africa. Westralia made four hundred thirty four, batting first, and South Africa Chase it down. Nine down. Yeah, I know a lot. I've heard about Australia losing and making for one or something. Contin made hundred sixty four hundred five. The destroyer for South Africa won, Hershel Gibbs, hundred seventy five of one on one. Catch it, Hershel, you dog drop the World Cup. That's an even remark more remarkable winner international. Where was that bad Joe Berger thing? Okay, surely in Australia's like no grounds. The wood has play it like Super High Elevation in South Africa. So that Cape Town, we're like the boulder sales. Is that one, like next to the mountain? Yeah, which one? It the one New Zealand called like Hayden put, is it? Now? It's like they're only played like some domestic one. Days it's called like Perpuka Park or something. It's got a weird Nre. Know, I find it today. Today, just make silly runs there. Yeah, it's like genuinely time. I'll tell you what. It's a tiny ground. The den and long second ground. Well, it's like on one side it's like genuinely twenty meters to find leg like the actually can hours like that, can I is like a top urge. Yeah, Bay, it is ground, probably the smallest grand world creep.

Yeah, Park over. Yeah, actually, is free stall like leading edges, like leading. I just don't go over the fence. They clear the fence by about twenty meters. Right. Did you say park overall, clock over the park pup. That yeah, that is it's generalely the size of a kids playground. That's like that's like my street road. Just just choose street or road, like I need to go think about the Fisher half the size of the Fisher yeah, all right, so next order. Droll in too. We I feel like we have some pretty rogue tasting cricketers, like you've got your stock stand and blows. Just love you, Davey Warner Manas you know, but Javy Warner or who are your favorite cricketers? This tough topic, like I have to wrestle with this topic. It like I don't know what I like. I don't know what tickles my fancy, like it's a tough one. Well, enjoy like eatings has and my specific performances rather than my players in general. Yeah, yeah, thank some days all I love someone, other days that is whatever, but that is have that one day where it's like it's been darn making two hundred is like the best player in the world on that day. Otherwise it's pretty obvious. Cricket is genuinely I don't think there's any sport in the world where, like you can just be the best player on the pitch on one day, like just like by miles, and then like but that they would never happen any other sport. Like consistently just different player, just looks like the best play on the ground. And also, I guess, because you can only make one misspe, one mistake, especially as the batsman. Like, yeah, you may not actually be the most talented player in the game, but like, if Steve Smith gets out just doing something stupid on ten runs, well then you could sport twenty, even though you're a hundred percent worse. Cricket at where I can bust. If you like miss one shot, well then it's all right, you can just go take another one. Yeah, and it's so unique how, like the different like opponents or the different pitch or the different like stadium can affect who's the group performs the best so much, like there's they can't be some very much. Was Out any sport? Yeah, for sure. Did you guys reckoon, its the most technical sport in the world? Or Golf? Most studios and credit sporting or yeah, I reckon goals, pretty technical because, like, opposite to cricket, it's like everything except for like the wind. Everything is like still and there's like no other players in the game. So it's like a hundred percent down to your technique. Yourself can go. Yeah, I guess it's also, like your minds a fact, I guess. Yeah, crookeds just the worst. For though, like I didn't think I've ever seen the sport where so many people just get angry and like eighty percent of the time someone gets out. They're not out. I want every except they're out. The most frustrating sport, surely, like I can't imagine any sport being more frustrating. Like the effort, efforts, a reward, rassure, just like when it's what's his name? From Hayle, pretty who? Just who's like? Sport builds character. What's up? Like's name? It's still how Colos Ourcah Matt. CRICKET BUILDS CHARACTER LIKE NO SHIT. And Yeah, like you have to be pretty resilient to just go back and just be defeated again and again, like it's like just standing there every sad just walking up for someone in just someone clock every Saturday. It's beat. That's what Gradi well, it's pretty hard to advertise create. Actually it does not have much going for it takes like six hours. I'm right. As as Brad Hodge one said to us in a preseason at school cricket. You probably have fifteen days. The CRICKD season. Yeah, you're only happy every three you only have been three times a season. Yeah, you only perform, i. three times a season. So when you perform you better cashing. Like, imagine that being the way you advertise. Created two kids. Quite, fuck that. Sorry, anyone listening, don't play. Created one another. For now there's everything that created. Only thing I love about cricket is, like I feel like cricket attracts good types of blokes because, like it builds good types of blacks man. That's all I'm saying. Mores your character. That's good, I feel like, as soon as it becomes like an old day thing on the Saturday. Yeah, exactly, like Shit blokes, they'll play till like under twelves. And not saying everyone who quits under twelves as a shit bloke, but like it as it filters out all the bad people. A lot of people quit when they realize how like mentally hard, like hard it is. Yeah, and then, like the time we're like in year eleven and twelve at school, like we're legit,...

...only left with like people we like pretty much well, yeah, and never speaking out of it, maybe, unless you guys have got something to say to me, you're great against a Kevin's alfway through a game. Who Me Her? Cool, cool, well, that, yeah, that was do you drop a catch? It was you. It s well, a bat. Which one there's met? There's many times. Oh, yeah, yeah, I'm formulated my missed email to me to headline that house. Changing to tennis, like I thought about the words exactly. Samething you give me stuck im out. Yeah, I thought you're talking about cal when I might debut in the prestigious eight. As I retired hurt on about my ten not got in the rooms. The thing or two about retiring hurt. We were talking about this. To tell that story can wait wait. Said, you know, the thing or two at retire yeah, that you're classing's ever been ridiculed more something that happened in in your seven for you. Game knows you're right. Actually all that makes in the you seven the other way. Yeah, because I remember I faced the first ball and I got five house and I was like, Oh shit that and then you get hit in the thigh hand Igr Faceba, when you're saying out, miss the thought. That's why I so bad and I was the best part it is at the end when I like I was feeling all right and the uncle has bowl is on, so I went out. They're just like whacked a couple of fours and Evans when to come back on, but I retired here again it sat. Wait more raise them for the second retiring like the ski. Did you give a reason, though? You didn't even. I don't know. I think I was. I don't even remember. I don't know how I managed it. I remember I really he came back on right you, I don't even think you faced the ball and you just signaled back and he came off and I was just pissing with eans again. Yeah, I mean because pychologically about facing a fastball like I do not know what it is. Realist, it's the thought of death, mate. That's what it is for me. All right, fuck that. Yeah, but like, realistically, at the level, especially then when we'll playing, it's not. It's not lethal. Like like Evan's back then, relative to everyone else, was quicker then then he is now. You know what I mean? Yeah, if I compared to everyone else standard deviation, he's an absolute outlile. Yeah, it was a massive aloe. It's amazing plating against him. Let you guess him last season. Are Really Clock Crey because he wasn't bowling because he's injury. Is playing too. Is aboutsman man? You remember that game? He absolutely like whacked them as well. Yeah, isn't manager. Yeah, if you're listening out, if I would play you again square out a day to put one of the chinmate get, you gonna get the ball from the fence. Actually, we'll get the Wilson because you we dropped the threes. I was put him in the river. I faced for balls off him to well one of them I ended up on the on the surface of the pitch base planet. It was like a it was like you work outside like stump and as practice round, wasn't it? Yeah, and I just like flops, lost my balance. I was pretty embarrassing. Bout the next one. Yeah, I've had it with my inners in my pocket. I told that story on like another episode. Yeah, it's two weeks ago, last week. I mean, I was so scared I didn't forgot to put on my inners before I lent outs about second ball. Almost did the exact same thing. Almost fell over. What my balance again, and then third and fourth ones were outside off. So, you know, stylish to leave look like look like you're not leaving it as it's hitting the keeper's gloves. But yeah, we were talking about the other week out. Do you remember that Scotch game, the one where we won by like one were on? Yeah, I was WHO's last wicket? Charles? Oh Joe's? Yeah, yeah, we didn't episode the other week where we said our top three various sporting moments. This actually made my top three because I couldn't really. I'll be honest, I don't think think too well. But mord, just the reaction that it. Yeah, that was a good guy. I was a good lay team like all the lads of the day. Yeah, you're not intil they were some of my more...

...enjoyable creek days. But what are your favorite memories of school? Create cow specific could, in many ways, like you think we wanted premiership like that would be obvious. But like it's just was weird, like didn't feel like right. We lost to the second and third. It's like I was singing about this the other day. I've won for four career premierships overall, one in like under the fourteen bes or sewing, one like Dowling, like on the sixteen state thing. School cricket and then the season just gone in premier too's. Yeah, and all of them Asterix has, but none of them are like proper. The first I under four ens one I was like not there for the grand final because of we're on like Cam. The second one downing. We were randomly allowed to get Mackenzie Harvey to play in the final even though I hadn't played for us the whole thing. And One US, one US a game school good hobviously we like lost second or third and like got that weird as our write against worsley. And then season just go on. COVID was that the same for you? Did your Ford, where we wonder four? So we obviously didn't get to play the final. Yeah, I'm in that. I'm come adding that to my premiership with. We didn't get to play the semi final either. Do we now? Just the first one. We beats our go ask first, fine, on was sover, though we beat like half as good as once did. They ll just tank like not, because I have like our all the yeah, but hand scammer hands, Harris and all that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so I don't want to premise it properly, so I'll be what's your favorite cricketing memory and count if you can talk with one or a couple. Don't right, when I when I knicked off against a long college that time on twenty or given not out and I actually built it. I remember once the game. I think I remember this guy. I think you were playing cool. I think what I think that was one of my twenty one end Scout, sixteen rocks. I think I remember count is in your twelve, twelve, you twelve to long college in you ten and you came in at like six and you scored like sixty or something. I was thinking like you right, I was thinking and a straight drive and it was either six or like a one bounce for and it was just like an Alpha shot in your ten. It's like no one does that. No, red came in at the end and like it's the only time I ever sing you like trying to wax. Yeah, I remember that. Yeah, I don't remember this thing actually, and frog opened the batting. We bad it Fu twenty overs and we've go on at like a run road of like to. I think I might have remembered this stand like when yeah and lucking lock was playing in the ones on the main ground, because I remember my dad's like standing in between both because we were batting at the same time. He made his standard classy fifteen off, like ten balls. What you is this Colt? I don't know. It's would have been ten or not. I can't tell the difference to honest. Oh now I remember was on my background. It was like, yeah, I remember how mad you making that him count less than fifty. AM My way s forty six or home, which that time that's a hundreds fifty, because I remember remember, and you're actually talking about it was in your twelve when we against Jilong, grandma, where we like memory Joe, when Joels and I bet of ages at the end. Oh, when you break the record for the yeah, way is that? When they batted for quite a while and then we got the final wicket with like an hour and a half to go and Useeah, yeah, you body Orkad to that little kidney like snicked off to second slip. Yeah, it wasn't even hour. It was like a bump ball. Yeah, and that guy batted freaking ages here, and that's sixty or like two hundred balls. And I think that guy went. I don't know if you actually does, but he might. He was close to getting drafted, but anyway, that's just right. Caleb Serum, I think he was playing in the team, but I can't remember the guys name was. I remember playing. You mean the pick, the what's it called? Socially? Could like scoring and stuff, pathways or yeah, like he bold, like these off. He's one of their two brothers at one of them is bolling off. He's any bold, like none for nine off ten overs. I've just found like darks it was actually saying. Another real earlier memory was remember we played on fourteen, like bottom age sickling, like have five is like a pinch it off. Yeah, and you are open...

...about in one day out page park number two and I made I made too off, genuinely too off, like thirty Odis. Yeah, like it was ridiculous. And then I come off in the guy's like well down, mate, well done. I's like I genuinely just couldn't get off the square. It was like the most like it was like ridiculous. It was. It was something to say. It was like generally like two or twenty hovers or something. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that good. That day was a forty over game. We made ninety ninety eight and like one, like one easy. Yeah, sounds of it a comably. We lost in the final like that was. Yeah, especially skill it was. What's your favorite memory? COW FROM THE UK Tour? Probably the same the other red as was saying. But what were you saying at Hay leary the first game when he made like fifty or something, and and I said, said Bro because obviously that's my first fifty. What are you saying? Yeah, yeah, you met, I'm you made fifteen, I made sixteen, you got man of the match. Yeah, exactly, like saying, I bet you cal still mad about it. And there we go. I need about ten. That day I reckon and got given that out. All I remember it's I didn't hit a boundary and we are so tired that day after when I got a fifty yards, like wanting to get yeah, lock, where's that shirt still? Because I got given a shit, but it was like an extra art. So it's like down to my knees. Ye, now I reckon. Wouldn't even be like cricket by the Best Memory. Yeah, that guy. Well, when Garden City dropping saying the sea words, all right to me that the very first day, like the first day when for wearing a robbing a Hoodie. Oh yeah, I fucking Tabnis, just like you look like a fucking Dick head man. It was like yeah, I can rights, acting as if it's in formal club, and there were rolling the guy like first cent. It's just as a sea word, but that I think. He I think he's bothered by a Hoodie. Yeah, Little Piss, I'm but he got like they we play in Brighton and they'll like forgot to cover the pitch or something. Yeah, we just played soccer. Can that's a soccer game. We had like over the whole time, the whole over, the whole tour. Yeah, that was probably better than the cricket JENUINE's elite. It was actually weird, like those genuine fights on the tour, though. Yeah, brother and Gassi went out of your looking Gassy, ended up in like a Bush round, like I had each other by the throat, and then there was that time where like tanny and breath well like fighting, and then Brett was just going to be like yeah, we're not play anymore because it was only dude. Like tanny did something that wasn't in the rules or something, and then Danny just like kept complaining about it for like three days and you remember Tanny walking off in the desert, just just stroll. That's that's my favorite looking. The other day we actually got to the point it was like look like an aunt kind of rides, just like footsteps and stand and the thing was the view didn't change the further you walk. So I don't really know what's going to find, like a lake or something. Yeah, I think like several kilometers one way you could get to the border of like Jordan or Omar. So maybe it was maybe it was on a hut telling me get this stamp on my passport. Boys. Yeah, I'm not sure how the view does change if you go one June or seven dunes away. So pretty weird. For just read the The for by four ride, though, was that was one of the best members as well. Is Good for remember you were in like we were driving on the dunes in the grand rivers. That was unreally. I I have a video of that. I was like filming a really and it's like yeah, I will, but it's just like a weird cranny paceship. I still yeah, well, because we go on like the you like can't see anything. It's just like the roof of the car and like a few heads. I'm thinking of me holding that like Falcon thing. Oh Yeah, yeah, I rather fine. Story it was. It said Bar, I remember. So that's my middle of the lighter of the two our right. Yeah, it was at the end. We know, pretty tired and given I was sharing a room and we were just like both just like on our phones, just like Lan on our beds or whatever, just not likenots, just pretty calm to whatever. And then frog, you like walked in. Didn't I didn't sit like knockle say anything, just like open the door, walked and sat down by no noise and then just farted story, entering dominance on the room. I like it to...

...make. I remember just like not knowing whether to laugh or I just remember when you get watching Jimmy car with a Jimmy car or like mock the week. Yeah, well, Franky Boil, you just kept shying that you remember. Well, I don't know what this all because you know how everyone used to say all that stuff like give me a head in the chamber, and then we said something like boys, boys, be all, lads, lads, lads, something like that, and we all have these little catch phrases. And then it got halfway through and we're like right, if you say, I know where this story is. God. And Yeah, I have a video of my on my phone of cows slapping something rhet every time we said it. We just slap each other. And then me and you said, like bull fighting. Yeah, well, yeah, maybe wrestled, like remember. I can. Yeah, it was like don't anyone you can give you your head. No, I swear something else to give me your head in the chamber. That was just annoying. One more. That was one more. It was give me a head. So it was myth, wasn't it? Everyone said, oh, calling each other miss and maybe. I'm sure that's where bad. That's a weird ball. It doesn't make me. I remember. We just did that thing where we like slapped each other every time we said one of those things. And then block bold one and the guy I played and missed and it's just like walked at him and a shout. Myth. That didn't remember these dream that Miss Boll. Everyone used to do that. It was the Tabel Lady. They like told him off for a sign. Look that was saying. It was like the dusting behavior, something talking like they're taking the pierce out of the other teams like that. I remember having marbre like, yeah, stocked on that day, and then your brother went and bad five. Yeah, and then these gybe usually. Oh my God, those guys really thought was inside. It was cooked, though, like how it's like how good was it like like a little town? Yeah, yeah, I swear. And we had the Butler at lunch and he likes served US dessert. Oh yeah, and I remember he was like John, like strawberries and cream or something else, and I'm just like couldn't understand it. It was just like Awkward Foot you. That night, I remember, I swear, something in my air conditioning or something. Well, like I just couldn't like literally couldn't sleep. I did not this was awake the entire night. Where did we sleep that night? Well, I did anyway. Yeah, say, had a room in the boarding house and yeah, I don't know if it's the same few, but I legit. Have my mom I had like a bathroom in the be yeah, now you actually this. I thought the zero recollection of that night. That was slam awesome. Yeah, very remember. I slam stuff. I don't remember sleep. I I in the Red English days. He was like crying it's like, yeah, Nice futty name, pretty crazy with her during the eight year a friend them as well. Yeah, I know that. That kind of or drum of the money. Yeah, tomb, the march, the right which March? There was like we were in one of the cities and there was like a rally or some shit, a protests. It joined in. Yeah, we jumped into like the protest and I remember, though, that it was on during that time, but every cameraon like step down during that tomorrow. Yeah, I remember like we drove past some somewhere in London where everyone thought he was or something, or we saw his cars something like that, and we drove past like the front of Down Street or sign. Yeah, I like setting up for a press conference and yeah, something like that. What was the market we went to that ended up being bombed or whatever, like yeah, near that, near the bridge. Yeah, that market was how, I forget what it's called, like the Lundon Bridge markets. Sign. Yeah, we we went back. This is so random. So we I went to the UK and January in December and we went back to those markets. I don't know if you remember right. I just like elite prawn wrap. It was, yeah, may broth. That is it was thinking. I went back to try and find that exact rap because I remember I like frosted. Yeah, it was now longer there, but yeah, now thing in a yeah, did you have the same thing, Abousky? I think so night. That's okay. We look like eighteen kilometers that that was actually cool. That was a good far may that was. That was just such a strange tour, like there's just so many strange things that occurred. Were so well, are all FIF danger in that? Yeah, we are. Look, that's actually pretty just eleven loose on the fucking streets of...

London, man like. And I was like fourteen when I went, just for Lanka and like the teachers and charge me, but like Duncan bully and time look's gonna be parking when that sound like just drank. I was like twelve, like on that cricket things. Yeah, but UK to it was just elite, though, like yeah, time I feel I couldn't appreciate it, but now, looking back, I'm like, yeah, that was actually a piece of but I but I remember. We enjoyed like every minute of that Shit. Yeah, they I remember. I don't know why we I saw it was just getting like a kick out of people falling asleep on the bus, like I remember. At that's when we like learned that you sleep with your eyes open, like a little bit like sleep, and then your eyes and really half open. Yeah, and like everyone was like stunned by that, even though, when you think about it's actually not even that like crazy. It's like yet like I already knew man, like I've been doing that since I was like since I can remember. It was just so much random shit, like I was ing your everybody seen a week, everybody singing on the bus, like one direction. She like you think of those blakes and if you you couldn't even like picture them doing it unless you've seen it. And I elvis. You. Wait, you went on the ALLERU option, didn't you? And your nine? Yeah, you on that. Yeah, and like that's all we used to do, like that's all the trip was. It's like sitting on a bus singing, like it was actually weird. A you are remember, because it was like a little buss as well as like the big bus and a little boss. Yeah, and I was on a little boss like half the time. Yeah, we went on a little bus once with missikens and she like thought she was like one of the boys, like she would like. She likes out at the back with us and stuff, and it was like it's just a bit odd. And like her daughter or something was a musician, something like that, and she used to like show up. She did like Ed Sheer and covers, something like that, and she would like make us watch them and stuff, and it was like this is just sounds pretty fun that. Yeah, where did you? So, for those listening, like shut is not on the saying this point, we was talking absolute dribble. But in the nine that out school, you get to choose a camp to go on pretty much, and me and cal went to all ru in the northern territory. Rhet you went to the gold coasting. You. Yeah, I went to that like sports. It was like a sports camping. Very good. Yeah, it was actually fuck, I don't even remember, like, I know, I hardly remember it, like I just remembered there being workouts and stuff that were like some of them were like pretty hard, and then, yeah, I think I just remember like becoming friends with like pennut and stuff. Yeah, I remember that one costing like three grand and ours was free. I I want lie, like my parents didn't carr about paying for stuff. But like subconsciously I was like that was a large factor of what I choose. Chose all Aru because I just like felt bad. Yeah, it's just I'll go overy. But in then I was happy with it, even though it sat on the bass. It was fun, but we genuinely just sat on the bus whole time. Yeah, because, like now I think about going on like a row shift to like all were on stuff and like that seems like so much fun. Yeah, exactly. Well, on the Muldy Goldie, that Tenant Creek and Catherine, just just have your wits about your own. Actually, I got we didn't stop the painding creek. I remember, like that's probably really one of the more sketchy places been. Why? What happened? I don't know. Everyone, everyone was just like lurking around the streets. Like there was this park that we walk past and there was just like two tables there and there's just like fifty people just like standing in the park. Of like felt like we're about to get like gang banged. Oh God, I just Friden. I don't know. Also like hat at that point hadn't well still happened. To be fair, about that point I hadn't had like much interaction with like indigenous communities and stuff, so probably a bit of like subconscious racism going on for me. But Yeah, how have you been finding premier cricket? Cow Good Law Susan was really like the first like entire season I've played because you before we had like he's Am's and I was injured a bunch. So it was good to go like your full season. was like playing the same team. Yeah, same people pretty much. It's good friends, good, yeah, rhet right. You played a couple games for us, so like wasn't. Did it surprise you at all? Did any did you think any? Like, did anything shock you that you didn't? I was just like it wasn't like the training when I went there was like priests, like not even that serious, like it just felt it felt like playing Adam Normal Club, except the Ron was a bit more arrogant. Like that's about it. Like that's actually the only difference. Like the level. It was...

...not back, yeah, like as high as I was like expecting. I when I think on my oh my God, everyone's Agun. Yeah, well, honestly, I am at the point like that most people get to eventually in create what I'm say, not, not really anymore, especially our club, though, like the thirds and force bowls, like just kid, probably if the kind of balls you just find it your local club. Yeah, and Damn is yeah mess. You pretty relaxed kind of culture. Yeah, okay, which is why I like I didn't actually mind my playing. Now was like yeah, well, like, yeah, it was actually so chilled in the fourth. Like yeah, I just pissed that I didn't get too bad. Yeah, like all the captain ever said was just like yeah, just try and get new, just try and do something to get you picked in the threes. Like that was just that talking. It's trying to neck grounds, take wickets complete and care about and then it's like one the premier out of like for no reason, basically completely just saw me take like ten catches on the Little Lisa being called slips ramp. The slips are happing. He's like yeah, just straight into second main. I was come my God, this guy's clearly never seen you feel before. They we I don't know. We did not do to an a premiership. We were actually crap. Like I don't remember us playing a single match where I was like, Oh, we actually played by that game and like we just had some people who playing our team who just weren't premier cricketers. Like I'll be honest, like I'm not going to name any names because I've been told off in the past for doing that. Peel wasn't happy with one my with me name one in a previous episode. But yeah, that's not actually okay. It's not listening. Mustafa, I love you mate, but premier's anyone who is listening. It's Mussy. Yeah, true, but like the the game against Melbourne, he he's actually a pretty good but player when he's had a lot of training. But he played one game against Melbourne and he hadn't played cricket for three months. In the first three balls went to the keeper on fool. So like it's kind of invadable when someone who hasn't trained three months playing premier cricket. But yeah, and then like we had like some year olds playing stuff, like yeah, don't know, it's not. I feel like a people think it's a very high standard. I'm sure how you play high stand and me by tunes, I'm sure it's pretty good level of the twos. But yeah, it's still like arries, like still got some in the way clubs. Some pretty average create like supplay, like Kingston and like the two's are pretty I know everyone. Everyone like tries really hard, like it's kind of like prefet like people like active professionally and like the twos and above, but like still something mediocre players. Yeah, I guess that is the Difference Between Club cricket and Pretty Cricket. The biggest offer this have professional I'll be honest, though, I don't. I think my like I have one of the better coaches in Victoria at my home club, but we trained harder and did more professional things in my local club than we did a premier creet. But during the training that I saw at like Dandy, like some of the actual talent at like Bahy, like there was more talented players at Buckley. Yeah, like, probably because I didn't see them for very long and stuff, but like and it was just like in the nets and stuff. But like because Buckley like get players from overseas and like have x professional players and stuff, like the talent black seems like their talent seems like better. Then you see these guys I actually trying to ball in the nets and stuff and you like that. Like that's the main difference. To be fair, though, like because we like training like the thirds and force nets with yeah, I'm really see that's that's the last batsman's. Yeah, that's pretty much all I've got really, which is talked absolute dribble for sixty three minutes. So obviously rise if anyone's listening, but I thought sure he's. How many hours listens do you get? Well, it just like varies really, like if I do an episode about Footy, like obviously there's more listeners, and like a video about wwe right to Sou you just like around like ten to fifteen. But the weird thing is it's been like three hundred and sixty different people listen to it, ever, which I don't get. Like I don't know who's three hundred sixty year. There's like a ninety from the United States, like I don't know who's who is that? That's that's absolutely robots and something. But weird that that one about right favorites forty moments. Actually got some lift off man to do some more personal ones. A lot of them just get like a lot of them people get like interested in the topical, like I...

...don't know, for example, that one. They got interested by like the short instagram video and then it just like doesn't translate into like listens and stuff, because not everyone is keen on podcast and stuff like. It takes a special person to just sit there and listen to something for like an hour. I think, yeah, may we should get some twenty minutes, twenty minute shorts gone, just five minute comedy skis when you minute quickie. To be fair, I'll just get cows little Richard Cheek, keep it. I'll just turn that into a little stand up gig. Make that a little bit emotional video. Yeah, yeah, now I'll make the poon hunter of the promotion you made. I just promotional video, just part I lost it. Everyone's gonna think like that's what it was the entire time, but it was just one good gag, like me tight, yeah, Hunter. Also in quite the one. Nine hundred and twenty. So, like I shouldn't get how it's been passed on through generations. He was like Chinese strap like like in like, Oh, they'll think I've made the s he looked Asian like coming. Actually he was time like it was in the army in this first World War. FREET hunter. Yeah, that's impressive. Well, I still left down for Richard Cheek Wei. That would be special if he had that title of the first Australian Chinese cricketer. But Yeah, fair. Anyways, I'll wrap it up. If you've enjoyed cal well, I guess going to check out his music has nothing to do with his gags. But yeah, if you just want to get around cow, go get around his music. They can list it on Soundcloud, can't. Are you on spotify as well or not? Really know? Yeah, well, you can active generally, but yeah, you can go to social media's and you can find links to like his band and or actually like not even, not even just way. What is it? Rubbing? No, that's not. I was gonna say rubbing you the wrong way, but that means opposite. But not even tooting your own trumpet. I don't know I'm trying to say. But your album on that's actually late. I was listening to the other day. Oh, anyway, so you go check that out. It's good tunes. And then Red Elst justsing. You really want to special media push its real special distance from this. If, for some reason, if you're still listening, probably should just have a good look at yourself and a lot choices. Yeah, like winner in that group chat. It only has like the tiny photo of like the people in the chat and I saw a rest profile picture. I was like, well, it's record a girlfriend, yeah, under a younger brother. Or sorry, I do that's not. That's not. He is Hunter Poon. He is Hunter Poon. Yeah. So, cheers listening and thanks for thanks for joining me. Lads, more.
