AFL Rounds 2-5 Review Part 2 - Episode 34

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Rowey and Pilch join Hamish to review the other half of the AFL teams that weren't covered in part 1. There are once again special guest appearances from Jack Broadbent, Noah Berends, Tom Morris and Jack Grenda.

Cheers. He settle. All right, welcome back to the on the wall podcast. This is episode thirty four, I remember. This time we are once again joined by peach and Rowy. Welcome boys, thanks, right, yeah, right, yeah, so we're back again to do why? If you listen to the last episode, you probably notice we only did half the competition. So we're here to finish, finish the job off. We got nine teams left to review their first month, well, the month postlock what we can't, you know, pass lockdown version one. So yeah, I don't really think there's too much to talk about going to it. I just want to say I feel like I didn't really say this enough in the last one. I'd like to obviously thank row in Piach for joining me, but I'd like to big thanks to the people who've like sent in their opinions in this episode. I think we have four or five. So I appreciate it a lot and I it's not too difficult to just film yourself chatting about the team you support, but does take a bit of time out of your day and some people like aren't the most comfortable doing it. So we appreciate it. So yeah, we'll just getting straight into it what. Obviously, as you if you listen to the last episode, the order was a bit bit baked, so we'll be having a weird order once again. So we are starting with Carlton, and for Carlton we have he's appeared on the show before. We Have Jack Brawl bent broad. He's gonna tell us what he thinks of the Carton footy clubs month. So let's hand it over to Brady. So He's my review of Carlton over the last four rounds. The Blues have been too in two over the last four rounds and find himself in twelve after the first five rounds of the season, which I'd say is about a part mark for the blues. If you're looking at the expectations coming into the season. Probably added ten right now. I'm a bias supporter, but I'd say probably seven out of ten has been our last four rounds. We started off in round to the first game back posts the shutdown of the season and lost to Melbourne by it was one or two points. Carlton probably should have won that game in the end. We got killed at the start, then came home really strong and yeah, lost by under a goal on the ends it's something accurate kicking coster. So that was a game that lost hurt us in particular. But then the next week we rebounded really strongly in beat the cats down at the Geelong, which is an unbelievable win, a real confidence lifting boosting win for the side, and a lot of the young players stood up, Eddie Betts, cripp our, dockty. They're all fantastic in that game. So and so with a key forwards, the forward line function the best it has in years for Carlson's. That was an amazing win. Once again, we got off to the fast start this time, unlike the other games, and jelong called their way back in the last quarter and nearly took it, but we managed to hang on, which was a great victory for the blues. So that made us one and two after three rounds. And then next week against the arch rival the bombers, we got a one point victory. Jacob Townsend had a shot in the last minute and came up short by a couple meters, which meant that the blues one in that game. Some of the Lesser Lights, some of the young players, stood up such a set of field cunning hand but had his best game for the club and leave, like Hasbot, continued his strong form as well as given so that was a really good victory for the club. Put us to and two and for the first time in a while we felt relevant and in a season. And...

...then the last game we've played was against the saints on Thursday night, which was a tough loss for us. We once again we started really slow. Our for first cause of being a problem and you know they, the saints, were just had too much pressure for the blues. We didn't come out firing. So that was a disappointing result. But if you told me at the start of the continuation to season them in the last four rounds that we'd be two and two, I would have taken that. As a supporter. Didn't expect to beat you a long probably should have beat Melbourne and hindsight, looking at the way they're performed, but overall it's been continued growth from the football club and we're starting to go in the right direction. I think the MVP, well, the best player over those four rounds has been the dock. Every game he's been pretty consistent. Got Tagged a little bit by geary against in killed her and struggled but moved on to the wing in the second half and played well. But he's transition back into the side has been seamless. He's been really impressive across half back and just given us a bit of a general down there with his elite ball use in the way you can organize the defense. so He's been super. So yeah, hopefully the blues can we play the Dogs and port the next two weeks. They moved up to the gold coast hub and hopefully we can get a win out of those next two and keep using the season. I feel if we lose the next two we sort of lose hope and the young players will stop believing that. Yeah, I think that would be really good if we get one win. Thanks for that, brobit. No, he's down and lawn at the moment, so appreciate taken time out of it your holiday. Yeah, so what did you think of Carltons month row? Yeah, I made two and two. They probably contents. Would probably take that. I think they do a bit more both. Brody said they've they are seeing growth and they are, but I think it's coming to the time they need to see more than either some of those sort of midlevel place a fire like we obviously saw cunning him that game against the bombers. I think that was the first time in a while you've seen one of those sort of midrange, sort of fringe players have a breakout game or the end nearly high twining touches and obviously has some great speed. The problems are the losses. They're pretty lack luster. This is lots of the time. You see lots of belief just get sacked from the younger players, which they fans, probably saw against the saints most recently. But all in all, yeah, it's been or off the blues. I think they do some near see some more growth. But the one major issue most noble gets the saints some as their three to all forwards, McGovern and mcai and CAS bolt, zero goal zero between them for Dame touches and six marks beaten by an Okay Saints Defense, and that does need to improve. I think that's sort of gone to the radar of them a bit as a potential floor. But all know's been okay, but they obviously still have lots of areas to improve. Peeled word you think. Yeah, look, I think I think blues supporters can be can be pretty pretty satisfied with where they're at at the moment. Obviously I reckon they were. They were unlucky not to beat Melbourne and then two great wins over Jelung and Essen and just holding on him. Both obviously outplayed by the saints. But yeah, some of the some of the fringe players, as Rollyan broughdy was staying a starting to help out cripper a bit more this season. Last season he was sort of just carrying them. We can work out and obviously you're not going to see carton play super consistent footy this year, but I think they I think they're doing right so far. Definitely past my yeah, it's kind of they're a tough one to charge almost because if you look at it in the grand scheme of things, they probably should be better than what they are at the moment. But if you just compare it relative to last couple seasons, well then, yeah, you're probably taking it as a carton fan, but if you have to write out of ten pilch, what would you go? Well, actually,...

I think the least for me isn't quite isn't really quite there and I think they no one really expected them to push for the eight. So I certainly didn't. So I've actually given them an eight out of ten because I think I think their supporters can be quite pleased with what they've seen so far and they have shown some good footy and good promise. Really, I'm going to give them. I'm going to be a bit harsh. I'm going to go six point five. I think those losses are still there now. They're not really honorable. They just sort of, like I said, I sort of sap the feeling out of the younger players, sat the belief out of them. I think those losses they need to be a lot more hard fort by them. The saints game was sort of lost early in the game and the only way they we're going to come out with the dignity was to close the gap, which they sorted did at the end. But yeah, I'm going to say six point five. Yeah, and if you had to give someone the MVP Rowe, who would you awarded to? Probably Docherty has a little bit of an edge overcriups just because he's hard in now standing stocks to the year, pilch. Yeah, same with me, Mat Docherty. He's been he's been unreal and his in his return he he was the game against he had against the bombers. If they didn't have docherty they would have lost that game for sure. So I think he's been the most impactful player. Yeah, fair enough, and yeah, once again, thanks for that, broadbent. Now we move on to Collingwood. Unfortunately, I did have a Collingwood fan lined up in Tom Baine, friend of the show, but in a quite unusual circumstance, he has concussed himself and he's actually like not being in the greatest way the last few days. All be it in a weird situation. So he as of now he hasn't sent it through and I'm editing it straightaway. So unless he magically somehow gets better and fills up to recording it, I don't think we're going to have that in there. So yeah, Roy, what did you make of that? I feel like that sounds like I'm bagging that banny. I'm not. We wish that biny gets better fairly quickly because I know he's had his issues with concussion. But yet roy, what did you think of Collingwood? Mom Boy, definition of a roll. Stuff obviously started off very well against the saints. That was some of the best performances by team this whole year, but then just went downhill. It was a gutsy loss against the giants. Can't really knock them for that. Obviously how I went down. He's probably the best player up to that point. But you see the they blew a thirty one to seven lead and then only scored five more points for the game against the bombers. You know, no goals in two quarters and they just seem to go missing in those type of games. They first called a specialists. You know, Stephenson saw as the post boy for that, and you just see it's always been two plays in the second third quarter when the Games really it's in the thicker things. They just don't have any trust in their kicking, no trust in their gutsy disposals, the you know, the three thousand and forty linking kicks that really set up the play. They just like to overhandle in those situations that become too careful. Sort of make those comparisons to geelong a bit. And then obviously with the arm shocking off field with the go inside on him has not helps, I think. Just they're on field footy as well. So yeah, it's all be interesting to see how they go from here. But not looking great for them at the moment. If you had to give them a rating out of ten row, yeah, look feels if it was based on just the same scan. I was clear nine hundred and ten. But ever since then I'm going to give him a for hasn't been good for them. Pilch, what did you think of their month? Yeah, well, as really said, they started off unbelievably. After three rounds they were, you know, everyone was saying premiership favorites and it was hard to disagree.

But since then, I mean, the giants loss was stiff. I think they did deserve to win that. But yeah, the bombers game, the bomb's game, just didn't cut it and they've had real concerns over their scoring. A lot of the plays in there, for line of been out of form this season. The defending well, but just not getting it done up there. And now the the injury issue with sidebum and to go, he's off field issues as well. It's not not looking too good for the pies at the moment and it's just in Flii. To those listening, he knows his name, sidebottom. We just call him SIDEBUMB. He's not. He's not an idiot. Yeah, and like that match against Richmond. At the time didn't seem too bad because everyone just thought richmond was like the defending premiers and stuff. But at now, the end of the month and reflection, it's probably average result for Collingwood, given Richmond's formula three matches following that. So yeah, yeah, and as rally touched on the the last three matches they've come out, they've come out strong at the start and then just went missing in the tags giants and bombers match. That happened. So I've given them a five out of ten for my writing because they're they're below expectation easily. and Best Player, Piach, best play out. This one was a tough one, but a lot of our defenders, I mean I would give it to how but he went down and then miss the last game, and then maynard and crisp of being good, but I've gone with Scott Pendlebury. I think he's been back to his best racking them up how carrying their midfield. So yeah, pendles, pandels for me. Yeah, Mr De Pendlebury, Ross, what about? Yeah, definitely pendles, just his composure and what he's still doing for the forty club at his age the moment is really what's shine light for them at the moment. The main one also just clear up the blowing. The seven lead was actually in Richmond and I said before. But yeah, definitely pandels. Yeah, I'll fit, I'll field. Rating for them would probably be like a negative five well being would be. Yeah. Now, before we went to Essen, I need a health check on your pilch. How you feeling, mate? I know you're not not being feeling too well today. If you have been under the weather today, Matte, thanks for asking, but it's it's not covid so so real. But there it's not. It's not exactly sickness. But yeah, if you feel like you need to, you know, relieve yourself of some fluids in the stomach, just yell out. We'll take a break. It will do that. Cheers. Yeah. So now moving on to Essen. We've got another fan for this one. When I say, when I was listening to it in the editor for the last episode, when I was saying fan, it sounded like us saying, like fan of the shows and they'd like sent it on and I chose. But it's not that we were scrambling to find people. Yeah, so thesty we've got a good mate, Noah barrens. He's actually appearing on the next episode doing a man united team of the decade, following out of pool one the other other week. So he's going to be on that one with pilch. So look forward to that. So let's see what he thought of the bombers. But Hey, so overall being pretty happy with Essen and season so far. I've got three wins, one loss which was only by a point, and then the postponed game against Melbourne. Although only lost one game by point, I still think we're pretty far from playing absolute pee. The game gainst freeo before the lockdown was pretty average against an average slid. I'd saying Freeo and saying could probably be said for the Swan's game, although got getting the results is is important, even though we...

...didn't play that well. Kin The COLN game lost by point, specially after the McKenna incident. I think I put us off a bit, but think we're improving and played a good game against Collingwood. I think, definitely our best game so fast and especially with a few players out, missing merit and Hepp also, when they come back, hopefully, will be our me how to not smashing teams and put in a few more convincing performances. I'd probably so far, probably give us an eight. We're getting the results, but I'd say we could we're still pretty pretty a little bit to go before playing our absolute best footy. Thanks for that, nons. I have to say. I don't know what you boys are going to say, but I think he was pretty generous to the bombers. Think part from the COLLINGWOOD game hasn't been too great. Like they've played three pretty bad teams and they've all been very close, despite being on the on the end of the win in two of them. But how do you make what do you make of their month, pilch? Yeah, well, I think I think good. Mate. Know I put it quite well. They haven't, they haven't played their best footy at all, but they have got the results. Apart from the game against Carlton, where they were they were woeful in that match and deserve to lose it, despite the McKenna covid situation. But the game against the pies last way that really bolsted their rating for me. They brought out they brought out their best footy and quite easily be the pies after a slow start to the first quarter. So it may be a bit of recency bias, but I I think I like whether at the moment. Yeah, rally. Yeah, definitely have to go pilled charm that win against the pies. That's really that's really stay at home with me about how us and and I still think the obviously need to find a consistency like the two thousand and seventy nineteen richmond, just the week and week out performances. Obviously the pies was great, but then you look at the loss to Carlton. I think she'll is really becoming one of the best players, one of best mid fields in the comp just quietly I mentioned him as my smoky Allustralian in the yeah, yeah, podcast. Obviously mcgrad's becoming really consistent in the good pick up for them, a pick one. I think everyone's a little sort like coming and they found wanted Ridley as well. I was an area in the ground where they probably do you improve with hooker and early looking to become one on one defenders lay in their career. But overall I think it's been good. I just think that consistency is what they're going to be needing. They've got the young blokes stepping up in the times when it matters, like Ridley and parish against the swans. But in that last court I think he had like ten eleven touches in that final quarter. So I think the young, young Bukes are looking good for them. I think they still do up a good list. I just think that consistency, if they can nail that, they're going to be I reckon they will make files and possibly go day. Yeah, so they've gone up to the Gold Coast and they've got north and the dogs in the next two weeks, which they would probably see is winnable games and I could would have them sitting at five and one, which could could easily be first by that stage, but more likely like second or third, which you definitely take, given the fact that they've, apart from the Collingwood game, haven't played that well. If you have to write it out of ten, Robbie, what would you give it? Um, I'm going to give him a night. I'm going to growth no. Yeah, I think it's just that that consistency that's holding them off that reaching that higher, higher rating. I'll give you mvpay will probably go to sal I'm just think he's been awesome for them. Sorry if I jump the gun there, but yeah, I think he's been awesome for them. And Yeah, you know, it turns pretty fair. PILCH. Yeah, same with me. I mean they were,...

...they would they were two meters away from being for and I so I've given them an eight as well to spot some a few poor performances, but they still got the job done in those two games against this swan. He's and free. Oh, but yeah, dylan she always been absolute beast. Ridley's been a good addition and hooker and Hurley have been good stringer as well. But Dylan Shill has been probably a top three, top five midfielder in the competition so far this year. So Yep, he gets the chuckeys for me there. Yeah, and I definitely agree with Noah. I think dealing with that conomic kind of situation and the week off would have been like quite rocking to the club. So the fact that they've come out of it, that's three, three and one sitting in fifth, ready to launch into that top four, I think all less than fans should be pretty happy with that. Now next we're rolling on to yeah, so this is always skipped to the actual second half of the teams. We're going to Melbourne. We've got another fan. We we have a lot of fans earlier here and then we can't forward at the end. But we've got Melbourne, the Melbourn Footy Club, the oldest footy club, the oldest current AFL Victorian Club, if you saw my instagram story today. But yeah, we've got Tom Morris, another friend of the show, here to chat about their month. So Melbourne, after a few weeks off due to corona, started off really well against the blues. Probably played the best quarter of footy I seen in place since two thousand and eight and got my hopes up. Thought maybe they'll back to the good old days of two thousand and eighteen. But not really, to be only just scraped across the line against the blues. But when you're at the bottom of the ladder scrapping for the four point, you take what you can get. And then obviously had the week off against Essendon, Du coin of McKenna doing the positive test, but then it was negative. Not to sure what happened there, but wasn't the worst thing ever. U Days. Couldn't lose that week. And then the games against along and Richmond were pretty pretty stocked standard from Melbourne. They are in it for a fair bid, looking really competitive. But then they'll just parts of the game that just looked no good. Just nothing was happening, nothing was clicking, just gelong and Richmond just all over the days not getting anywhere near it. I thought at the start of the year that the days could maybe realistically sneak into the bottom of the eight. But yeah, just I'll hope that's gone and probably trying not to get the wooden spoon at this point. Yeah, so I think everyone can agree that the list as it is probably should be performing a lot better than it is. But just ever since lost Jesse Hogan at the end of two thousand and eighteen, Tommy McDonald just hasn't been his form. I think keep like sixty goals that year and I'd be surprised if he's kick sixty since then. And the way just hasn't done a hell of a lot. So it's still just crying out for that ky forward. They can provide a contest. Even if he doesn't market bring it to ground. It's just so many intersept marked inside the days forward fifty. I think they most games I'd either win or at least draw with the Braakhven with the inside s count but it just doesn't amount to score. So yeah, that's probably the the main issue, I'd say, with the days at the moment. But the standout, I'd have to say, was Christian per trucker moving into the midfield. It's really taking his game to the next level. Think the pennies finally dropped for him that to perform well at the IFL I fl level you got to get really fit and it's crazy how the fit you are, the more contest you can get to and the more chance you are getting your hands on the seam. So yeah, he's been really impressive. So, in saying that, I...

...reckon I'll give them a two out of ten overall, because the first quartering its cardon was really good and patches of the Gelong and Richmond game of being pretty impressive. But I had, I'm not high hopes, but I thought that days at least be a bit more competitive this year than they have been. So yeah, pretty disappointing. But you know, being a day supporter fairly used to it ever since two thousand and seven. So yeah, it's just part of the day's Day and a these days to be down the bottom. All Right, thanks for that, Moss. I won't like when he said the weed, I was bit confused. I thought he meant like Tom McDonald had turned to smoking weed. Try to playing like the weed doesn't helped too much, like the steriod doesn't have much selling. But yet thank that, Moss pilch. What you make of Melbourne's last Wa only three matches? Yeah, look, I feel I feel very sorry for days fans. They should be so much better than than what they are. They've they were extremely lucky not to be on for right now. They just held on against the blues. They I mean they did it right against you long but very scrappy game, and then on the weekend against the tags they're kicking was just absolutely woeful. I've got an absolute vendetta against Clayton Oliver. This week's right. He's one of my favorite inside midfielders in the competition. He racked up Eighteen Kentucky's eight or nine clearances, but of the eight kicks he had, I'm pretty sure six were clangers and obviously cost them. Cost them a chance to score a few times going forward. But yeah, not just him, there hole midfield and also their headline midfielders, Oliver, Brashaw Viney. You look at their time on grounds each week and it's like low s for all of them. So I'm not sure what's going on there, whether they have fitness issues, tank issues, but I'm not really sure why that is. But yeah, D's have been pretty shocking. May You are to say Kentucky's you don't the people know what a can take me. It's quite a nice little you know what it Kentucky is well, rolly probably knows what start he had. Eighteen. So the yeah, it's contested possession. For those who don't know rolly, what do you think? Yeah, Helly, like was it put a well, they've had one good quarter in twelve and it was the first one. So obviously a nearly choked that they like a lot. They'd lack a lot of composure at the moment. The days you look at a lot of chances, especially the week and against the Tigers. They never analyze the play. You pause the pause whenever they have the ball. They never ever kicks the most appropriate option, you know, the most sensible one. You know they might be like a quick little handle over the top or like two thirty meter kick, but instead I bombed down the line in set mark and all that. They never know. If you analize their play, then every kicks the right the target or appropriate man and it's just that, like a composure. And Yeah, look, no forward line as well. I could touched on they haven't scored over fifty four points this season. So obviously there's a lot of flaws in the game. I think the midfield, of if you exclude Bra sure, the comic Bofield of viney brace so, Viney Arp, trker and Alliver, then none of them are known for their kicking. So they like that one midfield with poise that can really drive a play forward, like panels for calling with, for example. Yeah, they're in a bit of a hole the days. There's not a lot of chemistry. Set doesn't really help with those are making the right decisions at times. So yeah, it hasn't look good for them at the moment. In Two thousand and twenty. Yeah, I know I just said this first and as well, but probably more so than Melbourne because, like they weren't at fault for the positive test or positive false positive or whatever. Do think having a week...

...off would have hurt them as opposed to helping them, like, especially early on in the season when you're trying to get a bit of rhythm going. Yeah, I don't think a fortnight off would have been too helpful for them. But yeah, airpoints from both of you, Pilch, if you had to put a number on it may yeah, look, I've gone. I think miles had a two out of ten. I've given them a three, but obviously it's not looking good right. HMM, I'll give them a three, mainly because I'm in love with Kaus. I pick it. I think he's awesome to watch. They're those hipelies. Is a great, great to watch every week. But yeah, and the emerge of the truck of the midfield. But part from that nothing. We're really warranting a three. Yeah, I watched, I'll watch them for like twenty minutes on the weekend. In that twenty minutes he like went up for genuine mark of the year. Yeah, I think you got given like unrealistic or something. But yeah, peelch, MVP, who are you going? Yeah, well, obviously there's not much to choose from here. PETRARCH has been a shining light, but it's hard to go past big maxigourn. He puts, he puts the other twenty one players on his shoulders week in week out, does absolutely everything for them. So yeah, big Maxi Roight, Yep, Gorney as well. He racks up some most possessions form apart from there, inside, I mean. So he's doing it well, Max the moment. Chiker close I can but yeah, definitely axe out of their had a fair Meta a group on the weekend. Gourney was the only one that could hit a target by foot, which is just embarrassing. Yeah, this doesn't happen much in AFL, but Gorney should legit leave. Like he's in the prior's in his prime. Is probably the best Ruckman in the COMM I don't know where you guys stand on the grundy versus gone situation, but like he's in his prime, best, one of the best Ruckman and he's just playing for a team coming like bottom three. Really sure what the pointed even five as well, like we're in like basketball, NFL or something that those they would be straight out of there looking for a premiership or at least some finals footy. Next we've got north north. What are they been up to north? Such a even nothing to fans like they're always just solid every single year, always just outside the eight, provide a few upsets. So they've beaten the giants by twenty, gone down to the Swan's, just lost to the hawks after the Hawks decided to just choke the last quarter and they got pumped by the dogs last weekend. So how do you what do you make of their month? PILCH? Yeah, look really good start to the month by putting away the giants and that they were too and all of that stage. So I thought all north, be north, could be good here, but since then it's all in three. They've put up some decent fights, shown glimpses, but not too much to be excited about. A few of their young players are showing some good times, like a Jist Simpkin and players like that. But Yeah, look, not. Don't really have pretty much to add on north, as he said, but I'd say below part really yes, the very much to say it nor, to be honest. That are the five teams I play. They've obviously one too, and the two best teams. I gree best teams I've played. They've been so the giants in the saints and obviously lost to the swans, hawks and dogs and they're all pretty significant losses. The dogs was a smashing. Didn't play well they're at all. I only watched a bit of it, but you just tell who that the dogs were the clear Alfa of that game. Yeah, it's just really the there just joy Simkin, he's been unreal. Tarrent Thomas Continuing to impress, the ship Maine Shining Lights. Apart from that, you know, lots of their players sort of gone missing, lots of their the plethora of halfback flanks they've got and...

...obviously been Brown's failing to fire a bit. So I'm yeah, not not much else say on North but yeah, it's a bit odd beating the best two teams they played on losing to the other three, but interesting to see how they go for the rest of the season. Yeah, there's so they've also gone to the Gold Coast and they're well, I don't even know if these teams are gone to the Gold Coast. They're just playing at metricn but they've got essendon and Richmond. So on paper pretty tough. But you never know what Richmond are going to be like in the hub. They might turn out to be one of the weaker teams, given the amount of people who haven't traveled. Yeah, same with the bomber. Yeah, if you had to rate the amount of ten rotive, who will what rating you given them? Probably a five, given they I've been on the park and given they beat in the giants, obviously quality side, and the saints and real one. They able to come back from that thing about five goals down a half time. I was obviously gutsy comebacks. I'll give him a five. What about MVP ROE? Who's gonna Oh, yeah, I'm got to give to the moment. Probably sure, and he cans continues to fire in the midfield. Obviously joy sincoins a close there, but I just higgins just week in, week out. It's just been carrying them for a while now and obviously because he's a north player, goes under the radar, I Beit. But yeah, he cans definitely pilch writing an MVP mat yeah, I've for the writing. I've given them a six out of ten just because personally, I wouldn't have had them making the eight this year and they've. They did have that great win against the giants and MVP. Obviously, as he said, Riley Simpkins been great higgins bit of a smoky. He can just played really well, but I whenever he cops a tag he's just completely out of the game. But they all around. Man Todd Goldstein has obvious. He's arguably been the best Rockman in the competition this year. He leads the entire in clearances. He's racking up like twenty five disposals, winning the hit outs. So He's turned his game around because a couple years ago people are saying, Oh yeah, Braden pruce needs to play ahead of him, but he's really returned to the top, back up to his two thousand and fifteen form, which is good to see because we love him, the Big Gold Horse. I was hope you got mention after me. That's very unprofessional me. I actually completely forgot about Goldie. That's so bad. To be fair. They're right been a kind of like because they're not really part of like the tea. Oh yeah, they're just the only the only person in that position. If you don't I mean yeah, but yeah, now, fair enough. Probably a bit stiff to north fans who are listening. We've just paid out on they're actually a good club. We probably should be paying out in the completely crap teams, but well now next we've got the tags. This is our final fans submission. We've got Jack Render, synonymous with the Richmond Football Club. Let's see what he thought of their performances. I'm gonna Miss Thanks for having me on the show. So I'll be reviewing richmond season so far. Bringing Pretty uncharacter step from Richmond the performances post the buy. I think they've really struggled for cohesion in the current environment of covid and the lack of creeds are in the making a pretty big impact, going in front of Sixty Tho in every week to nothing the fair jump. So we've had one win and two losses and a draw against the pies. The losses were pretty disappointing just the way we played times. They look like there was a lack of effort. Some of the ball move was pretty shabby as well, fairly clanky dying forward and the pressure wasn't really delible, weak spects that the players would expected to bring. Obviously the Melbourne win on the weekend was a step in...

...the right direction, although we did lose a lot of key players, which isn't going to help going forward. But we in this position last year and we we banced back well. So looking at the MVP at defense has been probably our best line across the the previous four weeks and I reckon that's been led by Nick Boston. He's been really, really reliable down there. It's got the job done every week. Also Nathan broad. He's been really good. Probably not recognized by those outside the football club, but he's been really good this year. But Boston's my MVP. So right now to ten, I'll probably give us a five out of ten. So just a pass my f not grade, not terrible. They can definitely improve quite a lot the rest of the season. But one win. You don't take that after after the COVID crisis. So looking forward to see how we die up in the hubs and a young talent standing up thanks to that over and as he wiped the five out of ten. Now I was just looking him in that video. Beautiful Man, you he looks like he's, you know, maybe Swedish or something. So those beautiful blue eye want here. But now, thanks to that Grender, I've just been sent to strange things. While we were listening to grender's submission. Apparently they afel have given the green light to this new BOOT technology which saw jake king kick the Sharon eighty three meters or something. So Wolf, that's pretty weird. And then the England cricket team are playing an Odi the day before a test match begins, which another pretty bizarre thing. But yeah, so the Tis pilch. What are you think reckon of the tags month, nate? Yeah, obviously I'm expecting the tags to to really pick it up going forward despite their injuries, because they it's what they've done the last few years. But absolutely nothing to be to be happy about really so far. I mean they were probably unlucky enough to get the chuckey's against the pies, but yet after that too horrible performances and then they did want to get the winning it'St Melbourne, but obviously Melbourne were rubbish. So you take that with a grain of salt. and to me they're their pressure and ball movement has been has just been lacking, and that was that was their strong point over the last three years. And their forward line, Jack Ray, well, don't know what's up with him, but he's he's struggling a bit out there at the moment. So yeah, stiff grander, yeah, look the losses to the hawks of the saints. They were just clearly outford in those games. Use that term a lot, but it's interesting to see it's games, Alfred. It's interesting to see which team does present themselves as the dominant one, where the other team can come back or they just roll onto the back and carpet. But yeah, the Tim don't see turn around against Melbourne. Obviously their most recent performance was a win. Still wasn't the Richmond we all know and those other two losses were definitely UN characteristic. They went richmond like they just saints and Hawks, just absolutely beaten with pressure and the drive forward the ball. And then obviously Richmond look like they'll playing their two nineteen salves. But yeah, it'll be interesting to see how to go with the sixty hour six main ounce and obviously moving it out north. So yeah, it's been okay. I think the given the win was the most recent performance, I think my maybe boost my rating little bit from what would have been had it have been one of the earlier rounds. But it's been obviously a bit black luster. But they did make up for it's...

...a little bit against Melbourne. Yeah, so, Pilch, you're going to match grender's five or gon grinder. would be dreaming if I was, if I was the matches five. I mean lost two matches, that I know, but they were shocking against the hawks. They were just held in the first past. To be fair to Saint, the saints played off their heads. They put them away, but less stuck one up them. The few SNAID. Yeah, I've based on the fact that raginning premiers premiership favorites going into the season. I've given him a three out of ten because that they're so far below that at the moment. Really Yeah, I'm going to go with a Ford not much better, obviously. Yeah, they got absolutely killed against the hawks. I just remember watching that first quarter. Had A fair bit of money on them. Has Yet. Yeah, exactly. Just the reigning premiers dire really expect that from them, especially because it's Richmond and I've been very available of how they've played and how they their play style. But to see him come out like that only few games after the grand final, merely a few months after it. But still, yeah, four out of ten. Honestly, would have been a three or even lower, if they're right, if the win wasn't their most recent performance because it did show signs of them coming back to the usual self. But yeah, I'm going to step the for yeah, so they've got the swannies and the kangars coming up next, so probably two games. Well, especially before the seasons started, that they would have penciled in as wins. But never know. Now, especially with a lot of players not going up to the hub for them, if you had to give it best player, Roe, who are you going? I'm actually yeah, I'm actually very glad that my one decision was want to buy our grinder, a favorite fan of Richmond. But yeah, I've gone with Nick Costen. He's always called a wash, just the way drives a ball out of that back line. And the inset marking as well. It's got press you, is noted but lost in gets it for me. Peach. Yeah, look, I agree with throwing grander. It's got to be someone out of their back line. Their midfields just been getting put into the ground each week and their four lines being atrocious. Dusty Martin hasn't got going at all. But I've actually I've actually liked what butch a hooly shown, butcher Hulie has shown so far. I think he was best on against the pies. He's had a few good games, so I'll give him the chuck. He's there and I think he was stiff, stiff not to come away with it with a Norm Smith in two thousand and seventeen. So I'll give him the chum. It's just so rella. He's not going upsy. No, the's not. He's just had a baby, I think. Yeah, big, big loss there. So now we move on. We're down to don't know. Well, I brothers doing outside. I think he just came back from the park or something, but he's trying to distract me. So final three sides. We've got the SWANNEES, the weigels and the Doggies, the one Nabal and swermission. So we'll just see see what we're feeling about these boys. The swannee's Pihch. You're pretty fond of the swannies, aren't you? So well, what did you think of their their footy this month? Yeah, look, I do. I do like the swannies. I've been a big have a bit of a man crush on Josh p Kennedy over the last few years. But yeah, I don't really. I don't think they were expected to do much this season. They've been. They've been stiff with our buddy being out, obviously, and losing their their main tap rapping in in the big Sam Nay Smith. But Yeah, look, I think they've been about part. They've shown glimpses, you know, put up fights against decent sides. But what are they? One and one and two, I'm pretty sure, since the well, one and three, so since returning. So yeah, about part of me on the SWANNIS row. What are you? I can yeah, I usually see the swanties is one of...

...those since, obviously the grand finals. I see them as a bit of an nothing team, like north forwards to Romanum and which is why I think their last two weeks they've been bad losses and they've gotten a bit under the radar. Obviously they've played the underperforming eagles and got just smacked, and the dogs as well. Bruce obviously just did a number on them. They've lost all their tools apart from Haye McLean, who is quite into primary school with maybe kicked nine goals to nine goals in a school fully match against Bowie north. I think. I'm not. It's three. Yeah, I spend the first quarter counting because I stopped watching broke, so I'd to count the corner. So I gave him a few extra mons. We can kick a few more, but worth Gig I've ever heard. Yeah, looking back what it it's probably looks like I was not this frong point in the team, but obviously with our buddy, their Ford Line isn't isn't really firing. Obviously PAPI's stab at apart from that, you know will, how you would still not if the area blaky. Obviously in his second year, but likes to find himself up a bit of the ground. And I don't even know who else they've got to me us. And Yeah, he and Mills. I think we're just waiting on them to really take that next step becoming just absolute elite to the competition. Obviously, hen he possesses that men's talent and you often see that. But I just think I just got a couple, one or two more steps to take before they reach that elite level that they can really carry the Swan's yeah, it's been it's been are for me. Those last two weeks haven't looked promising to big, big glasses. Well, rating he giving them row. I'm going to give him a four out of ten yeah, not much else to say. And the best player probably Luke Parker. Still love what he's doing in the midfield. Him and Kennedy are often carrying the team in the midfield. Is Rack Up, like you know, fifty sixty touches between him and I just love got Parker's goal sense in the midfield. It's the way he's able to just athletically move forward and just bomb them from forty five. It's often see term into goals. But yeah, Parker and four hundred ten for me, Pilch, what about you writing in best player? Yeah, look, I've given them a six out of ten. That may be partly due to the the man crush I have on the swan. He's talk about second favorite teams. But yeah, the MVP. I'd like to give a shout out to Olie Florence. I think he's I think he's been quite promising this year. He's starting to come along, getting a lot of touches in midfield. But yeah, agree with Rory. Hard to go past Luke Parker. I think he's the only remaining player to have a super coach ton in every round of the season so far. He's flying under the radar there, but nice don't he's definitely been their best player. He's every touch he gets he has an impact with it. So yeah, Luke Parker, fair enough. Think. Think the Papley's been bit dog there. Happily's been good as well. But while as if none of us, I don't think any of I said but none of us said Pappily, for surprise Australian. That's I'll hop on that man's band wagon any day the week. Now on too, a bit of a well, they're they're probably similar level the SWAN's in terms of this month. But onto the eagles. They've had high expectations. I know I don't know exactly where I predicted them to come, but it was definitely in the top three. They've gone one and three. They got pumped by the Sun's pump by the line, pump by port and then Pump Swan. So a lot of pumping is basically the way I described their their month. PILCH. What are your thoughts of the Eagles Month? They yeah, well, obviously it's been. It's been subpart I mean we all know their home track bullies. They love playing over in Perth, which they haven't been able to do due to the hub. But to be...

...fair to them, they have played some good teams. I mean they were they were whacked by Brisbane and the power, but they've probably been the best two teams in the camp. So I mean not like not to worried there. And then they did rebound this week with her tidy win over the SWANNIS and we're not surprised me if they push for the top for this season, especially with the big stretch in perf coming up. But Yep, rolly Um. Yeah, obviously got smashed in those three weeks in a row and then obviously just tore apart this one's they've lost constants in their play style and there's a big example of that. Only was the when they play port. It was a clipper play where had I three of their players like it was Eligo. Was One maybe to Kelly, the other and someone else. But they've just the lack of running that they displayed in that game and porched run off their legs and you see in the week after Seelo breaking away from the midfield. So I think it was a big change. Once they came out of those few weeks they really thought we've got to do something about this. They've got a premiership winning team. We saw that in two thousand and eighteen, and a premiership winning midfield that just has been under performing so far. Obviously got tour pot by second game around, but they did. They have turned it around, I think, in that's one's game and obviously the big stretching Western Australia later in the season. But yeah, it obviously hasn't been great, a great start. But like Richmond, I think their most recent win does show a bit of promise. I think it was hard fought by them. I think they will obviously bounce back. Their list is too good to suffer like they have been the past couple of weeks. Yeah, so this weekend they play Adelaide in Brisbane and then they go back home and they play what is the way? Is it called the Western Derby? Is that what it's cool that, yes, the worst of the out of they just died. And then so they're two matches they should win, no doubt about that. They will go into those is heavy favorites and then all of a sudden there for and three with the stretch of home games to come. So, despite having a pretty shocking month, probably not looking too bad in the grand scheme. Of things for West Coast. If you hello, are these raids going to be pilch? Yeah, well, I've looked at what I've written down here and I've written down a five out of ten, but I'm changing that too. I'm changing that down to a for because I main I they've played good sides, but they were they were pumped and I think the shorter quarters is probably not helping them out of all the teams in the comp the most because of their, you know, possession, kicking mark play style, they tend to tight try and tie teams out in the in the longer format. So not helped there. So yeah, I'll got four out of ten. Row what it would they you I'm going to go lobed with an asterisk and go through out of ten, but I definitely expect that to improve, especially in the coming weeks. Obviously two really win all games and the stretching Perth at the moment I think of three out of tense. Fair. I know they're obviously played some quality sides, but as a premier ship winning team in two thousand and eighteen and with the list they've got, they've got one of the best midfields in the calm and I've also got an elite defense. I think it's very underrated. You can't be you know, you can't be getting dominated like that in games and St lack of efforts not except fool. I think three out of tempts fair, but I think he's definitely going to improve in the coming lays. Yeah, yeah, so, although not a great month for the Eagles, I don't think it's disastrous for them. I think there's seat in hopes. There's still certainly alive and definitely a chance of the premiership, although all be a slow start. Final side we've got. When big maybe they pay mail. I've been waiting on this man. Who might a man here? Rolly, all right, I'm three. Wait gone go on. Well, after one. I don't know will but I've he's...

A to entsy one. Brad Shepherd, gap bread shepherd. Well, that is at the way. While he was talking, I thought he had gone a smoky other than Hich, thinking Roy was going to go shepherd, I think. But yeah, Um, I think. I think I've snubbed gaff a bit here because he's he's got one of the best work rates in the COMP's been racking them up and he's definitely been one of their best players. Shot out to Natt Nuey as well. I think he's a huge reason why they're midfields considered one of the best, because he just gives them first use at pretty much every stoppage. Although what else does he bring to the table apart from apart from being a great tap rapping? But yeah, for me that. But Brad Shepherd's been by far their best defender and he's been he's been consistent this year. Against the power it was by far their best player and yeah, he's racking in like thirteen marks, locking down, locking down, however, he's playing on. So Ye, I'M gonna go Brad Shepherd one once again. Pillach, I don't reckon many people know what you're talking about there, but with what very BBC. It's what he's talking about. Right, all right, it's very long. Quickly from that, now I've got a I've got yeah, gaff. I think the lack of effort from their bed field previous weeks. Obviously she's current was carry bitch of an injury. YEA, it was under performing Kelly's, it's fair to say UN performing a new club. Gaff just sort of carrying a tet. The carrying the midfield, especially in the hard losses in fags in both of my Super Crod fants team. So he's and he's been good for me so far. Has Been Consistent. So I've got to go gaffee. And Yeah, obviously brave shepherd's a honorable mention, though. Yeah, yeah, also shout out to Andrew Gaffney having a having a pretty good right hook on him. Yeah, good dogs should have been suspendedful life. For a second I thought you were talking about the umpire, Umpire, Chris Gaffney. All right. Now, finally, we've got the DOGGIES. To be fair, I know it's early, but a lot of the teams have had up and down months and it's fair to say the DOGGIES FIT that bill. Once again, I wrote you what if you made if they're they're footy. Um, yes, ince aground two, when they been by the saints, they have flown under the radar. Of It. I think I'd lost everyon is saught archaics could be another hangover season for the dog since their premiership, but they flown under the Lord radar. Three big wins against the giant swans and north. Obviously Bruce showed that here what he's capable of. On the weekend obviously was under performing a bit, maybe because he was playing second fiddle to Norton, likes to be that main toll forward, as he did the saints, and they what you notice a lot with dogs. Have always got a plenty of options for goals. You see a lot of their players, not just their forward line, chipping in for a one or two goals, which if you're talking about the Swan's might be being an issue because like their fall line doesn't perform and then you don't see many other gold kickers. Is usually as pappling all them. But the dogs do have a lot of those sort of ranging halfbacks in midfielders that do offic of to chip in. Then you've seen that recently in the past three weeks. But yeah, round through they were out play, but it was round too. It's about a month ago now. So I think they've been good. They find under the radar a bit. So it's been good from the dogs since piled what about you may yeah, same thing. I mean they were sitting, I think they were last, with a percentage of about forty three. After they're after they were whacked by the sailors but yeah, since then they've been you can't really fault them. I mean they've put away they put away the giants, which is really good to say, and that's despite a couple of key injuries to the to our Norton and the content tested handball specialist Joss Dunkley, which destroyed my super coach teams. I'm feeling about that. But yes, yeah, so the last three weeks they've...

...been real good. So I'm actually I'm expecting them to push for definitely well into the top eight this year. Yeah, Prom promising last three weeks for the doggies. I don't know who you're going to go for the MVP, but buzz link is a serious footy fighter. Most of the attention he cops is because like his hair and stuff like that, being goodlooking bloke, but he knows how to find it and he knows how to use it. But, Rowy, who are you going for best player and what are you rating the doggies month? I'm gonna give him a seven out of ten. I think I've been good. I think that lost the saints was Arcam at some of those hours, as might show up a couple of times in the rest of the season. I hope they prove me wrong because I do like the dogs. I'm not going to give it to Bas linka because I tack him for home the ball and you're right, and I'm never ever going to acknowlede him a good place, since I was a stick back then and that should never happened. So I'm going to give it to our consistent before. He's been shocking for me in super coach, but still. I just I didn't know who to pick for the dogs. I'm going to go Jack mccraig just because he's always consistent. Racks a lot but he doesn't do a lot with it, but he always looks composed of the ball. I will bomb had that one awesome game against the swans with apartment that hasn't done much things. Copts a bit of attention of these. He mainly the giants game, but I'll give it some a crae just because I always love watching MC cray players always composed and he's at the top. Played it. Team like Melbourne needs in the midfield. And Yeah, yeah, yeah, agree with the bonds. Only had one good game. Mccraye has been consistent but probably underwhelming to his normal standards. So and then basilinks. Concussion has probably snubbed him here. But I've actually gone with big Tim English, although he doesn't he doesn't give them first use very often there. They're elate. Midfield Group has to normally shock the taps, but he's been racking up me. He's been having a huge impact. He's been absolute star so far. He's I think you had twenty five disposals the ends to swanny's, taking into set mark's good kick on him as well, and I think he'll be. He'll definitely be a star in a few years time, bit like big Maxi gone, although not as tall. But yeah, Tim English, Ko Daniel's been good as well. She had so shout out to him. But yeah, I do like my Ruckman. They're enough. I don't know you guys think about this. I watched them a couple times as mother. Actually Thought Ed Richards had bounced back a bit. I thought he was very underwhelming last year after a good first year. But if I'm looking at the stats now, doesn't really look like arm that now narrative is correct, but who knows? But yeah, I got a stick up. Hello rang, it looks lot like you on the field me. He's very noticeable out there on the play party. AFL football, or is though he's saying Roy. Yeah, exactly that. No, that's what I can get. Things the kind of training kicks and the red head look like. But that's all a seen. Teams done and dust it. We got their combined. I think it took US almost two hours, but we've done it. So well done, lads. Any plans coming up for getting back into the swing of lockdown? I'm lying off Saturday. So A footy starts twelve thirty ends late night. Why does it sun the turve third? I don't know. Saints Freire's not thirty five and this is non stop footage to the end. So that night. So there's going to be a day on the couch. Yeah, basically that day. That's all it. Yeah, like our yeah, yeah, it was anything a foot he is about the only thing we've we've got going on at the moment. So I'll be watchinging every game, despite my super coach team being ranked about...

Sixtyzero in the world at the moment. But now I love the footage. I'll be that'll be the that'll be stopping me from being full depresso during lockdown or I can and a fair enough looking forward to this month of footy. Also looking forward to the return of test creet tonight. It sounds like I'm doing consor ship for cricket or anything, but not not quite at that level at this podcast. Yet we're not getting sponsored by a test cricket as a sport. But yeah, starts in two hours, so I'm very keen for that. Hope. Oh, I don't know who I want to bat first. I want Western east about first GM season? About yeah, take six Spion, Jimmy Hoop, you simply batting by city. Sibley batting by session to that would be last think. Either way, you know about who bats. is going to be like five weeks in the first session. So we'll be entertaining interesting. They'll be a few brown stains on the Western his top orders whites when Jeff Archer comes on the bottle. I reckon. Yes, there's every times watch test create between Englid Westerns us. Tonight it's dead set. Hopefully it's going to be in seating everything. Hopefully just get hopefully we've got big Chris Gaffney Umpiring, just triggering blokes us. Looking forward to that. If you are listening to this on Thursday and Friday. It's probably day two, a day three, but no, no, we over. Yeah, the game probably will be over day too by the cat last sittings for something. So yeah, once again, thanks for joining me, Lads. As always, thank you to the people who sent in their little videos for me and, yeah, thanks for listening. Thanks, I'm I'm being being a playdot. Always a pleasure, mate,.
