AFL Relegation, New Tennis Schedule & NFL Contract Holdouts - Episode 26

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Christian once again joins Hamish discuss the recent events in the sporting world including suggestions of promotion and relegation in the AFL, an updated tennis schedule and recent NFL contractual holdouts.

Cheese settle. Welcome back to thehonoraball podcast. Today is episode twenty six, once again joined by Christian pilchure. As you can see. Welcome to thanks right, good to be backagain. So we said this last episode. So I can't guarantee anything, butwe will once again be recording this and attempting to get it up toyoutube. With last time was a bit of a trial and everything and wetrialed and Erd. So hopefully this one, the guests and check turns out welland we get a youtube video up for you as well as the podcaston all the listing platforms. So just check out the social media platforms thatI'm sure we will let you know if it got up on Youtube or not. Otherwise we'll just have to try again another day. So today it's abit of a bit of a more relaxed informal chat. It's not on interview, nothing like that, but we're just going to be chatting about the worldsport. There's a lot more going on at the moment as there was maybea month ago. A lot of sports back, a lot of new isabout sports coming back has hit the hit the media this week. So whydon't we just start off talking about tennis. It's a sport we both dearly love. Yesterday, I think it was yesterday, they announced, well, earlier on the week there was rooms the US Open. We're still going togo ahead, and that led to a lot of our age from players andstuff like that. I know Nick Kiios took to twitter and just ripped theUSO from basically, but then they announced yesterday. I'm not sure who announcedit. I don't know if it was like the ATP or Dota or bothof them or just some Rando Geyser, but they announced the new schedule. So there's been a rescheduling. So at the moment the first seven weeks arelooking like this. So we've got the Washington open, which is a fivehundred, then we've got the cincinnating masters are so it's kicking off on theseventeen of August, then the Cincinnati Masters on the twenty four of August. Then we roll onto the US Open for spending from the thirty one of Augustto the fourteen of September. But then, interestingly, there's a two hundred andfifty on the second week of the US Open. So it's probably goingto be one of the worst two S of all time. But which on? That's kits bull, the offering open. Yep. So then we move intothe clay season, which is only a month, which is, tobe fair, not that dissimilar. It's usually pretty short, but it's likeit's kind of like the grass season this year, just a couple weeks. But Um, yeah, we've got a fifty. Then we've got the mathMadrid masters, the Rome Masters and then the French Open. So it's apretty jam pack two months of Tennis. You've got three masters and to Crenslams. So all up you're looking at like, I don't even know, like eightzero points or something to play for. Rafa is defending both slams, sopretty big two months for him. And then this wasn't so much highlighted, but I'm on the ATP world to wikipedia page. There's like a scheduleright through to the twenty three of November. But that's basically looks like just thenormal end of season schedule with like Shanghai masters, Paris Masters and thenthe finals. So yeah, what are your sorts on that? May Well, I think there will be a lot of mixed reviews from the players onthat. But obviously as a as a tennis fan, I'm keene for itget back up and running and I think it's good that they're not just skippingthe clay season, because I'm the clay seasons pretty important. So it's goodto see Roman, Roman, Madrid and the French Open, obviously. Yeah, the Seccernados, if the world, will be pretty pleased with that stetSeptember schedule. Probably they'll probably just tank the US Open to make sure theydon't go on like a cheeky fourth run, fourth round run or something, sothey can go win the Austrian Open. Well, what are you as adie hard Novak Fan? How do you feel about it from his pointof view? Well, the fact really isn't defending much at the French andthe US is a good thing, so I think. I think he's,barring any major issues, who'll probably finish...

...his number one this year, basedon that and because they're freezing the points for Wimbledon as well. Yeah, exactly. So I can't really see a well where he doesn't finish number oneor a world where he probably doesn't snag one of those two titles, oneof the two slamps. Yeah, or he might just do the classic Novakjust win all the masters. Now he win the here, will the US, and he win the French as well. Well, that's such insightful analysis afriend. But yeah, I will be interesting to see. I thinkthat five hundred in Washington will legit be like the best five hundred of alltime because that's like the only official warm up tournament before the since Aunti Masters. So that should be pretty, pretty spicy to actually, I love somegood cooks and good players will go there and it usually is pretty big anyway. They are the skinny. Yeah, it'll be interesting though, because, well, rodgers not playing. He is. Yeah, he's out, opted toget surgery and he'll be back next year. Then you've got the likesof Ki US and stuff right ranting on twitter. So it'll be interesting tosee if anyone actually how many people do go? You would think a lotwould go because there's so many points at stake. It could be a careerdefining moment of to go or not to go, basically like it. Ifyour rank fifty, I don't think you can physically pass up on the opportunityof three masters and two slams, because you could see yourself rank like ahundred at the end of the season. If, yeah, you don't passup on that offer. So if you don't take that off or up.So the only man I could see not going is is curios could. Yeah, he doesn't give two shits. But everyone else, everyone else, asyou were saying before before the Potty, they can't really afford not to gobecause they'll just they'll miss out on points and money. Yeah, so willbe interesting because I'm sure a lot would be opposing it. But the thingis, I know it's America the first month, and America's like probably theworst location in terms of coronavirus at the moment. That's like they've had twomillion cases or something. But and they don't seem to be slowing down anytimesoon. But it is the seventeen of August, so there's two months.Hopefully the rates starts to die down a little bit, especially in the UnitedStates. Yeah, I'll be interesting, because what have I said about spectatorso far? Just thin right, there's nice. Yeah, I'm pretty likeninety enough central. There's nothing and they can only have a testing the playerscan only have like one or two plays in their box as well. Yeah, I'd say it will be something like the UFC, where you're limited tolike three in your corner. Yeah, and that's that's all you can dealwith. The bigger, the bigger players have been complaining about that aspect aswell. Yeah, but I think it's yeah, they should got it actuallyhad a cop that. Yeah, well, the rest of the tour like isfinancially limited. That anyway. It's pretty weird though, because like thefirst like four countries they're going to will like genuine covid hot spots, likethey're going to the United States, then Spain, then Italy and then, apart from France, then after that they go to China. So, like, I know it's just the way the tennis scheduled rolls, but like, yeah, it's pretty bizarre the countries they've chosen to go. Like they couldhave, I don't know, picked it Australia. Well, we've had oursummer, but, you know, could have picked somewhere where maybe there wasless risk or whatever. I should just replay the Australian opens it. Andso I'm going in New Zealand. Yes, yeah, know, so that's allpretty exciting really, although I was saying it's a long way away it'sit's less than two months. It's like buddy tolly for it. It's lessthan sixty days, I think. So that's pretty exciting. Yeah, aswe said, no fans, but I'm sure I'll go ahead and I'm notsure if all the players will be happy with it, but as we werestaying before, I think they're just going to have to copy it. Soexcited times. It's going to be a jam packed couple months for the tennisbut yeah, looking forward to that. Now we roll on. So recentlythe Premier League and Lolliger have returned. Have you caught any of it?Mate, I have not watched any of it, but I've seen the resultsof the Premier League and placed it at our few few kicky bets here andthere. But yeah, I'm king for the Premier League many days, sayingtonight Liverpool Nice. Yeah, at the time of recording, there's only beentwo matches so far, but pretty interesting...

...stuff happened in both. We hadthe Sheffield Villa the goal line technology glitch where the goalkeeper blocked the cameras fromlike the goal line technology working basically, even though it was clearly like thirtycentimeters over the line of them. We had David Luise just being spend himself. He's, yeah, let's like not to be racist, but like it'sjust so. It's just a typical Brazilian center back. Like he's got skill, he's got flair, but probably not the most rigid, solid defender thatyou can trust. But yeah, I guess that's probably a bit stiffed toI got silver and some of the other lads, but Louis is starting tobecome an absolutely laughing stock in the football world these days. Yeah, itwould not surprise me if he ends up in like Saudi Arabia or China nextseason or goes home to Brazil, because I'm not really sure what arsenal wouldget from keeping him, and I like I think he is. He wouldwant too much money. Yeah, they're riding a smaller pod to find himget rid of an enough aging now he must be like on the wrong sideof thirty, so can't really seem much of a future for him. Butyeah, Eric Garcia, he's sankfully, all right, but he was ina horrific clash with Edison. Edison came out to head the ball and Garcia, as you would say in Footy, went back at the flight and gotabsolutely smacked and got he was like knocked out, got stretched off the fieldand had to go to hospital and stuff. So but it's pretty scary for youngman. But he's fine. All over twitter, like he's photos areup. He's all good, which is a relief. But the man cityintensity, I know you didn't watch it, so we can't touch on it toomuch. For Mancye were actually pretty good. Arsenal didn't really. Theylooked pretty weak, like it was almost just a matter of time the wholematch and then city was going to score. They were just toying with them. But yeah, as they do. Yeah, I don't know this, like we obviously have a huge lead, like twenty two points or something, but I don't know, just watching the city, it is maybe a littlebit scared. Can they can they even physically? We haven't clear. Haveany how many? How many are points? Do they have to drop? FEWTO CLINCH IT? Well, the leads currently twenty two. I thinkif they lost yesterday and we beat Everton, I think we would have clinched it, but now it's looking more likely that we're going to win it.So I think we probably I think we play Everton and poace, but it'slooking more likely that we win in the match after that. But yeah,we know it's there. It's obviously dependent on man cities results. But yeah, and then my lega came back. I only call one game so far. A lot of it because the PLAM and the stuff they're playing during theweek to catch up the Games. A lot of it's at like because they'reit's during the week. So then I can played like twelve mid day. They're going to play night, so watch like at three am, five amfor us, which isn't really watchable. So any seven a MS? Idon't think so. No, I think so. But yeah, maybe it'sto do without the turnaround. They don't want the players to have like alate match. Other yeah, I don't know. But yeah, I don'tthink there's been seven am is. Barto Madrid of just been dispatching people andI saw out like co scored five against us so soon in this morning.Felix J'll feelix good to but UM, yeah, I've been caught too muchof that. It's pretty dull league actually. This year looks like bustling loan iskind of just going to cruise in front of Reale the whole way.But yeah, and then buying claimbed to the boomers league of the other day. So congratulates then. We were kind of teams a little bit this yearwith a dream like title run of life, secret, dormant but once again disappointingkind of hate, like it's always a little bit of it left downwhen the big dog wins. Yeah, especially everyone's sick of buying. It'sbeen a one more time long vent has. Yeah, it's just like, yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the eighth in a row. Think they haven'tlost since like two thousand and twelve when dormant won it. But yeah,so that's about it in the football world, or soccer as we say down here. But also the super rugby returned super run. Well, it's gota weird name now, like the super rugby a, a Toro or something, because it's just the New Zealand teams doing a little round robin thing becauseAustralia is not ready to go yet and South Africa's not either. So yeah, it's going to be tough for them. I don't know what they're going todo. I don't know if they have long term plans of getting theLeague finished, or they're just going to...

...split up into their own countries andjust have an Australian champion, New Zealand champion, South African champion. Butdid you? Did you watch any of Sun Day's match? I'll saw acouple of the results and I watched a little bit of the Blues Blues Hurricanesmatch between the Barrett brothers was pretty decent match. Blues looked pretty good andthey were getting stuck into burden when when the hurricane supports are yeah, I'mreally yeah, heised himself. He loved it and then Dan Carter was thewater boy, which he was bit humorous to see how olds stand card. Now you must be like thirty six, he must be to me. Yeah, but now as weird saying Burton Barrett, like I don't watch much super rugby, but it's weird seeing Burton Bart in a different uniform. He saidlike, I don't know, seven or eight years at the hurricanes, butdid the blues and they wrong. We shall feel like so is interesting tosee that they look in the goods this season. Yeah, I can't rememberwhat the other match was, but I thought they are the highland, isn'tchiefs, as point in it. Yeah, one point in it, and itwas just it was close to the whole way, like the lead wasswitching every five minutes. Was a greg here. So the Crusaders must beup this week because unfortunately there's only five teams in New Zealand, so eachweek one team's got to take the by. But I'm sure the New Zealand isare just happy to have rugby back. Big Crowds as well. Yeah,it would be weird, while saying the masses in the stands. Yeah, it's so long, but it's to say they're again like Twentyzero plus, which is pretty rare for super rugby. I'll say it's to my dad andmy brother, like I do not get one. New Zealand is in thesuper rugby like, which is wish for them, like surely it's not financiallybeneficial to come to Australia unlike, play these rubbish teams and just get like, well, like, I feel like they would just be better off justthrowing everything into a national competition. It used to be a lot closer, though, back in yeas to be a lot closer. Like the news, every things wouldn't even win every year out well, the brumbies were awesome inthe two thousands and then the reds. The reds were good as well hereand the warriors from like two thousand and eight to two thousand and twelve andthen, as you said, yeah, war are tires were good like twothousand and fifteen, but at the moment they're all kind of pretty average.Yeah, like it must be very financially tough to travel to South Africa, travel to Australia and like I can't imagine when they host like the blundies orsomething that's drawing a huge audience from their own fans. So it's kind ofweird. But and it's the same in you like there's a league called likethe top fifteen and Scotland. I can't remember all the teams, but there'slike five different countries and they just put a few teams into it. Andlike Scotland there's only like two professional teams, even though like the country loves rugbyunions. So rugby just pis are sport, I'll be honest. Yeah, but that's about that. So the super rugby will be on again thisweekend. Hopefully we'll catch some of it and RL and AFL. How isthe match last night that the footy. Well, obviously, to those whowatched the tags were horrible. Looked a little bit off as well. Butall snap, it's time time the hawks. They came back after they're embarrassing losslast week and looked the goods. So should be an interesting season becausea lot of teams have already shown some inconsistencies. So hard to pick theour the season the top. I was so think, though, people goingtoo early, like yeah, that is true, because I did. Ican notice se no tags, like tags of crap, they're gone. It'slike it's one that. Yeah, I don't fight. I don't buy intothe no dusty, no tags, rubbish. He's won. He's one player outof a squad of twenty two. He's it's not going to make asixty point difference. One pier and like a team on to rub one matchingaround never runs. Like all they've lost the plot this year. Geez.Yeah, and yeah, I think they would just go way too early onthe first couple rounds, like if you look at the roosters in the NLand now were own three and then round four they just came outs back toteam sixty, kneel and now they're like the most informed team in the compso people just need to take everything with a grain of salt in the firstmonth, I think. Yeah, agreed...

...a great on that. Yeah,so that was the AFL. Easy win. Shared that to screamy. Jack Scimsure late laid in. Hopefully keeps his spot. Friend of the show. He rapped him off halfback, scream screamy did. He's a good player. Like he may only get like twelve foot touches the game, but whenhe when he gets, he's usually pretty skillful with these touches. He is. He's got a good kick. Yeah, and then the Nur last night,Broncos once again losing on a Thursday night. I think it might bethree in a row that they've lost on Thursday night. Getting a bit sickerthan being the problem time evening matches every freaking week. Yeah, I don'tknow. It's just like we know they have a lot of fans, alot of TV audience, but just give someone else a crack. Jesus Christ, is so boring to watch. I'm about because coming for they went. They won their first two games before lockdown and then, yeah, they've goneon for since. So, Oh, yeah, worrying times there that Ifeel bad for them that they had like five, four or five injuries andsuspensions at one point out of their starting thirteen. So but yeah, Idon't know whether what's going on there. There's rumors that Benjie Marsh will notrumors, I think. Some peep pundits and stuff have come out and saidthey should sign Benjie Marshall from the Tigers, who's not getting a game at themoment for us. But don't really want that to be honest. Ithink he should. Would you with the tags get something decent in return? There's no trades in Narl are really, but that's a genuine issue in inthe NL, like AFL, not so much because you can trade draft picksand stuff, but like I don't know how you do because you can't havea transfer fee because there's a salary cap and stuff. So it doesn't work. But it they're like yeah, you can just produce every like a greatplay every year and they just get bought, like they just go to another cluband you legit get nothing for producing that player. So it's pretty horring. Yeah, and the Tigers are like a really good producer of young playerslike this year we've probably going to have like three of the top five playersin the competition. So, but is there, I'm is there a draftor anything? Not. Now you just they assign you like your seven type. They're like Adam academies and things like. Yeah, there's like the eighteen teamsand stuff like. Yeah, most clubs have one of those or likea feeder, like we have a school and Gold Coast that we have likea connection to. All right, and then, yeah, we get likefirst grabs it players out of there or we just have a good connection withthem. But yeah, not to do it weird, but I don't knowhow they would do it. But there's just got to be some kind ofreward for producing players, because it's very doug yeah, exactly. Yeah, because like obviously, like Teddy. We produced Teddy and he's just gone fornothing and then Mitchell Moses gone for nothing. But well, I guess, Iguess it's on you to try and keep them. But yeah, Idrive and drival loyalty into him. Yeah, final thing before we probably get intothe main topic of the episode. AFEL relegation. Hawks President, JeffKennet. He's still the hawks president. I'm pretty sure. But Jeff Kennethere came out and said this week. He's very vocal man, Jeff Kennethe came out and said this week that they should be afel relegation. Andby this I don't think he means the AFL is the first division and thenyou bring in Vfl teams into the second division. I think he was moreinsinuating something like the English County Cricket System where YOU SPLIT The league into twoand you have like a div one with maybe ten teams, a dive too, with eight teams, and then maybe you bring in a couple teams,I don't know where from me. Maybe have a Tazi team come in,a northern territory team. I don't know what other expansion teams would be interestedin it. Well, Curson, personally I think that is the worst ideaI've heard all Yax like that. Well, just about what cut? What whatis wrong with? What is wrong with the AFL? And, likeyou, the thing is the top apart from like gold coasts, and they'rejust smashed out west coast anyway, like most of the teams in the competition. I like around them, mark eating for the eight. So I don'tknow, I don't I just don't agree with it at all. Yeah, and it's there's a salary cap. So...

...and that the salary cap in thedraft is legit made for teams just to go up and down all the time. So I don't know. And then it relegation, and that means allthe best players in the draft would be going into DIV to. I mean, I don't Y. Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me. LikeI think the balts residents and it's a bit of basic. He's been smokingsomething like you have to admit the DIV one masters be cool because they're worldreally right. Yeah, fibill for like top like finals matches, basically, but then dive to like yeah, I'm sure the club supporters would be stillbe loyal, but like half the fans would stop going for the team.Like yeah, if you're a car and casual and you're Intiv to, likethere's no way you're getting around it. You're going out to games, watchingthem just play other bad teams. Like there's just not much in it.I think I like the team. It's dive too would, I'm sure, would drop. Yes, they opposed to what they are now. So,yeah, I don't know what the whole idea of that is. People mightstart like being fans of two teams, one dive one team and one doveto teams. So I don't don't write the idea of that. Ever, there's just more issues, like, I know this is very minute, butthey have this issue in county cricket, like how well do you judge adive to performance? Like can a dive to play and make the all Australianteam? Like there's just steps of stuff like that where it's yeah, it'stough and then, if anything, you actually making the problem worse because nogive to player is going to want to stay to dive to club. Theywould always try and get a trade or something to a div one club.So if anything you're actually going to create a separation between a bunch of eightbad teams and ten good teams. But currently, with the current system, apart from Gold Coast and maybe Carlton, but they look to be on theup in the near future. There's not really been any team stuck down thebottom for for too long, Melbourne as well, but once again, youknow, they looked to be improved. Yep, see, yeah, I'mnot sure about that idea. But they've talked about in the Australian soccer fora long time and the difference there is that the a leagues not really likethe AFL is a successful business. Everyone gets around it, where the aleague not so much. So yeah, I would see like I would understandthe purpose of doing that in a league. But yeah, I don't know why. I like if it's not broken, like not really any need to dosuch a trip dramatic change to the way the league runs. So andbecause there's no obviously no draft in the I league. Yeah, so thatmakes it more feasible. Yeah, and yeah, I don't know. There'sjust it just wouldn't work and like it's just that it's not even likely really, it's just one person's idea that's just been shouted out. Really, becauseI fell to the care is, like it's a pretty traditional sport, likethere's not really many changes year to year. We're like not saying Anas better thanI fell anything, but they n Iros pretty like progressive and as wesaw with how like reckless law wasn't didn't turn out to be reckless. Butand I we're pretty like loose and how fast they came back and like NRL'salways changing heaps of rules and stuff, where afl they're kind of happy withthe game as it is right now. And Yeah, like fair enough tovery successful business, as we said before. So I don't see it ever evenbeing mentioned like in the board maroons and stuff like that. So,Jeff Cannet, hop on your whole hops hot off somewhere, brother. Allright, so the name discussion of today we're going to be talking about NFLcontracts. This is a pet pave of mind. Basically, this this topica rises every year at about at this time of year. NFL players theysigned these four year rookie contracts. So I don't know the INS and outsof the NFL contract system. The American contracts they're quite confusing because you canbe on like twenty million. You could get paid twenty million but only tenmillion goes the salary cap. Or you can be paid thirty million first yearand then the fifty you get twentyzero. It's a very confusing. But tothe core rookie contracts are about four years with like a fifth year option.Yea. What often happens is you get a superstar in their third or fourthyear playing on a rookie contract and in...

...a position like a running back oreven a wide receiver where your prime is pretty young, you're often in yourprime on rookie price, on a rookie wage. So, like you've gotPhilip Lindsay, who's probably arguably in the prime of his career. I thinkit's his third year, my bes fourth. He is only on seven hundred andfifty thousand dollars a year. Meanwhile you've got David Johnson, WHO's wayworse than Philip Lindsay. He's like thirty one or something. He's just casuallyearning like eleven million dollars or something that. So it's outrageous. There's got tobe a change because although each year the league sort itself out, theplayers eventually come back. They agreed it to their club, but as afan I'm sick at this every single year. Like you know, the case ofDal and cook this year. They Yep, yeah, one of theLeague's top running backs. He looks like he's pretty pretty confident on his hishold out. He doesn't want to come back till he gets a deal sortedit happened last year. Is Zeke. He, I think, missed thefirst game maybe, or he might have got it signed just a couple daysbefore. That's got. You got to find yet from Gordon Miss Three orfour weeks, I think, through holdout. And Yeah, it's done and becomea big deal. What do you what do you think about it?Well, I think at the moment, with our plays like Dalvin Cook's,franchises are starting to place a bit less value on the running back position andvaluing the the offensive line more. So I think they're getting less and lesswilling to pay running backs the big bucks. But yeah, as well as that, there's I think it's outrageous that players can just not play like that. It just shows those absolutely no loyalty to your to your franchise, thatthey're all they're all just doing it for money. Yeah, but yeah, after Dalvin Cook especially, he he does deserve a much bigger contract than whathe's on. Yet at the moment, be honest, I I take theplayers side on this. Like, as you were saying, it's pretty dogwhat they do. They basically hold the franchise by the balls and they're basicallylike, well, if you don't pay me, you don't have a runningback this year. Yeah, pretty dog but I think the last dance.I don't think you've seen it, have you not? Haven't yet. TheMichael Jordan, Scottie Pippen. He signed, I don't know, an eight yeardeal or something, on a rookie contract or very low paying contract.YEA, and by seventh eight season he was a top ten NBA player andhe was like the hundred and twenty five highest paid player. So and hehad like seven siblings to parents. They were from like the streets. Ididn't have much money at all. So he he held out and then heeventually left because they wouldn't resign his contract or something like that. Is itwas kind of confusing, but I don't know. From that that just kindof put into his perspective. It is pretty unfair on these players, likeI know we were saying they have no loyalty, but then you can alsosay the franchise doesn't have loyalty if they're not willing to fairly pay them.Yep, because even Alvin Kamara, he's on nine hundred and fifty thousand dollarsthis year. He's easily a top five. Well, arguably, yeah, he'sprobably a top five running back basically. So he does not deserve to beon that. And although it's likely that someone that good is eventually goingto get extended resigning or they're going to go somewhere who pays them well likethat off chance is just frightening for a player that they do their acl orjust lose it this year and then no one wants to pay them the bigbucks and then it turns out they've just played three years at a high levelof NFL but they haven't earned a sustainable lip wage from it. So it'sdefinitely a tough issue, I think. Obviously they're not going to look atAustralia to sort this out because they don't even know Australia exists in the UnitedStates. But they've got to do something like the AFL like I've never seena whold our NFL ever. Yeah, and I do think it's less likelyto happen in in a game with more players, because the NBA there's onlyfive players on the court, so one or two players can have a reallydominant impact. And then the NFL, like a quarterback, running back, wide receiver, they can buy them saying I'm not going to play. Theycan like change the game, where if I don't know from Port audelaide. If Brady but goes, I'm not playing. Yeah, it's like you're right, sweet, he'll be on his right, he'll be on his rights cree agency. So it is hard to compare. But the like the rookie contracts arejust way too long. Like you...

...shouldn't be able to sign a forcontractor shouldn't be a thing. Like you should be able to sign two yearsin Matt X, I reckon. I'm pretty sure the AFL it's two yearsand then you could resign whenever you want. Yeah, so like, I don'tknow exactly, but I think been king. I think he resigned likethree months into is the first season. But yeah, they've got a sortout something because especially the running back, the running backs of the most affectedquarterbacks not so much because they probably to a they're forty yet well good ones. So they they're like second, third and fourth contracts are ridiculous, wherethey're earning twenty million plus a year. But even like garden, the Minshew, he might not be a start ever again after this season and he's rollinginto this year is a seven hundred thousand dollar player. So they're definitely bettersort this out because especially as a fantasy coach, but fan and human like. It's starting to Piss me off because this happens every single season and it'sjust like we're going nowhere, like nothing, no solutions being thought of, noone's thinking long term. Everyone's just going a case by case. Shouldwe pay him? Should be not? So yeah, I definitely think somethinghas to take place. The only thing is, without being main like thenI fell, they're pretty like noxious. Their big business. They don't reallycare if a players like filling ripped off or whatever. Yeah, so it'sgoing to be tough to like convince them to do something. But that andit's happening in a lot of sports, like, I know the UFC.I know you don't know much about the UFC, but the UFC you signa deal and instead of years, it's fights. So you can sign afive, five fight deal for five hundred thousand fight and then your heads justgot offend holding and often holding in some smirks at your hands, dark yourcameras. Anyway, that's absolute rubbish, potty. Pretty content right there forthe listeners. Yeah, so it's like five fights, you get five hundredk fight and then after your fifth, fifth fight, you can re negotiate. But what's been happened, happening a lot recently, is the first twofights of a contract they'll do really well, they'll like saw in the rankings, they will become global stars and then they try and renegotiate. They're like, I'm not fighting for five hundred thousand, I want two million. And thenthe UFC this goes. Well, your contract says you have to havethree more fights at five hundred thousand, and then they're like, well,I'm not doing that and I want more, and they kind of just do itcase by case as well. So similar to the NFL. So it'sseems to be an issue in I don't know if it happens in the NBAfrom honest, but seems to be an issue in the NFL. Fell Idoubt it happen as much in the NBA because, similar to like quarterbacks, they played pretty long careers and stuff like that. But yeah, definitely needsto be addressed. It doesn't affect the players who were taken early. Iknow Kyler Murray. He was like paid heaps last year, I'm pretty sure, and because he was the number one pick. But people who are takenlate later and turn out to be guns. They are. Well, like,I know it sounds ridiculous complaining about seven hundred thousand dollars a year, but when you consider like the market rate for what your job is is liketen million, fifteen million, it's pretty wrong. I think. How doyou how do you recommend can fix it? Well before that. It's another thingthat's stiff on the players in the NFL is that it's a lot ofit is luck, because with Zay, it was like the only good runningback on the cowboys list, so obviously that were going to give him acontract. But now cook they've got to like pretty solid back up running backsbehind him, and he's already had an injury history. Yeah, so he'sgot absolutely no leverage with the Vikings. Yeah, and and also the injurypast, like the injury pass, just makes it worse because both parties arelike more stubborn because they're like yeah, why we go out and renegotiate whenyou could do acl this year and never be able to play again? Andthen he is probably arguing the exact same thing, saying like well, Idon't want to walk away from the NFL career having only earned two million dollars. Yeah, in case I get injured. So the injury thing doesn't help. And Yeah, as you said, it definitely depends on your situation. But yeah, pretty much all the Situa it's a pretty dog. Yeah, and the broncos signing Melvin Gordon is so...

...dog to Philip Lindsay. Yeah,I honestly you can. Lindsay's a better pure running back than Melbourne. Butnow, now he would just not get on the park at all just becausethey're painting. Yeah, Gordon like eight mill yeah, but yeah, andright. Another thing is, if you see with Levm Bell, it also, like ruins a lot of players career because he sat out. He heldout in the twenty, seventeen or eighteen season with the steelers. They weren'twilling to renegotiate his contract or made his terms or whatever. I don't knowthe specifics. So he just didn't rock up and then he went to theonly place, or I don't know if he's the only place willing to signit, but the place willing to give him the most money or whatever hewanted. And he's gone to the jets and he looks like he's completely losthis ability. Yeah, and now one of like the League's best running backsin the last like five years. It's just like rotting at a bad team. So yeah, but that's definitely that kind of shows that the the offensiveline is probably more important. Yeah, and having an elite running back.Yeah, it's true. Even elite running backs can, and were sake one, he has games where he gets like no yards because he's just getting nothingfrom his own line. Yeah, and it's definitely I think it would bean issue in other positions, but I'll be honest, I haven't heard muchabout it in other positions. But yeah, as you said, the running backis the main thing because the players don't usually have much of the leveragebecause, yeah, when the time comes, yeah, the club, as you'resaying, for like Cook, they might just go. I'm pretty happywith Madison, if I'm honest, and like he looks to his assistant coachesand they're like yeah, sorry, brother, being the one of the best runningbacks in the League for one and a half years and you viewer paida rookie contractor and you can just caught. But yeah, it's very stiff.Yeah, so, like it's a tough one to fix because it's likea systemic issue. Like they genuinely have to change the contract structure of theNFL. But I honestly think if you just made it a rule the rookiescan't sign more than for your contracts, like, I don't see it waslosing. I see WHO's losing out there, because that way, yeah, Ijust don't get it, because the four year contract was probably actually broughtin to benefit the player, like so they were more secure, had moreguaranteed money, because they don't get paid in college. So, like theysacrifice a lot and at that point in time they haven't earned a single sentso, like they need to be secured for years salary. But then thetwo years, by changing it to to the player will benefit because then they'llbe able to renegotiate like in their prime and they'll have more leverage. Butthen if you look at it from another angle, I'm sure see, asI was saying, I don't know too much about this contract situation. I'dknow mainly only know the high profile cases and the INS and outs of thoseones. But I'm sure the four year rookie contract benefits a lot of playerswho don't get as much game time and might not get resigned by an NFLteam. Yeah, because, as I was saying, they don't get paidin college. So if they change it to two year contracts, someone gotpaid five hundred thousand for two years and then they got cut never picked upagain. Like that is pretty stiff. Yeah, but but then that's that'slife for like, if you're off to make it, you can't just begiven money. Yeah, I'm and I'm sure the four years thing, havingmoney guaranteed for four years, will make a lot of players just sit backand yeah and then unders and then they just won't become good. Yeah,or another way. That another solution they could look at. This is alwaysbeen heavily discussed, but they could make it legal to make money in NCAAand see double a. So because the colleges makes so much money from likeattendance, car parking, like there's home it, concessions, like there's somuch that, like they would get like a hundred and Tenzero to some gameslike it, and the players can't earn a scent in order to be eligibleto play in the college system. So that would probably be another way, because if they've been paid for four years prior to them coming in the NFL, then you know, like it will be less of an issue that likethey need to be paid more, if you know what I mean, afterthere for years, because they've already had...

...eight years of being paid if theyplayed the full four years of college. But then it's tough because the issuemight just rolled down to the college system and then there might be holdouts inlike the senior year of college. So yeah, I don't they but,as you were saying, at the end of the day, they just needsto be a bit more common decency from the players and the click. Likethe Franchisees, like the fat, the players need to just be like, well, I'll just keep playing for you because I'm under contract and that's whatyou're paying me to do, even if it's a little bit undersand then Iwould just have the fat. I'll put the faith in you that you won'tdog me. Yeah, like that's that's how it should work. But,like, I understand both sides of the coin and it's a tough one,but I really do think they need to fix the for you thing, becauseI'm for a lot of players well, like this holdout rubbish is just stupid. Get the see of it. Yeah, I agree, they should. Theyshould would definitely reduce it. Yeah. Well, saying today that Joe Mixermight be holding out as well. Yeah, mixings recently threatened the holdoutas well, but I think he's not. He's asking for less than what cooksasking for. So it's yeah, it's a bit he should. Yeah, just get it. I was looking before and mixings on like one anda half mill more on that boarding cook, is it right? Yeah, CooksCook was only on like seven hundred or something. Yeah, but thenyou've got just straight up shit running backs who aren't first string on like fivemeal. Yeah, like Gabonni Bernard. The bank was running bay back upto mixing and he's earning five times as much as him. Yeah, sothere's genuine like issues with the system. So like the whole rookie contracting theydo us need to be fixed. Yeah, but another thing is when these runningbacks get the big contracts, they often call. It seems like theyjust they sit back a bit, because David Johnky in as soon as hegot his. He turned into a Polish Kit. Same with our Melvin Gordonto an extent. We'll see what he does this year. But leve belllooks like he's done that? Yeah, exactly. Yeah, so not isit's a tough one. But then you can argue if they just fix thecontract thing, they won't happen because they'll get the big bucks in their thirdyear, which is arguably running backs prime. Yeah, because they're getting the bigbucks past their prime. Like, yeah, exactly. Only the verybest running backs is still good when they're like in their sixth and seventh season. Yeah, like the only one that comes to mind there's like like AdrianPeterson, frank or yeah, Lei Shan McCoy. They're like the only oneand they're like all time running backs straight like in the top ten rushing yards. So, yeah, it's like a genuinely cooked system and they definitely needto fix it. And also another difference between Australia and US say that makesit a bit tough. A lot of these players come from nothing. Solike, yeah, they need more money to secure their family and stuff, where like half the AFL gets drafted from the APS. So like they're notreally that desperate for money and stuff. But yeah, not. It's it'sa tough issue. It's always a bit hard to, you know, getlike ethics and economics merging. Yeah, because, like you kind of needboth sides to almost sacrifice their actual market value a little bit just to begood block. But yeah, it's it's never going to be possible to completelysatisfy both sides. Yeah, yeah, but then like there's thirty other thirtyone other teams in the League. So like, if you yearly believe you'reworth what you think you're worth, and arguably someone should come get you.But I guess I do have like if cook was to not play, he'dbe fined his entire yearly salary. Yeah, every week, there's no more. Each training session, yeah, get fine pretty much. Yeah, so'sno point doing that and that's why Melvine, that's why Melbourne Gordon came back.Yeah, because I think it's like week seven. If you don't cometo training before week seven, you get fined like your whole then your salaryor something. But then if it's before then you just get like a trainingby training. Fine. Yeah, because I'm pretty sure the charges didn't givehim his calf. I think they just said you can just leave next year. Yeah, but I don't honestly, I don't know why the Bronc it'sdid it, to be honest. Yeah, and then the contracts are just soaringevery year because it each year the holdout, like last years, hegot paid ridiculous amounts. Yeah, then...

...she had duck. Will Get paidamount in ridiculous amounts, and then they just keep getting expertentially more and more. So, like the holdouts are just going to be more common more common. So they definitely need to fix the rookie contract length. It's basically whatthis all boils down to. Or the COLDE system they get allowed them tomake some money from that. Yeah, anyway, we're looking forward to reala Scott tonight. Thin fell up. I am I and the I'm thefooty as well, and we begin on the royal a Scott. Yeah,I think I will be getting on well.
