AFL Relegation, New Tennis Schedule & NFL Contract Holdouts - Episode 26

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Christian once again joins Hamish discuss the recent events in the sporting world including suggestions of promotion and relegation in the AFL, an updated tennis schedule and recent NFL contractual holdouts.

CHS I welcome back to the Oterball podcasttoday is episode. Twenty six once again joined by Christian Pilcher, as you cansee, welcome Mer, tranks right good to be back gain. So we said this lastepisode, so I can't guarantee anything, but we will once again be recordingthis and attempting to get it up to youtube. Last one was a bit of a trialand erro thing and we triled and AARID. So hopefully this one, the guess incheck- turns out well and we get a youtube video. U P, for you, as well asthe podcast on all the listing platform, so just check out the social mediaplatforms and I'm sure we will let you know if it got up on Youtube or nototherwise, we'll just have to try again another day. So today it's a bit of abit of a more relaxed informal chat. It's on the interview, nothing likethat, but we're just going to be chatting about the world sport there'sa lot more going on at the moment, as there was maybe a month ago, a lotof sports ar back a lot of news about sports. Coming back, it has hit the hitthe media this week. So why don't we just start off talkingabout tennis? It's a sports, both dearly love yesterday. I think it wasyesterday they announced well earlier on the week there was rooms, the usopenwere still going to go ahead and that led to a lot of our rage from playersand stuff. Like that, I know Nick Curios took to twitter and I justripped the usofen basically, but then they announced yesterday, I'mnot sure who announced it. I don't know if it was like the ATP or Dota or bothof them or just just some Rando Geezer, but they announced the new schedule. Sothere's been a recheduling. So at the moment the first seven weeksare looking like this. SO WE'VE BOT The Washington open, which is a fivehundred, then we've got the cencinnating masters, so it's kickingoff on the seventeenth of August, then the Cincinani Masters on the twentyfourth of August. Then we wrel on to the US Open spanding from the thirty first ofAugust to the fourteent of September, but then, interestingly, there's a twnd.Fifty on the second week of the US Open, so it's probably going to be one of theworst to s of all time, but we tryn Ta kits Bool, Thet S, it open Yep. So thenwe move into the clay season, which is only a month, which is to be fair, not that dissimilar, it's usuallypretty short. But it's like it's kind of like the grassseason this year just a couple weeks, but I'm yeah we've got a two fiftey. Then we've got the Matt midrid masters, the Ro Masters and then the French Open.So it's a pretty jam pack, two months of tennis you've got three masters andtwo grands lamb. So all up you're, looking at like I don't even know likeeight tusand points or something to play for Raffer, is defending bothslams. So pretty big two months for him and then this wasn't so much highlighted bit ormon the ATP world to Wi Apedia page there's like a schedule right throughto the twenty third of November. But that's basically looks like justthe normal end of season schedule with like Shanghai masters, Paras Mastersand then the final so yeah. What are your thoughts on that Mer? Well, I think there w'll be a lot ofmixdreviews from the players on that, but obviously, as as a tennis fan, I'mcane for it get back up and running, and I think it's good that they're notjust skipping the clay season, because I'm the clay seasonis pretty important. So it's good to see Roman Romand, Madrid and the French Open. Obviously yeah the Chechinados of the world will bepretty plased with that sate September schedule, probably Theyl, probably just tank theUS Open to make sure they don't go on like a chicky, four run, four round erun or something so they can go when the Austran Open. What do you as a diehard Novat Fan? How do you feel about it from his point of view? Well, the fact really isn't defending much at the French and the US is a good thing,so think I think he's byring. Any major issues. Who'llprobably finish his number one this...

...year, based on that and because they'refhreezing the points for Wimwidon as well yeah exactly so, I can't really see a world where hedoesn't finish number one forign world T. I probably doesn't snag one of thosetwo titles, one of the two smams yeah yeah. He might just do the classicnoback and just win all the masters. Now he win hell in the US and Yo winthe French as well. Oh! Well, that's such insight for one elseas, a friendbut yeah now itull be interesting to see. I think that five hundred inWashington will the GITBE, like the best five hundred of all time, as that's like the only official walmuptournament before the sincanity masters, so that should be pretty pretty spicy.Actually I have some good gook SOMD. Good players will go there and itusually is pretty big anyway. The the STIDAR yeah it'll be interesting though, because well rub is not playing. Is Yeah he'sout olted to get surgery and he'll be back next year? Then you got the racksof Kirus and stuff right ranting on twidder, so it'll be interesting to see.If anyone asks how many people do go, you would think a lot would go becausethere's so many points at the Stak, it could be a career defining moment, ofto go or not to go basically like yea.If Youre rank fifty. I don't think you can physically pass up on theopportunity of three masters and two slams, because you could see yourselfrank like a hundred at the end of the season. If Yeah You don' pass up onthat off Ar. So, if you don't take that offer up, so the only man I coan seenot going is is Curios cuod yeah. He doesn't give two shits but e everyoneelse, everyone else, as you were saying before, before the PODY, they can'treally afford not to go because they'll, just they'll miss out on points andmoney. Yeah, so I'll be interesting, becauseI'm sure a lot would be opposing it. But the thing is, I know it's America, the first month and Americas, like probably the worst location in terms ofcoronavirus at the moment, e's like they've had two million cases orsomething but and they don't seem to be slung downanytime soon, but it is the seventeenth of August. So there's two months.Hopefully the rate starts to die down a little bit, especially in the United States, butyeah now I'll be interesting, because what have I said about spectated so far, Juiao Tis nose, yeah,I'm pretty like Ninein, I'm central there's nothing here and they can onlyhave Itristi. The players can only have like one or two s plays in their box as well yeah I'd,say it w'll, be something like the UFC, where you're limited to like three inyour corner. Yeah and that's that's all you can deal with the bigger biggerplayers have been complaining about that aspect as well yeah, but I thinkyeah they shoulde te should be hat a cop, tat, yeah. Well, the rest of thetwoar, like is financially limited that anyway, it's pretty weird, though, because, like the first like four countries, theyre going to were like genuine covidhot spots like they're going to the United States, then Spain, then Italy, and then apart from France, then after that they go to China. So, like I know it's just the way the tenoschedule roles but like yeah, it's bizarre. The countries they've chosento go like they could have. I don't know, picked it. Australia, well, we've had our summer, but you know, could have picked somewhere where maybe there was lessriskin or whatever. I should just replay the USTRAN and open anm Gong in New Zealand. Yes yeah now,so that's all pretty exciting. Really, although I was saying it's a long wayaway, it's it's less than two months: it's likebody tolmy for it yeah it'sless than sixty days. I think so. That's pretty exciting yeah, as we said no fans, but I'm surelgo ahead and I'm not sure if all the players that we happy with it, but aswe wer staying before, I think they'e just going to have to cop it soexciteat times it's going to be a jam packed couple months for the tennis butyeah. Looking forward to that now we well on so recently the PremierLeague and Laliga have returned. Have you caught any of it mate? I have not watched any of it, but I'veseen the results of the premuleg and placed it e Jicki bets here and there hut yea,I'm Cam for Premier League many Aes Nane tonight, Liwe Pul, it othe paceyeah the time of recording there's only been too matches so far, but...

...pretty interesting stuff Ho happened inboth we had the Sheffield villa the goaline technology glitch where the Yegoal keeper blocked the cameras from like the goalline technology working.Basically, even though Itas clearly, like thirty seemeters over the line, then we had David Lois just being Spenin Im soways yeah, let's like notto be racist, but like it's just s, it's just a trypical Brazilianseterback like he's got skill. He's got Flaire, but probably not the most rigid, solid defender that you can trust but yeah. I that's robly bit stifted Toagosilves and some of the other lads, but the ways is starting to become anabsolutely laughing stock in the in the football world these days yeah. Itwould not surprise me if he ends up in like Saudi Arabia or China next seasonor goes home to Brazil, because I'm not really sure what arsenal would get fromkeeping him and I like, I think he was. He would want too much money, yeah, they're, really OING TA, smaller Pob to Find Im get rid of man enough yeahaging. Now you must be like on the wrong side of thirty, so can't reallysee much of a future for him, but Yeah Eric Gassa he's, thankfully all right, but he was in a horrific clash with Edison Edison came out to head the balland Gassie, as you wourd say in Foorye, went back with the flight and gotabsolutely smacked and got. He was like knocked out, got stretched off thefield and had to go to hospital and stuff so, but it was pretty scary foryoung man, but who's far. All over tweit Ou, like hesphotos, are up Hes, orl good, which is a relief womancity insity. I know youdidn't watch it, so you can't touch on it too much for man, sy Wksyou, prettygood arsenal didn't really they lookedpretty weak like it was almost just a matter of time the whole match when myincidy was going to Scole that were just toying with them, but yeah as theydom yeah. I don't know this Ike. Weobviously Te'm a huge lead like twenty two points or something, but I don'tknow just watching the city. Inhis name be a little bit: scared can te. Canthey even physically a we haven't, haven't een? How many? Howmany points do they have to drop for you to Quinch it? Well, the leads currently, twenty two, I think. If they lost yesterday and we betEvirton, I think we would have clinched it, but now it's looking more likely thatwe're going to win it. So I think we probably, I think e pay,Everton and palace, but it's looking more latily than we win at the match. After that, but yeah you know, fare it's probviously dependent on man, citys results but yeah, and then me Rega came back. I only Calle one gameso far, a lot of it because the pram and stuffthey're playing during the week to catch op the Games a lot of it ot likebecause there it's during the week, so they're not going to play t like twelvemeday they're going to play night. So whatch AK at three am five am for us,which isn't really watch also any seven ames. I don't think so. No, I don't think so, but yeah maybe thet's Su with thatpheturn around. They don't want the players to have like a late match. Othe yea don' know but yeah, Idon't think, there's been seven ams, Barsor Matrid of just been dispatchingpeople, and I saw O Lipo scorled frive against us. The sooner this morning.Felix jolfee looks good too, but u yeah. I've been caught too much of that pretty dull league. Actually, this yearlooks like Bassli. Lon is kind of just going to cruise in front of rail thewhole way but yeah and then buyind climb to the bimers Leothe other day. So itcongradated, then we were kind of Tis a little bit thisyear with a dream like title run of Libe, Secret Dorman, but once againdisappointing kind of hate like it's always a little bit of it. Let downwhen the big dog wins yeah, especially everyone's sick of Bine, spend a one,mor IU, vents, yeah 'ssyeah, I'm pretty sure as thet at then arow thin. Theyhaven't lost since, like Wo Thousand and twelve, when Dorman won it but yeah. So that's about in the football worldor soccer as we say down here, but also the super rapbe returned supera.Well, it's got a weird name now, like the Super Ripe, be Aetoro soming, because it's just the new zeal and teams doing a little round robin thing, because Australiais not ready to go yet and Sout Africais not either so yeah, it's going to be tough for them.I don't know what they're going to do. I don't know if they have long termplans of getting the League finished or...

They'e just going to split up intotheir own countries and just Hav an Australianchampion New Zealand champion South African champion, but did did youwratch any of Sundays match? I saw a couple of the results and I watched alittle bit of the Blues Blues hurrcanes match between the BARROC brothers waspretty derside match, blues lookd pretty good and they were getting stuck into when, when the harcades caught sa Yeah unrea yeah, he jissed himself, he loved itand then Dan carder was the water boy which an he wasi bit humorous to seehow old stank artof. Now he must be like thirty six hemou eyeaudily yeah, but now is weird saying: BuronBarre like I don't watch much super ragbe, but it's weird Shingin BongBarit in a different, uniform ESA, like I don't know, seven or eight years atthe hurricanes but dis the boys, an what e Roi I feel like. So it was interesting to see that theylook in the goods this season there. I can't remember what the other matchwas, but I thought meys, the Hiland isn't Chafes Yeahs Poin in it yeah onepoint in it and it was just. It was close to the whole way like the leadwas switching every five minutes as a gragaer. So the CRUSADEIS must be upthis week because, unfortunately, there's only five teams in New Zealand. So each week one team's got to take the by, but I'm sure the new zealndess are justhappy to have ruggby back big crods as well yeah. It would be it weird saying themasses in the stands yeah, it's so long, but it's good to see. Yeah theyl gainlike twentytosand plus, which is pretty, are for Super Rompy I'll say it's to my dad and my brother, like I do not get one new zealnes in the Super Ugby like which is ish for them like. Surely It'snot financially beneficial to come to Australia and like play these rubbishteams and just get like well, I fout they would just be better afterthrowing everything into a national competition. I used to be a lot closer, though back in the Aisto be a lot closer like then iw am wouldn't evenwin every year. Well, the Bunbis were awesome in the two USANDS and then yeahthe reds. The reds were good as well yeah and the word Lads weregood fromlike two hous and eight to twothousand and twelve and then, as sell said YeahWar. Tis were good in like two thousand and fifteen, but at the moment they'reall kind of pretty average. You know like it must be veryfinancially tough to travel to South Africa, travelto Australia and, like I can't imaginewhen they host like the blumbies or something that's drawing a hugeaudience from their own fans. So it's kind of weird but and it's the same inyour like there's a league called back the top fifteen and Scotland. I can'tremember all the teams, but there's like five different countries and theyjust put a few teams into it and, like Scotland, there's only like twoprofessional teams, even though, like the country loves right, Beunion, sorighedinjust Itsaur, sport I'll, be honest yeah. But that's about that so su rugby will be on again thisweekend. Hopefully we'll catch some of it and R and AFL. How is the Matph lastnight, the fruity? Well, obviously, to those who watched thetags were horrible. Looked a little bit oft aswell, but Alne Atha, name time, the hawks they came back after their embarrassinglost last week and Looke to the goods. So it should be an interesting season, because a lot of teams have already shown some inconsistencies so hard to pick. Tme Ur the season, the top IASSO. Think, though people going to early like yeah, that is true. As I do ANA, I can no seeno tags like tyges of crap te Gon for like it's one that yeah I don't. Idon't buy into the no dusty, no tiges rubbish he's on hes one player out of asquat of twenty two. It's not going to make a sixty point, difference oneplayer and like a team Waer at one matchinground to never uns like a they've lost the plot this year, Jeez, yeah and yeah.I think they would just go way too early on the first couple rounds likeif you look at the rooshers in the NRL think they were owing three and thenround for thosjust came out pack to team, sixty NEL and now they're likethe most informed team, the COP, so people just need o take everything with a grain of salt inthe first month. I think yeah agread...

...agreed on that yeah, so that was the AFL easy win.Sheanna to Scrimy, Jack Scrim, Shar late laid in hopefully keeps his spotfriend of the show. He wracked himoff, half back schoon scremy did he's a goodplayer Lik. He may only go Lik told CT touch othe game, but when he, when he gets them, hesusually pretty skilful withhis touches. Heis just got a good kiy EA and then the no last night broncos onceagain losing on a Thursday night. I think it might be three in a row thatthey've lost on Thursday night getting a bit sicker than being the probem Timan evening matches every freaking week. Yeah, I don't know it's just like. Weknow they have a lot of fans a lot of TV audience, but just give someone else.A crack like Jesus Christ, is so boring to watch a e Bos Oen for they went they wune their first twogames before lockdown and then yeah they've Gone Oun for since so oh yeah, worring times, ther that I feel bad for them that they have like five, four orfive injuries and suspensions at one point out of their starting thirteen. So but yeah, I don't know what what's going on there, there's rumors that UmBenjie marsh well, not rumos. I think some PP, pundets and stuff have comeout and said they should sign benjy Marshall from the Tigers, who's, notgetting a game. The moment t for us, but don't really want that. To behonest, I think he should would you? Would the tigs get someting Dacen inreturn? There's no trades in NRL, oh really, bthat's a genuine issue in in the NRL like AFL, not so muchbecause you can trade, draut, picks and stuff butlike. I don't know how you do itbecause you can't have a transfer fee because there's tha salary, cap andstuff, so it doesn't work, but it like yeah. You can just produce every like agreat play every year and they just get bought like they just go to anotherclub and you legit get nothing for producing that player. So it's Hort ofbe oring yeah, a d. The time is a like a really good producer of young players.Like this year, we've probably going to have like three of the top five playersin the competition. So but is there? Is there a draft oranything? No now you just they jus sign you like oo, seven Ti oWa, Haa academies and things like yeah, there's like and the eighteen teams andstuff like that. Most clubs have one of those or like afeedar like we have a school and goal coast that we have like a connection too and then yeah. We get like first grabs tat players out of there or wejust have a good connection with them, but yeah. Now it's a bit weird, but Idon't know how they would do it, but there's just got to be some kind ofreward for producing players, because it's Vey adulg yeah, exactly yeah, because, like obviously likeTeddy, we produced Taddy and he's just gone for nothing and then Mitchell,Mosas scunf for nothing but H. Well, I guess I guess it's Unonyouto try and keep them, but u yeah, dry and rive the loyalty into them.Yeah H final thing: Before we probably get into the main topic of the episode:Afl Relegation Hawks President Jeff Kennetts he'sstill te Hawks present, I'm pretty sure, but Jeff Kennet. He came out and said this week he's veryvocal man, Jeff Kennet. He came out and said this week that there should be AFLellegation and by this I don't think he means theAFL is the first division and then you bring in Vl teams into the seconddivision. I think he was more insinuating, something like the EnglishCounty Cricket System, where you split the league into two and you have like a Dib one with maybeten teams a div two with eightteen to then, maybe you bringing a couple teams.I don't know where from e maybe have a Tazzy team, comein and ordinterritoryteam. I don't know what other expansion teams would beinterested in well. Personally, personally, I thinkthat is the worst idea. I've heard all year jus. What is wrong with what is wrong withthe AFL and like y. The thing is the top apart from like goald coasts andthey've, just smashedor west coast anyway, like Mo the teams in thecompetition, a lik around the mark Eitin for tyeight. So I don't know, I don't know, I just don't agree withit at all yeah and it's...

...there's a salary cout so and tha. Thesalary cap in the draft is legit and aid for teams just to go up and downall the time. So I don't now and many legation, and that means all the bestplayrs in the draft would be going into Divturia Yeah en o yeah. It doesn'tmake sense to me right, I think, Ho as an ta bit of Bes he's been smoking. Something likeyou have to admit the dif one matters be cool because I'm woay rucky dead,IFOR, like top like finals matches basically but then dive to like yeah, I'm sure the club supportes wouldbe still be loyal, but like half the fans would stop going forthe team like yeah, if you're a Carden, casual and you're intive to likethere's no way you're getting around it. You'e going out to games watching themjust play. OL The bad teams like there's JS, not much in it, I mean anlike the t, ioen do to would sure would drop. Yes, they opposed to what theyare now so yeah. I don't know what the mean whol idea of that is. People mightstart like being fans of two teams, one DIV, oneteam and yeah one GIV, two team. So I don't don't ray the idea of that either. There's just more issues like I know this is very minute, but they have thisissue in county cricket like how well do you judge a diff toperformance like can I dif to play and make the AUAUSTRALIAN team like there'sUS taps of UN stuff like that, where it's Ahit's, tough and then, if anything, your actually making the problem worse, because no dive to playor is going towant to Stayta tive to quite, they would always try and get a trade orsomething to a div one club. So if anything, you're actually going tocreate a separation between a bunch of eight bad teams and ten good team, butcurrently with the current system apart from Goll coast and maybe carton, butthey look to be on the up in the near future. There's not really been anyteam stuck down the bottom. For for two long Melbourne as well, but once againyou know they looked to the improved yep, see yeah, I'm not surre about that idea.Heve talked about we Australian soccer for a long time and the differencethere is that the aleagues not really like the AFL is a successful business.Everyone gets around it, wherthe Aleag, not so much so yeah. I would see like Iwould understand the purpose of doing that. Aa League, but yeah. I don't know why, like if it'snot broken like not really any need to do such a dramatic change to the waythe Leagu runs so and because there's no obviously no draft in the a league yeah, so that makes it more feasible, yeahand yeah. I don't know, there's just itjust wouldn't wear and like it's just bever, it's no even likelyreally it's just one person's idea that just been shouted out really becauseAffel to the cause like it's a prettyy traditional sport like there's, notreally many changes year to year, where, like not saying that arrols better thanafllow anything, but the NIS pretty like progressive and as we saw with howlike reckless law, wasn't didn't turn out to be reckless but and I wrote were pretty like loose andhow fast they came back and like anils, always changing heaps and rules andstuff, where afl they're kind of happy with the game, as it is right now andyeah like Fareop, it's a very successful business, as we said before. So I don't see it ever even being mentioned like in the board, murinesand stuff, like that, so Jeff kanet help holp on your hals, Oha a off somewhere all right. So the NAM discussion oftoday we're going to be talking about NFL contracts. This is petpaveor mine, sobasically this this topic arrisesevery year at about this time of year, NFL players. They signe these four year, rooki contracts. So I don't know the INS and outs of the NFL contract system, the American contracts they're quite confusing, because you can be on liketwenty million, you could get paid twenty million, but only ten milliongos to Saar cap or you can be paid thirty million first year and then thefifty you get twentyzand it's al very confusing, but to the CORL. Rookicontracts are about four years with, like a fifthyear option, yeuh n. Whatoften happens is you get a superstar in their third or fourth year playing on arookie contractand in a position like a...

...running back or even a wide receiver, where your prime is pretty young? You often in your prime on rookie price,on a rookie wage so like you've got Philip Lindsey who's,probably arguably in the prime of his career. I think it's his third year, mybes. Fourth, he is only on seven hundred and fifty hsand dollars a year.Meanwhile, you've got David Johnson who's way, worse, Tand, Philip Lindsyhe's like thirty one or something he's just casually earning like elevenmillion dollars or something yeah. So it's outrageous there's going to be a change becausealrea each year the league sort itself out. The players eventually come back. They agreed to their club, but as a fan, I'm sick at this every single year, like you know the case of Dalvin Cook, this Yearmat Yeap Yeah, one of the leagues toll runningbacks e, looks like he's pretty pretty confident on he jus holdout. He doesn't want to come back till he gets a deal. sorded it happened. Last year was Zik. He Ithink mthe first game mate or he might have got it unsigned just a couple daysbefore Esa Gota signd. Yet in Gordon Thiss, three or four weeks I think Dui wholeabout and yeah, it's startidgto boecome a big deal. What do you? What do you think about it? Well, I think at the moment, with ourplays like Dalvin Cook Franchises are starting to place a bit less value on the runningback position and valuing he the offensive line more so I think they'regetting less and less willing to pay running back to the big buck, but yeahas well as that there's. I think it's outrageous that players can just not play like that. It just shows heres, absolutely no loyalty to your toyour franchise that they're all they're, alljust doing it for money yeah, but yeah, F, Dalvin, Cook, specially he he does deserve a much bigger contract than what he's on yet.At the moment be honest. I take the players side on this, like, as you weresaying, it's pretty dog what they do. They basically hold the franchise bythe balls and they're basically like. Well. If you don't pay me, you don'thave a running back this year, yeah putting dog, I think the last dance I don't think you've seen it.Have you no haven't yet the Barkol Join Scotty Pipan. He signed. I don't knowan eight year deal or something on a rookie contract or very low payingcontract yeah and by seventh eighth season. He was a top ten NBA player andhe was like the hundred and twenty fi highest paid player so and he had likeseven siblings, two parents. They were from like the streets like Yidid, havemuch money at all, so he he held out and then he eventually left becausethey wouldn't resign his contract or something like that is. It was kind ofconfusing, but I don't know for that that just kind ofput into his perspective, it is pretty unfair on these players. Like I know wewere saying they have no loyalty, but then you can also say the franchisedoesn't have loyalty if they're not willing to fairly pay them yep, becauseeven Alvan Kamara he's on nine hundred and fiftyhsand dollrs this year. He iseasily a top five wall. Arculally yeah I's, probably a togh fir running back.Basically so he does not deserve to be on that and although it's likely thatsomeone that good is eventually going to get extended resigning or they're going to gosomewhere who pays them well, what that off chance is just frightening for aplayer that they do their ACL yer just lose it this year and then no one wantsto pay them the big bucks and then it turns out they've just played threeyears at a high level of NFL, but they haven't earned a sustainable wage from it. So it's definitely a tough issue. Ithink obviously they're not going to look atAustralia to sort this out because they don't even know Australia exists in theUnited States, but they've got to do something like thet afl like I've,never seen a whole outn Na fl ever yeah. I do think it's less likely that Happeni in a gamewith more players, because the NBA there's only five players on the court,so one or two players can have a really dominant impact and then NFL like aquarterback writing back wide receiver. They can by them saying I'm not going to play. They can like change the game where, if I don't know from Portounaladif Bradythat goes, I'm not playing yeah. It's like you'R, IG, sweet he'll be Hon. hisright he'll be on his wayiscle adency. So it is hard to compare that. The like the rookie contracts are justway too long. Like you shouldn't, be...

...able to sign afor Ye contractitshouldn't be a thing like you should be able to sign two years Max. I reckanI'm pretty sure that ifl it's two years and then you could race on whatever youwant. Yeah. So, like I don't know exactly, but I think banking. I thinkhe resigned like three months into Yis. The first season, ut yeah they've, got to sort outsomething because especially they're running back the running backs ar themost affected quarterbacks, not so much because they pay till their forty yeah.Well, the good ones, so they theyr like secondterd and fourth contracts arridiculous, where they're aning twenty million plus a year, but even likeGaden minshe. He might not be a starter ever again after this season and he'srolling into this year as a seven hundred thousand dollar player. So definitely bet or thought this out, because, especially as a fantasy coach but Tan and human, like it', Starne toPiss me off, because this happens every single season and it's just like we're going nowhere like nothin, nosolutions being thought of no one thinking the long term, everyone's jstgoing a case by case. Should we pay him should be not so definitely think something has totake place. The only thing is without being man like thenfl they're, pretty like o noxious, their big business. They don't really care if a playeris like feeling rippedoff or whatever yeah. So it's going to be tough to like convincethem to do something, but the and it's happening with a lot of sports like Iknow the UFC io, you don't know much about the UFC, but ther USC. You sign adeal and instead of years it's fights, so you can sign a five, a five fightdeal for five hundred thousand dollar Fivt, and then your heads just got me I'll en olden and IFL fand holding insome smirks at your D, your cameras, but anyway, that'sabsolute rubbish, potty potty content right there for the listeners yeah. So it's like five fights you getfive hundredk fight and then, after your fift fifth fight, you can renegotiate but what's been happening happening. Alot recently is the first two fights of the contract. They'll do really wellthey'll like saw in the rankings, they all become global stars and then theytry and renegotiate they're like I'm, not fighting for five hundred sand. Iwant two million and then the USC. This goes well. Your contract says you haveto av three more fights at five hundred thousand and then they're like well,I'm not doing that. Then I want more and they kind of just do it case by case aswell so similar to the NFL. So it s seems to be an issue in. I don't knowif it happens. In the NBA, if I'm honest but seems to be an issue in the NFL ide, I don't happen as muchin the NBA because similar to like quarterbacks, they play pretty longcareers and stuff like that. Tyeah definitely needs to be addressed. Itdoesn't affect the players who are taken early. I know Kyla Murry. He waslike paid heaps last year, I'm pretty sure, and because he was the number onepick, but people who here taken late later and turn out to be guns they are well like. I know it sounds ridiculous, complaining about seven hundred thousand dollars a year, but when youconsider like the market rate for what your jobis, is like ten million fifteen million, it's pretty wrong. I've Thenk! How do you? How do youRecogni an fix it? Well before that? It's another thing:that's stiff on the players in the NFL. Is that it's a lot of it is luck because with za it was like the only goodrunning back on the cowboys list, so obviously that Wa going to give him acontract. But now cook they've got two like pretty solid backup running backsbehind him and he's already had an injury history yeah, so he's gotabsolutely no leverage with the Vikings Yeah and and also the injury passed like the injury. Past Ust makes itworse because both partis ar like more stubborn because they're like yeah, whywe go out and renegosiate when you could do acl this year and never beable to play again and then he's probably arguing the exact same thingsaying like well, I don't want to walk away from the NFL crear, having onlyearned two million dollars yeah in case I get injured, so the injurything doesn't help and yeah. As you said, it definitely depends on yoursituation, but yeat pretty much. All thesituations are pretty dulg yeah...

...and the bronchos signing Melvin Gordon is so dogged to PhilipLindsay yeah honestly, an Lindsay's a better purerunning back than Melvourne Ini. Now now he'll just not get on the park atall, just because they're Payi it gorden like eight mill yeah but yeahand like another thing, is, if you see with Lebyan bell it alsolike a ruins a lot of players Karea, because he sat out he held out in thetwenty seventeen or eighteen season, with the steelers they weren't willing to renegotiate hiscontract or MED, is terms or whatever I don't know the specifics, so he justdidn't rock up, and then he went to the only place or I don'tknow if it's the only place willing to sign him but the place willing to givehim the most money or whatever he wanted and he's gone to the jets and helooks like he's completely lost his ability, yeah and now one of like theleagues best running backs in the last like five years, its just like ridingat a bad team, so yeah, but that that's definitely that kind ofshows that the the offensive line is probably more important. Yeah then having in alate running back yeah, it's true. Even the late running backs can andit. Isacon. He has games where he gets like no yards because he's just got himnothing from his ow line, yeah and N. it's definitely. I think it would be anissue in other positions. But I'll be honest. I haven't heard much about itin other positions, but yeah. As you said, the running back is the mainthing, because the players don't usually have much o leverage becauseyeah when the time comes, yeah the club asyouere saying for like Cook, they might just go well, I'm pretty happy withMadison, if I'm honest and like he looks to his assistir coaches andthey're like yeah. Sorry brother been one of the best running backs inthe League for one and a half years and youere paid and rookie contractor, andyou can just cot, but u yeah, it's very stiff yeah so like it's,a tough one to fix, because it's a o systemic issue like they genuinely haveto change the contract structure of the NFL. But I honestly think if you just made it a rule that rookies can't sign morethan for your contracts, like I didn't see, Iwas losing. I seeWHO's losing out there because that way, yeah, I just don't, get it becausebefore year, contract was probably actually brought in to benefit theplayer like. So they were more secure, had more guaranteed money because theydon't get paid in college so like they sacrifice a lot and at that point intime they haven't earned a single sent so like they need to be secured foryour salary. But then the two year, by changing it to to theplayer, will benefit because then they'll be able to renegotiate like in their pride and they'll, have moreleverage. But then, if you look at it from another angle, I'm sure see IAS. I was saying I don't know toomuch about this contract situation and o mainly only know the high profilecases and the INS and out of those ones, but I'm sure the four year. Rookycontract benefits a lot of players who don't get as much gametime and mightnot get resigned by an NFL team yeah, because a IAS saying they don't getpaid in college. So if they change it to two year contracts, someone got paid.Five hundred thousand for two years, and then they got cut, never picked upagain like that is pretty stiff yeah. But but then that's that's life forlike. If you to make it, you can't just be given money, yeah, I'Mus and I'msure the four year thing having money guaranteed for four yearswill make a lot of players just sit back and yeah, and they on or I and thenthey just won't, become good, yeah or another way that another solution. Theycould look at this as always been heaily discussed, but they could makeit legal to make money in NCAA and c a so because collegus make somuch money from like attendants. Car parking like thee's hom concessionslike there's so much stuff like they get like a hundred and ten housend tosome games like it and the players can't earn a sent in order to beallegible to play in the college system. So that would probably be another waybecause if they'e been paid for four years prior to them coming in the NFL, then you know, like it'll, be less ofan issue that, like they need to be paid more.If you know what I mean after their four years, because they've already hadeight years of being paid if they...

...played the full four years of college, but then it's tough, because the issue mightjust roll down to the college system, and then there might be holid outs inlike this senior year of college, so yeah out of ther thats. You were saying at the end of the day, there just seemsto be a bit more common decency from the players and the club like thefranchises, like the fret. The players need to just be like well, I will justkeep playing for you because I'm under contract and that's what you're payingme to do, even if it's a little bit unders and then iwill just have thefi'll. Put the faith in you that you won't dog me yeah, like that's, that'show it should work but, like I understand both sides of thecoin and it's a tough one, but I really do think they need to fix the four yearthing because I'm sure a lot of players well likethis holdout rubbish is just stupid, getting sick of it yeah. I agree theyshould. They should would definitely reduce it. Yeah Wer you saying todaythat Jone Mixer might be holding out as well. Yeah Mixon's recently threatenedthe holdout as well, but I think he's not he's asking for lessthan what cooks askhing for so it's yeah it's a bit. He should yeh just getit. I was looking before and mixins. Unlike one and a half meal, yeah Cookscook was only on like sevenhundred or something yeah, but then you've got just straight up shitrunning backs who aren't first tream on like five mill yeah like Gabani Bena, the Bang wasrunning back up to mixn and he's earning five times as much as im yeah.So there's genuine, like issues with the system so like the whole Rooki contractingneed, does need to be fixed yeah. But another thing is: when theserunning backs get the big contracts they often well, it seems like theyjust they sit back a bit because DavidJohnty, as soon as he got his, he turned into a Palish, get same withMelbourne Gordon to an Extendi Yoll, see what he does this year. But levebell looks like he's done that yeah exactly yeah, so oit's a tough one, but then you can argue if they just fixthe contract thing. That won't happen because theywill get the big bucks intheir thirgy, which is arguably running, backs PRI yeah, because they're getting the big buckspast their prime, like exacy. Only the very best running backs is still goodwhen they're like in their sixth and seventh season, yeah, like the only one that comes to mind,is like, like Adrian Peaterson, Frank Ol, yeah,Lechau, macoa they'r, like the only one and they're like all time, running backto the sreet alike, in the top ten rushing yard. So yeah it's like a genuinely coopedsystem and they definitely need to fix it and also-and I have difference between Australia and Ou us say that makes it a bit tough.A lot of these players come from nothing so like yeah. They need Momoney to secure their family and stuff where, like half the AFL gets draftedfrom the APS, so like they're, not really that desperate for money andstuff but yeah. Now it's it's a tough issue. It's always a bit hard to you know, getlike ethics and economics merging yeah, because, like you kind of need bothsides to almost sacrifice their actual marketvalue a little bit just to be good block but yeah it's it's never going tobe possible to completely satisfye both sides, yeah yeah, but then like there's thirtyother thirty one other teams in the League so like, if you ally, believeyou're worth what you think you're worth and I cuble someone should comeget you. But I guess I do have like if cook was to not play he'd be fined hisentire nearly salary yeah week, there's nobleage training session yeah get fine pretty much yeah. So there's no pointdoing that. That's why Melvurn that's why MelvoulneGordon came back yeah, because I think it's like week. Seven,if you don't come to training before week, seven you get fined like yourwhole, Tan, your salary or something, but then, if it's before, then you justget like a training by training, fine yeah, because I'm pretty sure thecharders didn't give him his cash. I think they just said: No. You can justleave next year. Yeah! I don't honestly. I don't know why thebroncods did it to be honest, yeah and then the contracts are just soaring everyyear, because it each year the hold out likeRas Usic, got paid ridiculous amounts.

Yeah then she dack will get paid amountridiculous amounts and then they just keep getting expentially more and moreso like the whole outs are just going to be more common, more common, so they definitely need to fix. Therookie contract length is basically what this all boils down to or the COLIB system they get allow themto make some money from that yeah anyway, you're looking forward to rarascot to thabing fellow, I am Mat, Anhe a'm, the footy as well Ando.
