ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Hamish is joined by Rhett and Christian to discuss their favourite sporting moments from their respective sporting careers. The lads chat through their moments telling funny stories and sharing interesting details along the way.

I'm change, he settle. Welcome back to the animal podcast. This episode twenty seven. I don't even know this one. Twenty seven or twenty eight joined here, as you can see on Youtube, but you obviously can't see them on the listening platforms. Rettin Piach, welcome back, guys. Thanks, thanks, mate. How are you Rett? You finished exams. While done, there, I'm prompt me clearly. Happy en finish for now. You finished exams. You are going to be always used in terms of the podcast guest, so sucks to be you. Across five episodes in the next three weeks. I've got to replace pills because he's got a crime. It's gonna exactly exactly right. So today's topic. We are discussing our top favorite sporting moments that we have been a part of. These always fun chats. This actually started because, right, you just asked me this the other week randomly, and there's that big, good podcast. So he me a to day. Yet was the hard process to think of the three lads? Or Pretty Self Explanatory, pretty easier? A few? Okay, straight to one's a piece of cake for me and absolutely no brainer. Yea, my which is basically the first three that came to mind. I gave it twenty more minutes of thought. Couldn't think of anything to PIP it. So, yeah, that's about it. All of you mentions I've got. The thing is, most my moments that I'm thinking of they're not like an actual moment. Like, for example, when we smacked Brighton for Asmandale. Yeah, I was in a moment. That was like a twenty minute peod. That does good, good time now. But Jenkins own goal, that was a moment. was actually yeah, that's that's replacing. That's coming into it quite late. Change. Oh, no, sewna shaw, no versus gold pats. The doll post is still knocked out. You still have come out of the coma. Yeah, the goal post definitely lost that fight winning the school cricket premiership. But the thing is I feel like that would have been up there. But we want it because the game got called. Yeah, because of a climax. Yeah, but then like the preceding, like our that was pretty good. But, as I was saying before then, they don't qualify as moments. So I might just roll into my number three. Numbers Three I've got. I'm just I'm just making sure my orders run in my head now number three I've got. I think it was the indyear nine. I think all three of us were there piled you must be that. I won't lie. They really remember you being there, but you must have been because you were in a cricket team in the year nine. It was when we beat Scotch by one run. This was because he's a memory, but I remember we just got absolutely up and about. It came down I think we needed I think they needed like eight runs and we needs to take two wickets or something. And then I think I bought the second last over, went for like six. Thought I'd stuffed that. I don't know if that we needed two. We gets of just one wicket anyway. Will Giles Heralic fotty came on Bob last and got the final wicket. I think, caught behind, I'm pretty sure. And then I remember we just like took off and it was my even my dad said, like my dad doesn't really care about the stuff. Even he said the car. He was just like yeah, you boys probably celebrated bit too much. They're like it was just your nine cricket, but we genuinely took off and we'll like all over each other just like in a massive pile. Yeah, I don't know. Do you remember that game? Same Lines, man, it took me so long to remember, until you've until you said like Wood Charles took off. Yeah, it was on that like back over at Scott Right. Yeah, I remember. I remember. I got out third ball, just straight through me bold. Yeah, I rember opening. Yeah, the ball, the game just got cleaned up. Not. Yeah, I remember. I remember just the end part. I can't remember the second innings. Little now bomb. Yeah, yeah, I have to say our cat can't remember match at all. You know, because I'll be honest, actually don't remember in the team at that...

...point that you played. Yeah, team and night, and so maybe it's just because I didn't know you as well back then. I can't. I've a maybe I'll yeah, one. I can't remember him being there. Think you could have been away, because I don't really be there. You know, then I get I was the myth of the team. So you're ever so shad to will giles, and I'm strong took the cats behind the stamps, as always. I think give her took some give. He took some wickets and that one right between runs, runs, runs. Yeah, yeah, I think that's that. That was the worst time I came a good bats for now, because I think, like, I don't know if you bawls as much because he's back and stuff. He's a good batsman. I was always said, no, I think he thinks he is. HAH, that makes the must. That's I think that's a post to the clue to it something that's pretty yeah, but I think you actually makes some runs on the sin though, so fair play to him. Give us mention this thing. We probably would have crey man. Think we probably would a cruise through that Scotch match. If, if I was playing in that one, probably would have. Probably would have just find out the whole top order. Yeah, that was peak peek pip onder thought. I don't think Charlie lovedge was playing, so that's probably helped out our cause. I want was playing one was one of one of them was playing that. I remember that. He dominated or will, but I think he made runs in that game. Yeah, yeah, he did. He came out now I remember this game. It's only yeah, it's coming back to me. Bold like a full toss, waste time. He smacked it for for and it was like they need like eight runs and I thought. I just like completely checked it, but I remember that day I hadn't bold and I think I don't know who's captaining, rob or Keebo. They like miscalculated the overs and there was that three. There was like four of us to go and they only had giles who had overs left. So I had to bolt two overs in at the death. Sounds actually bold. Okay, and then I bought a full twelves and I thought I'd ruin it for boys, but got the win. Unreal. You take on on, so you take it. Did you grab that? Great, did you grab a pop? I don't think I bold, man, I don't think. I think I both the entire season. May Now just held this the stick and just got cleaned up a couple times. Yeah, you know, like two thousand and twenty off like sixty rocks. Yeah, that sounds about this. So I did every match. My at twenty in those days is a ton. Is it time these days? Like forty? Forty? It like it felt good personally, but no one's going up and saying like what about it? It's above the point of expectation where you're like, I'm happy with my day's work, but no one's getting around you, like you probably have to school like forty plus. Everyone's like, come on, mate, you've already faces. Do you just just get us at after twenty years? That I'm Atty. it was a pick of you your career careers. God, you know. I yeah, at school was exact. Probably best play is probably be probably you right. For me, I had a nine around that after say unite in ten school cricket. There probably some of my most fond cricketing memory so far. Yeah, it's like we all just like mates basically, and we had like a really good team like will ze, Rob Strong, Gibbo cow like. Yeah, the great teams. It was shit. A special part about you, right, was the fact we had Paul Poulios, is our coach, greatest coach I've ever had. Did he like I really have much to do with him, to be honest, because I only played like the last game after. I I've got no recollection. You're right. Except for Pauli are scoring, Umpiring and coaching, if you can call it coaching. And the first thing about cricket. It was a specialist futsal coach and he saw me. I got the eight a Gig just because that, to the quite a few afl players in our year. A team Actually, Oh yeah, kings and cultural who? I actually just watched a video on Gelong's twitter instagram. Geelong VfL Played Carlton's Toos and he saw his red hair getting that marked. That players which pretty handy, and I think Heath Briggs played pretty high level of Footye. I think his brother plays for like the Melbourne seconds, the Casey Demons or whatever they're called. Pretty talented side we had back in the day. Yeah, Dad,...

...we stuck a cricket and we're actually got smacked in your right, like every game. I'm pretty slay. We absolutely nice sucked. You're right, are you said? That is all that you guys. Last game, a couple of games. You're in the squad right. I've faded against like saying Kevin's. They'd like to. Actually I went off like injured because I've got hidden the UPS by Will James, or whatever that guy's name was, from scabs pacing, and then I came out and made like to. But then we played a two day or last round against Scotch in your right and I made like forty nine out of something. I got it out. I clean up every time. Every time against Scotish, this one blonde like just cleans me up and all like he's that was that Wull. But yeah, the fact could yeah, it just bow me like a pearl. Every time we played. I was like yeah, cheers. Second Day again, I just like said the mass. Yeah, and you know, I save yous h Mac, which is myself and will see, came into the side, just elevated the team. Well, yeah, was will was he not there before? Oh, yeah, key burn cow Elvin's land, a bit of pace and we're actually pretty good side and unite antenna. Yeah, we'd see Pilcher. See pilcher gained a bit of flight in his eye. If that's what you want to call on me. If you have cricket, not number three, not number three. Well, anyway, Woo Urach, will roll over to your number three mate. I'm sure they'll be more cricketing ones to come. But all right. Well, I've actually gone with the two thousand eighteen state soccer final, metro metrosp soccer grand final and the grit the grand final, the grand final, the grand final, where we want. We the boys. We rolled out with the boys and we got it done for two again, that team against sunshine. Undine had an that sunshine had an average strength and paste writing isn't at watch yourself. Watch itself. Yeah, it's hard to it's hard to pin down a particular moment out of the match, but probably just the point where we crossed. Who kicked the seiler? Think it was Jimmy. Jimmy scored it. Like Jim we scored two a year old kids. What was the score? Pot for Tobe, for to? Yeah, like to listen too. Don't know. We all played in a soccer team together in this match. So yeah, the boys and yes, I'll say. I'll say when Jimmy kick the seiler and then we sawt a, knew we'd done it with about ten go and and the fact that it was, the fact that it was with the boys, is is the main bit. Yeah, that's the main part. This moment of the game is where they're strike a body's home right like a big squat. In this familiar first five minutes of the match. She absolutely burnt me about three times. And then you and many tours hand to put a bottom victory, though he was playing junior soccer may and then after thank call that that first goal that left the guys hit one on his wrong foot from the top of the box and was just like, Oh my God, we're gonna get to crush like six men absolutely bullet off the non preferred from sixteen yards, we thought, all know, and the Dad will van dark at sea of back. He's suck, he's sucked, he's that like the black like print, and we were going in Virgil, he should I we I think we were just calling him verge for different reasons. We weren't called anyone versus. We were playing. We were playing with fifteen versions, but pretty sure that's what what we were referring to. Their Center back ass using. Absolutely he was an absolute, I remember. Yeah, I thin cross part one. I think it was one on one, and then spen like squared. It's me and then, yeah, we crossed my yeah, I have to admit from a selfish point I don't remember the game too fondly because I didn't do much. Was the left wing of their left wing was pretty good, so I preferred the the other leg of the try series. But yeah, ours remember peach played really well in that gay because we just played one center back and then a left back in the right back because no was out. Yeah, you and you and J lampet red as put on it to put on clinics at a I couldn't DM and right, I could say. Sad to remember that John...

...and playing really made my job easy. Had My job. You guys like Albanians, sent amid rage, dumb. Yeah, Oh, yeah, that's the captain under the county and it was like that, probably tatter, but book was about to stab someone. He was like abusing the ref in like a European language is like drews. I'm pretty sure hey in the reff went off to the car park after the match to settle a few things. I just remember being shit to get at this time, and then when we started getting better, just think the arrogance just rose. Yeah, we and we saw a sin, though I knew we had one. We were official turf. We played some great footy on the synthetic decks, but that game in particular, I feel like we just put on an absolute clinic. All eleven men. It helped. Their goalkeepers sucked like he was even. Remember. Do you remember like the Free Kick? James Score just rolled it along the ground. They yeah, I remember his pretty sucked and it still winning. Yeah, actually, yeah, the whole defense locked. I remember, like they just pick big blokes who could kick the ball and that's all they did. They just like grooted the ball every time they got it. They were pretty average. But therefore wards and then midfielders. Apparently it's a preseason trials. They just got the measuring tape out. It was an awesome day because, like at that stage of our wives were a bit older, like our parents get around our sport a bit less, but because it was a state grand final, like all our families were there and stuff. Yeah, that's probably what I remember most. Christ crispin got down in knee. Yeah, I think he did. Think probably the only get seen him come to cork get down. I think. I'm pretty sure. I'll probably got there, buddy. Hell, I remember. I remember your mom yelling from the sidelines. Like remember exactly where our parents and filled his parents were sitting. Actually, I just remember the end of the game. We were like standing round next to each other, like and we just ran after the game, after the whistle. Yes, Buddy, let what body legendary? So number three red off. I've gone with the first game we played in England. Ah, in England, in England. Yeah, well, which one region I know the one you're thinking of. His coming next is related to pictures. Last one. Yeah, Carr Old. Yeah, so the first game we played in I think it's just like it's not maybe the moment, but like the whole experience of like that that day at Halabre in England, like we played the two thousand and twenty. I got a couple of runs. I was like yeah, and then and then just like after that, like because I hardly knew anyone in the team, and then after that, like after you actually do something, all the lads get around you like actually like new everyone after that, and then the night we had like where we'll just hanging out in the dorm and stuff. I howl, weey. I think that whole day was just elite and it was all because of their the sports. I'm just linking it. I'm linking them together. May We were so lucky. I think they were actually a pretty good team, because there's their exams. We call they're good players. It's kinds and the yeah, they had based who played like minor counties or something, and be through overthrowst you remember. I think we run the game three, four overthrows and lock like lip them off. Yeah, I just remember everyone getting like because he fol gave me a send off like after, like right at the end of the game. Yeah, Bun got behind you. Yeah, it's like people would like shaking his hand say nice thrown. Yeah, I everyone just like bonded after that game just over that guy being an absolute tool. So, yeah, that's a good point. Yeah, I know it was just that was and it's just awesome. It was like an absolute spectacle at that ground. Like they had like the old like hog walls looking like buildings behind the ground. It's just elite. Yeah, so what's this? What this match is from me and red? We're lucky enough with school to go on a UK cricket trip and we went with like there's like four different year levels on it or something. My older brother went, who has been on this podcast a couple times. And Yeah, that was our first stop. Halabury in the UK, in Hertfordshire. I think it is the home of Watford Fun fact room. Unreal memory. Do you remember the off field antic? So yeah, I remember the UPFIELD antics. Like some as we just met these bakers in the dorm rooms. They're just telling us all these like disturbing stories and shit from what they get up to. They came to every friend for Rant, they told me. Yeah, I taught us before. They're like Oh, were they were basically just telling us how cool they were and they're like, Oh, maybe we don't care about curfews and stuff. With be in your room and would knock any dormal chat and neck minute, like we were asleep.

When we get this knock on the door and I said, just rolling in and they would just like sat on there. Probably they're probably like Fort Yeah, they're probably a thirteen or fourteen. Actually random how young they were. Yeah, they were just sitting on top of the wardrobe just like telling us stories and stuff. Yeah, that's pretty weird about that memory. Yeah, from Hayobery. I don't know if you remember it that well. You told me the art of Perry Stousis. I remember you mentioned at my a teams and I was like, Oh, yeah, they are. This is like main fields. Like to the refer this like this genuine midnight humor. But because we were so tired and like jet lagged and stuff, anything would have got me to laugh. But you were like lying down eating shapes or something, and I was like, Oh, surely you can't do that surely would choke. And then you were like Nah, carry stouts, and I was like now that's a that's sort of looks like if you drink like upside down, like you choke. And he's like Nah, and so he just lies down on the side of his bed, back head touching the floor, legs on the bed and he starts smacking shape. He's actually it's down and because it was midnight, by humor like standards had dropped a bit awesome. Hit that the floor. Mate. Should they got absolutely lost. That should not have got yeah, yeah, that was pretty funny. And now that was a awesome place, beautiful school. I had a fee. I heard a few roomors about the UK trip of a few of the boys and lazy hitting up the clubs at nighttime. And Yeah, no idea any truth clubs. We were watching their euros make they were looking for it. We were oblivious, man, we're just watching the euros. I think at bristly Hero's wife the night. Yeah, the euros are wrong. That's saying Nice. Agree. Yeah, we watched, I think in yeah, England will playing one day, when we were at se a dorm at them. Yeah, yeah, I remember watching out Garm like a theater. You know, that was a different place. I think those with the team that will really good umber. And then we went into that theater and watched it and they lost. That wasn't no BRA. Yeah, now there's so many memories of Mat trip. Should we move on? Yeah, I think me and that have the same number two, based on what we were saying before. Yeah, my number two is so to explain what we happened. If I'm not wrong, pilch, you probably know more about the soccer system the me in Victoria, because I've only played a couple of years in it. But there was three divisions in under eighteen a soccer there was like southeast, north or whatever. Yeah, and to Crown a state champion or Melbourne champion, but they called US state champion. The winners of each division got picked walting get picked U at the right to play in like a three match playoff kind of thing, like a try series. And Yeah, so we were lucky enough to win our division. We didn't just win the divisions past something. Do We destroy it idly? We injected some pork into that division. Come Y anyway. Yeah, anyway, so we got there and then so piach's match at not. He's number three. That was like on a Sunday. Then we played the other team on like a Tuesday and then they played each other on like a Thursday, or in the space of a week. So for me, my number two is the match on the Tuesday. So that the very first game. Who was the dance? I don't know. It was like some ring like Ringwood, like some Sam lunning him. It was Manningham. Yeah, it was in ring the right bout. It wasn't river's Day now because they'd bumper. Yes, they were really good team, probably a lot better than us in terms of like the way they played and just individual like match up. If you went player by player, they will probably a better team. Like they were. Seemed like they all played like, I don't know, train like three times a week. They played like genuine Ticka Tacka foot you. Yeah, so they are pretty good team. And what was the score? Did we go one, Miller? Yeah, we weren't. When? Yeah, we weren't when they were yeah, one, they're up. And then it was either like halftime or just after halftime, somewhere there our captain, Noah, who's a good friend of ours. He will he will be on the podcast in a couple weeks. Actually, I've got an episode him lined up. He was at center back and I know about you,...

...but I think he was our most crucial player. I think Quin here's another nat of ours. He was probably the best player. He was like our strike are, just like our attacking auxiliary. Just roam to the field, basically just put everything in. It was absolutely like the amount of times he had block shots and he was just like the general. Basically. Yeah, he was the man, you bitch, if you like filch or a Virgil v dark the side. Yeah, captain here, Saber, yeah, he was. He was here rock and he liked played for the club since he was six. It was a beautiful story. At Day he sellent someone's like make and he puts in a challenge which normally he would get right, but unfortunately, in the eyes of the referee, who got the challenge wrong and because the guy was arcuably one on one with the keeper, he got sent off. So that was pretty right shadowing, given the fact that we were like so tight with him. But also, when you like, he was shouted himself and he was a crucial player to us. But anyway, so we played the second off with ten men and we will probably in general play the week a team. So then when we went to ten men, we will like on, no chance. Then they they converted a penalty from the penalty was from Noah's thing. Nine, I was Noah gave away a free kick, and then didn't you give way the penalty? Pat, yeah, it was. It was like a stiffest handball. Yeahs still stiff, Hamil, they're trying to cut back or something else. Yeah, some bullshit like that. And then the man very it. Or three two, we won two one. Yeah. So then we're just been grinding ten men, like just putting an absolute shift. Everyone was knacked, and then we made a break, like a counter attack would like five minutes ago. Quinn got the ball. I I lie. Actually think I had a hand in this. I think I either passed it to Quinn or, like you have passed before. Quinn, I don't know, you assisted the first goal as well. Well. He was a really good pass. I remember that left back was pretty bad, so I had a lot of like overlaps and it was a white this field. I remember that. And then, yeah, so Quinn slotted one with maybe two or three minutes to go and even though will ten men down. We basically knew that was the sealer and we couldn't lose from there, and we just lost the plot. That moment was under is it the moment of the goal or like the full time with the goal? The goal, for sure, the GOUT. The goal was like last minute. Yeah, it was probably like the last kicker. It was one of the last kicks of the game for sure. And normally when you celebrate a going junior soccer, everyone kind of goes like yeah, five, yeah, but we went off, mate, everyone random. Nois genuine premier league celebration. Like we ran to the to the bench and like all like we're getting around each other, like jump on the steam els. was like full, went off and yeah, and then we run two minutes later or whatever. I had the ball the final whistle. Thanks, list. Didn't you slip for it? Didn't you pass? Didn't you play me in, or I played you in or something when we were out? All I know is I'm not lax corner and Yeah, you'd not make past it to me, Matt. Yeah, it was a Carter. I was like shirking. Yeah, I was just hanging off somewhere, not defending and then the ball like trickled out and I just took off and I think, yeah, I made someone and I just sent you through, or something like that, the blue and they blew the whistle and I just remember, I know about you, but I remembers ran straight to not as, who was like I don't know if you had been, but I think at some point he might have shed a couple tears because he was shot at the dear let the lights down or whatever. Yeah, you shed a few. So I remember jump like because he wasn't allowed in the field. So, yeah, it's like I remember your jumped to the fence like a big hug. Yeah, all the boys were just getting around each other and we would just pump and tunes. In the change rooms after field. The boys were just running around like absolutely lunatics. You, you were one of them, Ratt yeah, probably. Yeah, and they went. They were the best blokes. The teams will the team will playing. I remember they were. I thought they weren't. They were hacks. Due a guy like school studded me like yeah, my legs was like bleeding. Yeah, and there I was like to the Ref, what is his mat? Knees as like can't do anything. We hadn't make. Yeah, I remember I got like just genuinely ankle tapped and like a face playing the ground. Yeah, maybe it's the ref the refs sucked the right the nose nozzes shouldn't have been a red card. When't you covering? You were like running around to come. Yeah, I was covering. Yeah, yeah, it wasn't. The last man put would have got there. But yeah, anyway, probably didn't need to make that tackle. I guess you could also argue if pilch was there, but yeah, you knows that he's back to me, so he yeah, didn't see you coming. Yeah,...

...that was obviously a very fast moment. So that is my number two and I wrapped summer too, as well. Anything else on that moment. Lads, it was good because we're all there, like Uni Queen, no coach, everyone, all the boys. That's what makes these moments. Yeah, that was the best part of that, that whole season, that whole run to the finals. Like, yeah, understand, every moment. We're just like yeah, and like that was the that's a game where normally, like where I play sport, like I'm thinking about it, but I'm also kind of like sowing own like when I'm playing for cricket at Dan all, like I just be watching Buckley's gay. Yeah, that's like this, like you don't fortunated like W me and peach player bright last year. We just be talking about super coach cracking gags. Yeah, but like this one, I remember like I'd actually run my heart out and because we had ten men for the half, like we were just and they were like pretty good in possession. We would just like working across the field like tirelessly. Yeah, and so it was like when we got the win, it was like really well fought and like well deserved. So it's pretty special. After they scored and we were down to ten men, we were we were playing for penalties. Yeah, I remember because we just had queen up front, Eric, I was like sub on the best penalty takers, because I think we had some decent players off. I was like suboy James Fit, no offense to him, but fan and might have been a something, or Lucas. It's like something as he's got it said Derek. I was like because whatever the fire team is, the final whistill has to take the penalties. I don't know what I was thinking about that. I remember I just remember the Queen's goal. Like he got the ball like on the wing and like drouble past like probably two players and then scored. It was like it was a good goals. Well, yeah, like definitely. And the first, the first goal he scored as well, like you crossed it from like like it was a deep cross and he just chest it down and like took a another touch. It was kind of fun. That's season. I don't know if he's actually the most talented sportsman ever played with. He was playing like prime bur camp name, like I've been lucky enough to buy with a lot of good cricketers and some good sock plays, but he actually might be the most talented sportsman I've ever played with. Like he's an absolute weapon on the bad miss cocki peninsula. Yeah, made some of the goals he scored that season. That left foot when he scored out barrick, like on the run. Luck he ran, Oh and he just met the ball, who just flew into the top corner. And then another one at Barick back the volley that came out. Yeah, it was something gone get him into the Premier League's only goals he scored that season. We're kind of like fucked. Yeah, and like, as I was saying, right, I've favorite roll of cricket is some who have gone to be professionals. But like, yeah, Quin, just like probably does, has done some of the most freakasing service. Yeah, yeah, the way he places. We just has freaky stuff. Yeah, at the same time as being an absolute baker. Yeah, that's probably NOWs to it. Like he's not you typical superstar sports for like he's very humble and kind and stuff. Yeah, like what his ass off as well. Yeah, yeah, Pilch, watch a number two. May My number two transitioning back into the prestigious nine a cricket outfit. Hi, here we go, here we go. So we're playing. Hey, I like to challenge this. I think it's your but go ahead. Yeah, it is. It is your right if wins, I didn't play it. I didn't play it. It's definitely your A. be sure it's the one? Yeah, if it's the one you're thinking of, guest him because he was a replaying in the ones meeting. You know. Yeah, that's true. Yeah, it's definitely. I'm sticking to my theory that it's. You're not right. I go it's big a guy ahead. So my go for this bloke, this blond head boat from Brian and Grammar, came to the crease number three or four and like you've got like our whole side, all the field in this now and this guy, this guy's best player in Australia, learn the world actually why it was. You're a you guys are right, because I'm ruiosome, like he was already on like twenty met maybe. Think, lady. He came in Crofty, crafty, dragged, run down, he hit him, overs, hit him for six best. Yeah, he did need and poor yos is just like it's going the Victorian team or something like that. But I came on. I came onto bowl. Fully else pulls you do, pollios brought me on. Bring on your biggest weapon. The block was on s just quietly to give the listeners and context. Huh, don't...

...you explain, like your delivery type? Oh yes, that's trunomical. Some say he's deliveries floated higher than SPACEX. We were thirteen or fourteen, so we didn't have much pace on us, especially myself back then, but I wasn't off spinner who specialized in the art of flight. I'll send a few into all the couple of the couple of the net came down. I'm fired. Just had to give balls, but on this occasion tossed one up to him. He's, as soon as it left my hands, dance down there with it premeditated, the lofted drive over mid off. If you middled it, it was a hundred eighty meter. But he's he's not, he's not quite, he's not quite got to the pitch of the ball. It's turned away nicely. Rob Strong's. The papers had to had to move forward five meters to collect the ball and execute something because if our slow was which isn't actually legal. But there was squirrel now explaining the bats. When his day? You've just said. So yeah, he was. He was a state player back then and now he's He's played a couple games in the big bash is in the Australian. He wasn't the Australian underign inside. I believe might have been captain. Yeah, captain, that's as the nights. Yeah, so it is a promising player who may end up playing for Australia. We don't know, but yeah, we can only hope. If we can only hope. If your name is Christian, bitch, what may you could say his name. Mackenzie Harvey is his name. Nephew of Neil. Can you can't be Ya know, we talked about this armed and we in Harvey, nephew of an hard. Yeah, the first we talked about this and yeah, nils from S and we were like that coupy right, yeah, Neil. It's because Neil was a gun and he sucked. But I'm pretty sure well did have so sady suck. He played a couple games for Australian favorite, the like neils, like an all time yeah, but anyway, yeah, but say something. And he said Kids and a Sandy Club, legend of the threes or something. Mackenzie Harvey was his name. That was my my biggest ever scalp and will be my biggest ever scalp. Decent and decently good moment. Tinker picked up three, fur led the boys, led the boys on our way to an eighty run loss. I was about to say I think it's your right. So I'm pretty sure you got totally ever creamed. Yeah, I'm pretty sure what happened in that game as well is we did a reverse order, so I opened the bowling and battered at eleven a hundred percent. That's what happened. But I remember opening your I'm pretty sure I came in at like three. Yeah, I just remember it. I could still bat a bit in those days, so I was didn't get dismissed. Got Too off to or thirty. You still can. Don't sell yourself short. Went through a patch where where I lost it, but that's why I give the chance. But yeah, I think I'll just like to point out the way we explained you're bowling makes you sound like bats. When who bowls once every like at als to cook the URE. I like you with a we could cross something else. I wasn't. It was rabbi Ashwan. In those days, man in style was bizarre and you struggled to bullet training because you'd hit the top the amount of fun seeing, seeing the IM specifically there. A couple times you'd try and but you have three a writ in. Fuck, yeah, that that's it for me. Today was I put yeah, yeah, and then you just adding off or something. Well, not. That sounds like you're just smoking a bowling dart. Yes, you're actually a pretty good bold it can't even though it's UN Orthodox action. Can't sell yourself short there now, that was a good night. It was a good nut man in under fourteen representative crickets. Some say I ran them out. I don't think I did. Hey On, who dos? Sorry, who's this MAC UP NACKER? Did you run MAC around? Yeah, well, I actually don't remember it too clearly. I'm pretty sure what happened. He just hit it too short cover and ran, because he never made mistakes. Ever, people just like pinned it on me, like I'm pretty sure I actually didn't have much to do with it. So, but a few people just like we're saying it was my fault. But well, you're his partner. Yeah, but at this point, and just to point out the dominance he had in junior cricket, in this under fourteen rep carnival, I think he scored three hundreds and a ninety or so. Yeah, we played...

...him just singlehanded because of him. So, yeah, I played against you guys in a practice match because I was in different area, and I'm pretty sure he hit about sixty in the rain, like it was pouring, and you just like was I was a stupid day. Yeah, like we played in the absolute pouring rain. I'm show me here about sixty. Yes, yeah, and then stumped me. I dropped the cash that day shortly. Wi could. Yeah, but it was from more of you. Or maybe it was like starsh run. Yeah, yeah, or you. I don't think it was me, though. I remember you about it. Okay, I think, didn't you? Is that that game? Yeah, your bowls rubbish, I'm pretty sure. Yeah, probably, like I remember, you guys had like no paceballs. Yeah, I think we didn't let any of our paceballs ball because of the rain. Yeah, it's like slipper house because it was infer yeah. Yeah, so he's absolute superstar the game. One of my hearts when he remembered my name twelve months later an indoor cricket I was filling dates team he was playing. Any knew my name, so I was pretty happy that one. But yeah, now he's gone to some big things. Hopefully. He had a bit of a lean season last year, so hopefully this upcoming season he can bounce back. I don't think you made too many runs of Carlton. I think he played shield at all. So hopefully you can have a successful year this one. He got another contract announced today, so well done to it las. They luckily throw him coaches contract doesn't come through. You yeah, he contracts good of a robbery. It's funny how, though, like, obviously he was a superstar, so the Chitter chatter about how good he was wasn't lying. But it's just funny how those little Chinese whispers happened in junior cricket. Yeah, Zach it's got flocked a one thirty eight or something, when he's a fast already. He he actually got announced today. He has a full contract for Victoria. But yeah, let's be honest. No, twelve drol can physically bowl a hundred thirty eight clicks or whatever. I just remember cal Alvin's just absolutely shirking that day, battened boys, I'm not in it. Retire when he called. Yeah, he retired. Had after one. He copped on on the thive pad. Was that? Yeah, I mean out boys stories about that day. Yeah, I remind you about it every time, I say. But yeah, it's funny how fear is such a big thing in cricket. Like we played the practice game against AC Evans, and this was only recently, so it's quite embarrassing, but I run out to bath, he was bowling. I had my inners in my pocket, didn't put them on. So I just batted with inners in my pocket and I just wore my gloves and I haven't worn gloves without inner since I was like an other twelve, like that's how scared I was. Way, why with the inner in your pocket, like just pretty texture, all right, and man like. I was waiting to go into bat. So when there's going to be a wicket, I just planned to take the INN is out of my pocket, put them in on and then my gloves, which I've never done before my life. So I don't really know. I was obviously not thinking straight. UHHH, another but you shared others. Yeah, yeah, pretty much another funny memory I have of like players being scared of stuff in like under s Wi will, under four cheens will playing Mattsafara to during yeah, I've heard, yeah, yeah, he's it was like this pretty big guy who was like really mostly that the ball. Yeah, and my coach, he was pretty loose, like he was. He's like pack of a smoke. He was like fbombs to fourteen year old. Is Good coach. He like rounded us in. He's like what everything he said, because they're quite a few swear words and a few derondatory terms, but he was like basically just a looping us off for being like afraid, and we're saying all we have to do is like bowls thumps and we'll get this like fat efing, like wog out. He was feeling loose from him. But yeah, that was that's the kind of stuff that goes on a junior crooked with like the Chinese whispers. And how mean, how many did he hit? How many do you hear on that a yeah, we got him out very quick, like first over something. I'm real. Yeah, I want my number one first, because I'll let you guys still in the show after me my number one. That was there part of that UK net to all we mentioned. This is a selfish one. Now this is a good day point out all yours have been very team on to actually pilch yours of self, and now my third one. I Hay the rum was manly, because not great. So this is this is selfish. But I was a very late bloomer in terms of score. My first fifty in cricket I was very rustill. Am I'm pretty small, I'm pretty thin, so I struggle to score. Run was fast and just score a lot of runs. As I was mentioning earlier, I'd make a lot of s and S. I think I made thirty eight four times or thirty nine...

...four times. Why even made forty? So like it was just a matter of a lack of had a lack of life. I could about it for days. When I was younger I was very mentally strong, but we only played like forty overs or whatever, so I often ran out of balls. But so I think it was I was sixteen or something there in the UK. To a fifteen at this point, pretty much everyone and scored their first fifty. It was pretty stand I think, rrific. Shout out to the great man. I think he was only one, along with me, who had the scored to fifty. I know rob strong. He was in a similar boat. I don't think he scored a fifty till later on, but I think he'd scored one of this point. So we were playing in this beautiful town, like this beautiful school in this small town was called Sedbroock College. I was my dad had flown over to join us on the UK tour. He joined us for like a week and my the coaches knew that my dad was coming, so they purposely had for a couple games. Be and my older brother. We batted low down the order and then, because they knew my dad was coming to this game, they let us both open together. So that was pretty special in the first place, opening with lucky and the fact that my dad was there, like on the other side of the world, I was pretty cool. And then the school is just so beautiful. Like there's this like bountain kind of in the background. Yeah, and like in the English like you think about like driving to English country side. Yeah, I's singles. Yeah, there's all these sheep on the hills and yeah, pretty cool. Yeah, it look like, I don't know the specific names, but it looked like kind of something New Zealand grounds, you see. Yeah, they're just like in small little towns. Now magnate like this. Yes, stuff like that. Like the school was the backdrop on one side and then the mountain was the backdrop and that. But said, there was like sheep all over the mountains stuff. So it was it was picture of books. And then I scored my first so those those three elements combined and made for my favorite sporting moment. It was like a big frustration of mine that I hadn't scored a fifty because like that was kind of did you raise it? Holding me back? Yeah, of course I'm off cool, but elmond off like punching run thing. There nine none of that. He just put it, just pumped like Davy Warner. Well, they didn't do it like the jump thing by like I remember chucked one of these in as I was running the single. Also, fun fact, I didn't hit a single boundary that day. The boundaries were huge. Yeah, on one side it was like forty meters, the other side was like a hundred and every time I'd middle one it was out to the hundred sides. I remember me and cal Elvin's we put on like a hundred partnership or something, and I think we ran a couple of fours. Would corporate. That wasn't he got out like third over trying it. He got bol by full toss. I hit it for see. You can see the photos online that it looks pretty. It's kind of bringing back memories. Yeah, it's it was just awesome day. That was a bit frustrating batting with block because he is a frustrating cricketer, like one of the more talented people I know, but just a bit bit of an idiot. So yeah, I was like trying to calm and down in between overs. But then eventually he got out. But then it kind of like my stress like gone, like I didn't have to worry about him. And then where me and caw just got to work. He scored seventy, I think, and I scored like fifty eight or something like that, and I've only been fifty two actually, because I remember as soon as I got the fifty I just didn't care anymore. I've I was Knackid, so I tried to play like a ramp shot. I just got bold, but I was kind of happy about it because I was I couldn't run anymore. I was tired and I run man in the match, which is an absolute robbery because card schooled by twenty five four runs, but I'll take it. I remember the Captain Speech of why I got it. He said I never look like getting out, so appreciate that to wherever that fellows these days. Yeah, I don't think cal was very happy about it and and I was just a beautiful day days play. But yeah, it was very it was a great moment to finally score a fifty and Dads like my dad. They're my brother there. Yeah, myself there, all these things, just us all. They just that up. That was like the first time I went off the field on the UK tour. Fun fact, because, what do you mean? I batted quite the third last over. So because we had like fourteen players, I started off. But normally, because I love fielding, I'm like on the whole time. Oh yeah, that's random point. But yeah, you took a catch that day, I think right. Did. All right, all, should like shortcover or short mid off or something. It's not quite a fifty, but you'll you've got a cat. Yeah, it was baits. We had like no bowls on the...

...tour. Everyone I was balling, I was calling off. He's you actually. Yeah, I pumped out of a couple squeakers. Yeah, especialist. You get into every day. This catches in the deep me. Do you remember that game out? I know what school was. We played that ten over game bright. But yeah, both teams made a hundred. I'm pretty sure. Like intent overs hit on the roof that day. Yeah, they have this bloke like here. You just hit like a couple on the roof, like probably seven, seventy eighty meters I reckon. Yeah, it was like an English under nineteen scrum half or something, and he was like this big guy. And Yeah, he's like he's actually technically a good cricketer, though. Yeah, and yes, hit's like calling us like for six. I remember that was cool. Yeah, yeah, that was an awesome trip, so many good namoration that. Maybe a podcast down the road just reliving it. Just the recap. Mate getting mcale on him. Yeah, our Urs, Roy was your number one. Well, this is a is a bit of a selfish one again, if I'm honest. Not Fair play, but are the boys? US three boards, US three. We rode in, we rolled into the Christine Synthetic ground at Mazenod college and we were just we were just banging it. We were just banging a few long shots. Oh my God, I think I know he's gonna say. Okay, I've picked up the I don't know if you boys remember this or not, but I picked up the nut on t col thing like the mycon. I picked up the nut on the Ur right wings, awesome sprinted up to the by line and I've sent a trads bullet across the by line about ninety miles an hour and it just was like if, in the laws of physics and the Lords of physics, have you said my cons goal at the mark? It was exactly except better. Be Glad, accept better, because it wasn't in an actual game. We just the key cart and it was closer to the goal, which actually extra better because, as last time, yeah, and there was no keeper. Yeah, completely along. The grand wouldn't leave the ground. However, moment in a kick around made you top three all time. Number One may make Matt Rayment's Hope One last sporting career cross any sports. It's probably better because we just went for FROCO's US so fast once again with the lads last yet spend nothing to do with the lads. Let's be real, mate. No, because I have to Brag. You got to brag about it, because for the next it was all about the key five years, because we're all there. We can't even deny it. That was all the other boys. It was all about the boys and the kick across the bar line into the far corner to find rules of physic's not not badman. Any questions as because any questions on that one. You just a business there, all right. So your top till just bizarre that's stiff on them gone. You go on the reverse the reverse order there, because the thing is surely the number two at the time wasn't actually that good. It's just better looking back on it, because you know what he's become. Yeah, let you try to tell me if ma just ended up being like a subeast cricketer or not your number two. Yeah, you're not wrong. You're not wrong. Mat in both both of these top two are just God be because he can bring about them. Yeah, now, but I respected. I respect a funny style called Chu Number One that I've gone with the IT's club cricket. This is your average club cricket. On the s grand final it was just an e league game. It was like all the Lads I've been playing with since I was maybe unders. We'd lost the grand final maybe two or three years in a row to like the same team and then finally last last year of Juniors they'd passed me the captain. C clearly the defining moment in that season. The then, even though half the time I was at Hayle were playing with Cork. I don't know what coach was thinking. Anyway, we get to the grand final and then I think we made a hundred and sixty odd. I got a couple runs and then it's just just just...

...a couple whatlnty, no like for you for you know. Come on, mate, just get mock came on, give yourself some prob didn't like sick five or six maybe. And then because all about, like all of our district players just left at like eight o'clock, eleven o'clock, they just had to leave. So I opened the batting hits and runs and then just left. So we have like six players to about the rest of the day. And then I ended up batting with the number nine for like, I know, twenty overs. Anyway, the bowling innings comes and we like they were like dominating and then we just took wickets at the end last over. They needed like eight runs and we just held them down. It was like a last over victory can tie everyone. Everyone sprints on the field, gets around each other. was just elite. That's unreal, man. I have to have to say it's probably hard for me and Pilch to relate because DDCA said the dead at all. District Cricket Association is very different to seeker. In what way? What do you mean? Well, for after playing at Dannyong and hearing people stories and stuff, everyone cares a lot more in DDCA. We just had like passionate yeah, it's like rivals around it all and all that stuff. Yeah, like everyone's from the club came down, like all the seniors came down. So there was like probably like two hundred, three hundred people there on the second day. And then, well, I remember drop to I dropped two catches of the same bloke. He end up making like forty something like and in on the second day, right, and then like he finally got out and they were like gone close to the victory. And then I and then I took a screamer like in like the fifth last over after dropping to absolute. So like they was sodas at short color that mid off. I think they'll both are met off. I'll me know that was sodas, like not just my luck. They've just spooned it straight to it. They just like feeling. They just whipped it straight at me and I just dropped us. Cannot handle mentally, I can't handle psychologically drop it in catch. Yeah, no, no, because the first the first one ruined me and then the second one. Yeah, I dropped to the day before I left for my UK holiday this year. One of them was like very hard, but the other I should have call and, like, I'm not kidding, it affected my mood the first like three days of the true I still thinking of it, like because I put say it like, I put a lot of pressure myself when it comes to cricket, especially in the field. So I cannot handle letting people down. Like I don't care if I get a dark that's I've done it to myself. But like, I just feel awful dropping catches. I hate the feeling. I haven't feeling very well because I never I put down every single catch that came by. I've dropped quite a few waging your career. Yeah, I'm like knowing to be a good field but I have to say I'm prone to a clanger, like, come on, that's not that is enough. That is a SAM ground fielding specialists. I supposed to like a catching so I've probably seen yourself like a night like five, less than five, catches in the time that I've known. I don't know what happened, though. My fielding last year just fell off cliff. Anyway, that's just him self reflection in the body rather. Yeah, as I was saying, there's just something like hearing some of the stories about the DDCA from the boys are down and all, like one guy he got into a fight in his grand final ended up getting the batsman in a headlock like that just put not happen reg regular occurrence. Man, regular happens every single match, but like that would just never ever happen at seek ever ever, like the the most controversial thing you'd get a seeker match would be like Im lipping off the coach for a son. Not Getting about. We have a some of the shitting seniors that you've seen them like. I'm talking fights every second week. Okay, people just come to cricket drunk. I I aggressive angry at their life. It's the best environment of Black Crood and like you need that sort. It does sound like the DDC a clubs, the juniors in the scene is or like one big club where. I don't know about you, Piach, but from what I think, a lot of the secret clubs, which are the clubs in like Bayside and southeast Melbourne, they're very distinct. Like it's only the last two years that our juniors and seenior is kind of become one club. Yeah, I feel like because all of the juniors are Buckley play seniors of Buckley. So the lads get around them, whereas I feel like a lot of you guys. I they go to private schools and club is like two or three round of sixteen s would gone and play seniors. That was it. Yeah, but they'll try to fix that. So we'll see. But that's that's that's pretty much...

...it. That's our top three, isn't it? Lads? Yeah, it is. So she should. Who should have reversed his mate? You're all right. Is back a harvey, the best sportsman, like the most famous person you've played sport with? Yeah, Jane Stevenson Rat. Oh, yeah, that probably takes the cake over maca Harvey to be on. Yeah, at the moment. Well, what about that? There's no chance he remembers me. Man, that was like half a season. Yeah, I think the kings will overtake Jane Stevenson, but at the moment probably Jane Stevenson. Yeah, has to get the knot over them, probably. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, and other kings banking. Fun fact that he's my first wickt in Melbourne cricket. Really Yeah, in the net they first match, and that's now first match for by Morris, just across the road over there. You Sandy, just by one down leg. He just flipped it straight to Lucky Jones, a square leg. was our buying row. Probably out of they you were like in it, out of that team though, because the final you were like thirteen man or whatever. You and crafty were twelve and thirteen. Yeah, now, but which back? That's just a piss. Yeah, I didn't even know you at that stage. ship, but US so random looking back, that we were legit played against each other. Basically my mom. I don't know if your parents are involved in this, for my parents always lip off the sandy parents, for like they carried on when they won, like they reckon. They carried on a bit too much for an under fourteen cricket match. But STARLE's been a salt bit of felt coming off the John the boat and just going a bit too roundy. Don't think my parents give a crap about bow marsh cricket. They're probably the opposite. Yeah, my dad just goes. My Dad just youngs at me if you get down, because I remember this distinctly. The parents, a few of them, they grabbed each other and formed their own celebratory huddle. But I think that's where the players lads. That wouldn't have been my parents. Yeah, probably the parents. Our parents were screaming that. They screamed at soccer. Yeah, like my is passionate, but she wouldn't get around the other parents. Yeah, like that's pretty weird. Yeah, good memories actually. Yeah, what what's what sounds like the best moment out of the very came out, I think the semi, the semi final sounds like the best line. Can the the one, the one where Queen scored the winner? Yeah, I'll tend to tend to agree. or The SWEZ SWEZ IT MAZENOD? Yeah, that's what's the Best Goal you've ever scored in soccer? All right, sorry, I forgot to answer that question. The most famous person, Louie Butler, just quietly. He's making his debut for the dogs. Played Arm. Well, that same Louis Butler. Yeah, I think. See, I played secul with yeah, I played on the played hatch with him. So maybe Nice, good. Right, I played soccer with him back in the duck. Didn't you play these older brother as well? Yeah, as soon as old brothers team. Yeah, well, done. Team made the amount of AFL players we know. It's actually so weird. Yeah, I mean, I guess, and every team like. I mean I guess it's what happens when you live in Victoria and got a private school. Yeah, right, what right, what was your question? What's the best guy you've going scored? I think I know. PILCH's falling off this corner. That volley off the corner. Yeah, that was a Banger. That was fun. That's me, all right. I've played right back and set of acting. So I was like twelve. So I know thought school could. Your Roma has a lot from fifteen back the halfway as the orange. All right, yeah, I was a that's not a goal. Like that's the cross. Yeah, that's listening. I tried to cross one in from halfway and it bounced in that at the fire pots. So like, I guess in terms of range it's a good goal, but like not inten. Yeah, that was your goal against sandy in the fit in our first match for the rays. Is Your Best Goal, even though across well, I'm still I'll still hide in holiding higher, God, but I have scored better ones. Which one like the other school then peached in the first game for out the race. He tried to cross one from the right wing and it just like whatever we want, Sam says, and I'll scored a corner as well. Oh, thus were the cheat, the chip against it. Carry Carrie...

...doesn't hang during a guide. They never used to put me on the field like you just yes, Eily. Yeah, he's bench us like fifty percent of Pato. It was Patto. Yeah, I know S was. That was that Baker Pat I was. No, Paddo was the assistant. Yeah, scored one in the seniors. I played one game in the seniors form the steam race and I scored on all and I scored a volumes, like my only game over playing. Yeah, for the same I got. Yeah, I played with Nos night, like one game. Oh, yeah, I remember. We didn't play to be now, you guys didn't pay things, just me not. I can't think of any good goals. Score most my just like one on them with the key per just like roll it past him. Event Clinics Clinical. Is that? Yeah, it's gonna say. My sister go ratios like student. I don't think I'll scored more than ten goals since I was like twelve, but then like not to get around myself, but probably like average in this sisty game in the wild. Turn it up, call we Trent, called, we tread. Yeah, so I don't know all. My best is I don't remember any of them. To be honest. I remember, I just remember the one. Isn't the cross to Quinn in that semi final enough, is it? Because it looked better? Because you like chested down and like scoresmately. He's Golden. That's actually a good point. This just probably always depends on the finish. So yeah, tough to the top of the child was still good. The thing is I don't actually know if I'd got it well that day for my fifty. Now I think you did. I think they of if you never look like in out with a good okay, it was a third. It was their thirds. Same thing because of exams. It was like only shit. Had like two or three from the seconds and the rest of their third. So that game that came at Marlboro probably the work, the worst I've ever battered. That I may like what that was. Claim was so good, but it Scott. They were so good and we sucked ice that. Did you score fifty eight? Like yeah, but I bet it was the worst. I come on. Do you remember all edges? Yeah, like I'm talking. Didn't middle one all day and I made like forty nine. I thought. You doing laps and I remember we got stuck at third man and we just could we just had to keep feeling the ball because it kept edging it or like kidding it late this lasting and stuff. And now you come a fifty is a pistol. That to all was baked. Everyone just read runs. Yeah, run, we'll just ate the water. And then every time we would do it, one of the top forward score fifty. Yeah, I'm pretty sure. I remember General Gamely and Work Mc master over the batting and he made like a coult on, like we put on like a hundred. He scored like eighty. Yeah, I remember held just pined everything that day and we wanted that wasn't a drawer or something? Last over, yeah, it was a draw, I think. Right. Yeah, Ti only got to run out on last ball, I think. Yeah, I think. I think I was off the field of the last time. He was like shortcover, short mid off, like right next to the stumps, and I just bought like my stand and half falling on off stump. They she straight to him and he just like just took a step and just under round that the pikes. But now that's probably about it for the conversation today. I forgot to shout out the youtube channel the start are they just started doing it, because otherwise it's just going to get doughy's and the youtube channel can be found through my instagram account and everything else. If you are if you are still listening, well done, well done. What we've been talking absolute trash. So it's been a Piss of though. Yeah, tell me that. I want to love editing this one. No one. More tell me anyone's understood what we've been saying, like we've explained them so poorly, but because we've all been at all them. Basically, yeah, true, right, I'm telling you that it's one made noice' when, but that is when Noah and we're Noah and Quinn that that day. I'm sorry. So no one's getting to distinguish the problems which are can only those two and maybe my brother would understand what the fuck is going on. Yeah, so, sorry about the poor explanations. Hopefully you just enjoyed the dynamic of the lads we have run. Will have to sorry, we've got some chemistry. Yeah, and I story like fair to say that's what what asks me to held the title. But anyway, cool, cool, cool, you and genuine perfect thinks go on in the Scot Cool. Some genuine perfect links. But I'm thankful listening. That's been all you say. Both of these lads in the...

...next couple episodes. I think the next like seven or eight. It features one of these guys every time. So yeah, if you if you're big fans, get away the next couple episodes. If you don't, you find another podcast. Thanks to listen. Thanks for joining me, Lads. Cheers, mate, right.
